Are you just pissy cause of the clickbait title?? You need to chill. Vancouver isn't the only area flooding right now. It's surrounded by the entire lower mainland which is like 20 other cities that all lead into a valley which has a HUGE part of the region's agriculture. Approximately 10% of the country's population lives in that region alone, so yeh. It's a pretty good chunk of Canada's population being impacted right now.

This video was reporting on and displaying the condition in Vancouver and we know other areas are affected because most of us are following the weather and looking for reports just like this because we care. I learned from actual meteorologists "Atmospheric River" was a name concocted by Environment and Climate Change Canada for the fall 2021 storms that caused floods in BC. I was reporting this in government at the time and unknowingly spread this climate change propaganda term to the different officials and ministers who didn't at the time know what it was either. Municipality needs to stop issuing building permits in flood plains No different from Manitoba red river valley
@polishtheday
@polishtheday 11 часов назад
Agree. But it’s mostly too late because these areas are already built up. The entire city of Richmond is a floodplain. There are homes built up on mountainsides that are just as prone to flooding. And residential and commercial areas built on landfill. I used to live there. Before buying a condo, I consulted geological maps so I knew the soil type and made sure it was well above sea level. While doing the research, I discovered a river had once run along what was now the back alley. If it hadn’t been almost at the top of a hill I would have been concerned.
@theunaccompaniedsenior
@theunaccompaniedsenior 11 часов назад
And taxpayers need to stop bailing out losers who make bad life decisions, like building or buying a house on a floodplain (or in a fire zone).
@polishtheday
@polishtheday 10 часов назад
@@theunaccompaniedsenior That would be almost all of Richmond, Steveston, Delta with houses and condo towers, occupied I’d guess by a couple of million people. They can’t all be losers. It was mostly farmland in the 1960s and 1970s, good rich soil because it was a delta. Quite a few farmers made money selling the land to developers. I know this for a fact because I heard it from the mouth of my cousin’s father-in-law at the time, who was one of them. If I remember correctly, he had a friend in the Socred (Social Credit, ancestor of the B.C. Liberals, then Conservatives. The corruption goes way back.) cabinet. Over the years the land around the airport was developed. The greenhouses and vegetable farms left as the land became more expensive, so expensive that no one could afford a piece of farmland now in the middle of the city of Richmond that was still in the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR). Kwantlan College was built there because of a loophole allowing golf courses and educational institutions on ALR land. Then came the condo towers. A lot of people who live in these towers or bought condos in them as investments have no idea that they’re on a floodplain, some of which is below sea level. In addition to the dykes that will have to be reinforced to hold back water if the sea level rises, it’s one area in the Lower Mainland susceptible to damage during an earthquake because of soil liquefaction. Damage could be similar to that in the Marina district in San Francisco earthquake in 1989 with fires caused by ruptured gas lines. I saw the ensuing chaos live on TV. Don’t know if many Richmond residents have. This weekend’s damage though was mainly up the sides of or in the valleys of the mountains where water normally flows through the creeks. That’s the part of the Vancouver Metropolitan Area that towers above the delta. There was just too much water all at once. There aren’t enough places to relocate the population of Vancouver to where there isn’t some risk of disaster, including floods and earthquakes. Forest fires near the city are still rare because it rains a lot. The space to expand is limited because of the ocean, mountains and U.S. border. That’s one reason why the city is building up, erecting forty storey towers. Some have a choice of where to live, but others do not. More people these days are renting and choosing a location based on what they can afford.

Most of these videos is situated in North Vancouver British Columbia. It's on the north shore when the clouds hit the mountain they dump all the rain. We lived there 15 years and saw lots of storms. The thing about these videos is that we have 3 ski mountains on the north shore and each is over 3000 feet. Take 180 mm of rain over the 3 mountains and where is the water going to go. Down hill. It doesn't help in West Vancouver they have elevated trail tracks which helps keep the water from going into the ocean. Over development and not enough streams to take the water from the mountain to the ocean. They have been replaced by concrete colverts. That's what you see in deep Cove. 4 or 6 million dollar homes full of water. In Burnaby where you see the car floating in the water use to be a wet land when I was a child. Expensive development industrialization is what it is now.

Painful as the moment may be, there will be joy in the morning. Because it's just a test, also a preparation for what's coming ahead of us. So we must believe and have faith that our prayers will be answered promptly by our creator. Eventhough, it may seem painful to us right now, but we know that God is in control and He's bigger than the powerful storms that are raging before us. So we need to pause for a moment from chasing big dreams, in order to start acknowledging God. Otherwise, if He's not part our dreams., they will not be nothing else but nightmares. 😔 ❤

I was in Bellingham, WA. (for people unfamiliar with the area, Bellingham is not far from Vancouver, BC). The roads filled up and the storm drains overflowed. Oh Stop! Canada is Huge. Only the mainland on the west coast is getting heavy rain. Your "atmospheric rivers" caused by "climate change" is an over-the-top hyperbole for heavy rains. This channel is so disingenuous, and is that an A. I. announcer?

I remember experiencing this El Nino for the first time when I moved to Vancouver about 40 years ago and being shocked about the amount of rain. Houses where even sliding down mountain sides. Crazy.Too bad the city didn't do any drain clearing first.

The sky is falling! The sky is falling! This is normal rainfall for this area. The problem is that councils approve homes being built in flood zones without first installing adequate drainage systems. Tax payer money should stay inside of Canada to take care of its own citizens.

chillax its 150 mm of rain, not alot for vancouver, the issue is you must plan for population growth! A city like vancouver letting in how many a year? the number is insane & no more space fopr people to use water, not enough space, if someone says river or c,imwate change tell them to fo. I am so glad I left Vancouver, dr bonnie helped but what a blessing! That city is packed and its now a povershed shi* hole
