While the fabled northwest passage was long a dream for early explorers, the continued reduction in Arctic sea ice has caused this dream to become a reality.

Great video. As a Canadian, there is great potential but also great risks when using the Northwest passage. I do think regardless Canada needs to be prepared come what may by investing in proper infrastructure in the North including deep-water ports, Navy and Coast Guard bases and upgraded airports... I think with the advent of nuclear and hydrogen-based cargo shipping these types of vehicles are perfect for the North in that they aren't adding PM 2.5 to an environment already melting faster than anywhere else due to this stuff and its albedo effect on the ice pack... And yes tourism. I just watched the full documentary on the Crystal Serenity ship and its voyage through the passage and I was totally jealous of how cool the experience is, pun definitely intended!

Santa Claus is Canadian. He is bound by the decisions of the Parliament of Canada.

You gave credit to the Norvegian Amundsen. You did not give credit to the Finn Nordenskiöld, first navigating the NE passage. Shame on you. Ps else this is a nice video.

That was so well done. Subscribed. I wonder if Inuit tribesmen will become billionaire land developers and shipping magnates?

The Bosporus is considered international waterways but not for long. As soon as Turkey builds its Thrace/Istanbul Canal Turkey will quit the Treaty of Lausanne and the Bosporus will become fully integrated into Turkish territorial waters leaving Turkey independent in choosing which ships of what country they will let thru its waterways for what price. What is your opinion? 🇹🇷

Interesting for sure. Perhaps an idea for a future video.

I don't think a state can close an international waterway under international law.

Russia's Northern Sea route will make this unviable.

If you look up the forecasts of 15 years ago it’s supposed to be already ice free, how’s that going?
@joer8854
@joer8854 9 дней назад
What they said has actually been happening faster than estimated. They didn't say it would be ice free. The passage was usually solid ice for most of the year. Now it's never really solid ice. It's warming 4x faster than anywhere else on the globe. While good in this particular interest it's not good overall.

But first you need a new President in Kanada. And get your act together with your native people.
