I REALLY miss the prelaunch discussion that years past had, it really helped to get to know the books & advocates more

I agree... they really should add one episode at the beginning and designate that for a more detailed look at the books themselves. Every year one book is gone before any of us even get to hear anything significant about it. Yes, I know, CBC does post a lot of background info online and it can be found there... but in a similar fashion they could also just show the stanley cup finals while posting the results of all the other rounds online... and they don't do that. A five part CR would be much better than the four part version is.

Another great day of debate by panelists who really understand the process. Thank you.

I would like to see a version of "Canada Reads" in the United States of America. It would probably be on PBS.

I look forward to this debate every year, and once again, I am not disappointed. The panelists are doing a phenomenal job, and I can't wait to see what happens! 📚❤

I loved Greenwood so much and I really appreciate how Keegan has been presenting it. Mattea's criticism about Willow, Liam, and the conclusion were the issues I had with it as well, so it was interesting to hear that from her. The chapter on Harris and Everett's childhood had thrown me off as well, and I was glad to hear Michael talk about it. Overall a great panel!

Ah I'm sad to see Greenwood out, but I hope Keegan convinced some people to read it!

as a listener who has not read the books albeit familiar with them , i found from listening to this that all the discussion was about a family & any mention of an environmental collapse was missing ~
@prochey69
@prochey69 Год назад
@@colecolettecoleI'd say that it focuses heavily on the family aspect, but always in the perspective of our environmental crisis. I really can't think of a character or plot in the book that didn't relate back to the environment and, more specifically, the trees.

Micheal Greyeyes is brilliant. Everyone of these books wrote around his people. We don’t even see it. Greenwood possibly second least. I Interpreted the settler’s coments about the Mohawk family as illustration of how hateful she(?) was and how one takes themselves there.

Of all the choices of clips to play for Michael, I feel it was insensate to play that particular bit today

I'm coming back to this video because I keep thinking about what Michael said about Ducks, and I think it was very rude and inappropriate. I feel sorry that Kate Beaton heard this kind of victim blaming from someone on this program.

@@horsie371it was about 39 minutes in, he said that Kate knew what she was getting into when going to that job. After what she went through there I don't know how one can say that she should have known better.
@CMMviolin

He was talking about the decision to earn money by extracting resources and disregarding the environmental impact of that. Yes, he would have been better off to explicitly separate his environmental argument from the horrific sexual predation experienced by Kate, but he was not victim blaming.
@prochey69
@prochey69 Год назад
@@CMMviolinhe might not have meant it that way but as someone who has been assaulted in a similar setting, it hurt to hear and I think he should have put more thought into what he was saying.
