Kiitos fellow Finnish friend, I love Finnish hockey and Finland is beautiful. Mina rakastan Suomea (hope I said that correct haha) salute from Canada. I remember 2016 WJC when Finland-Canada played, also the final too, crazy games that year and had one of the best lines in WJC history, Puljujarvi-Aho-Laine. Kaapo Kakko late game winner in GMG 2019. Love it all.
I had to leave when the game was 3 - 1 US and the shots were lopsided in favor of the US. Came home to find this score! Amazing comeback, great win guys. We needed a win!
Unreal how good he is. McKenna and Hagens look generational easy. Crazy McKenna is THREE drafts away from being drafted. His last year of Juniors should be skipped (like Matthews) and he should play Pro in either Liga SHL or NLA. He could compete with “men” right now. Like Hagens. Edge to McKenna for sure.
....man what's going on in North Vancouver.... I DO wish Connor played juniors for one more year or I mean Chicago release him for the tournament but whatever we shall see.... maybe the ducks wont get screwed this time
Man, I'll take that with a grain of salt.. recalling how good Bedard was at the U18's, and how he was afforded exceptional status in the WHL draft... Never mind him tearing thru the U20 World Juniors, and breaking Dale McCourt's team Canada scoring record at 17. If Gavin winds up being as good as Bedard, never mind better, that would really be something... But I'll believe it when I see good evidence for it... NOT BEFORE... The kid's gonna have to show me a helluva lot more... PEACE OUT
@@edward9 As I'm sure you know, Matthews played in the top Swiss League (A League is it?) at 17... If memory serves, there were mitigating circumstances at work here... Though I can't recall what?
I love the "in your face" song selection after the final buzzer. New Orleans is sinking, was the chef's kiss on top of an emotional come from behind win.
@RUPE88 what international hockey have you been watching lately? Hitting where head is first point of contact is automatic. Canada's been on the wrong side of plenty of those calls in the U20 lately.
Got to remember that these are just young kids. USA Hockey has tried to complete move away from checking at young ages, so I'm not surprised that the kid put in this check. Should have taken an angle. Would have been safer.
@@OmegaX907 oh for sure, these young kids get the better of themselves. It's a valuable lesson, not to take major penalties in the gold medal game against Canada lol especially when you're leading
Thank you once again for the video (without giving the score). I'm not from Calgary, but I really hope either Tij Iginla, his brother Joe, or both of them end up with the Flames.
While the US NTDP guys have a distinct advantage, with our boyz only getting one glorified meet and greet practice before flying overseas. plus our top U18s aren't usually available due to CHL playoffs... Plus, if an underage kid has already made our U20 team, Team Canada rules prohibit him from playing in an U18 tourney... Still, let's face the facts... US NTDP or no NTDP, Yanks have given as good as they've gotten vs Canada, in recent years, at the U20 World Juniors... Although you could make the argument that US college guys tend to enter NHL later... Meaning Team Canada is usually missing more of our top u20 guys, due to NHL cradle robbing... Still, let's give those Yankee kids and USAHockey credit where credit is due... BEST ON BEST (albeit technically only possible during an NHL lockout) our top Juniors are FAR FROM UNBEATABLE, especially vs Yanks...
All of Canada are just like Toronto fans, full of excuses. You never get beat, there is ALWAYS an excuse. I understand that it’s all you have but come on ?!?!
@@warriorcats60 Hmmm... Canada 20 World Jr Gold Medals to Yanks, what six? Women's Hockey, Canada 5 Olympic gold medals to USA's 2... Hockey's Canada Cup/World Cup of Hockey victories? All but one (1996) went to Team Canada... xxx EDIT: WHOOPS, I forgot that friggen fiasco that was the 1981 Canada Cup (Must have blocked it out LOL), with Canada LOSING vs CCCP, in the final... Believe it or not, that was a pretty good version of Team Canada, on paper... Beat the Russians 7-3 in the round robin... Top line was Gilbert Perreault (sp?), Gretzky and Guy Lafleur, if I recall correctly...Not to make excuses MUCH... But Perreault getting hurt mid tourney, and out for the duration, was devastating... Again, if I recall correctly, Team Canada out-shot the Russians by a wide margin, in the first period of the final... FOR SURE, CANADA'S DARKEST MOMENT IN BEST ON BEST COMPETITION... But then Mike Liut... Oh MY, MIKE LIUT?! xxx Men's Hockey World Championships... I'm gonna just guess here and say Canada has won Gold about 24 times vs, I dunno, maybe 3 or 4 bronze medals and 1 gold for USA (Squaw Valley 1960 , since OG Hockey gold used to count as a defacto World Championship victory). How many Yanks are in the top ten of NHL's all time scoring list? Again, I'm just gonna guess and say NONE...Wait, what about Brett Hull? Born in Ontario, but OK we'll give you that one... Suffice to say that, when it comes to international hockey historically, team USA is, at best, CANADA-lite...AND THAT'S BEING KIND... As for the rest? Didn't Team Canada beat the US at the most recent men' s basketball world championships? Didn't they beat team USA during soccer World Cup qualification? Didn't our women's team beat the US en route to claiming Olympic soccer gold? IT HAPPENS...
Great game!! Amazing perseverance by our Canadian squad to not give up! How costly was that 5min major for the US?! Jarome Iginla (one of my all-time favourite players) must be over the moon proud papa at his son, Tij's, performance!! McKenna is going to be a name to keep an eye on! What a game!! Congrats Canada on the Gold!!
Thank You Team Canada ! you made us PROUD ! .What a Great GAME . I must say as a Calgarian it will be nice to hear the Name Iginla spoken in the NHL again. 🏒🤠 🥅
Next "extended highlight" we only need to see 1 slow-motion replay & less celebration. Was hoping for more game play.. Easily could have been an 8 minute video
indeed, and Team USA plays together as a team ALL year!. Imagine if Team Canada played and trained as a team. IT wouldn't have even been close. And most of Canada's best players can't play in this tournament because of the CHL playoffs!
So, as a proud Canadian, I have to say that I feel the USA team was better than us 5-on-5. They have a great team there. A lack of discipline in the third cost them this whole game. No-where is it written that life is fair. Great game USA. Congrats Canada!
Love it! Great game boys. Unbelievable goaltending and team work. Thanks for trying to be dirty/classless and going for the head rather than the body and taking FIVE America. I hope you learned something because it cost you the Tournament and they say "one play never costs you a game', well that one cost you everything ;-)
That was a weird reaction by Stiga at the start when he got hit. He didn't prepare himself for getting hit, It's like he thought he could just skate through Elick's body. Marrelli should have stayed in front of the net on USA's 3rd goal instead of going to the boards for the hit. Really impressive game and chemistry from Iginla and McKenna. Carter George made some really great saves.
without a Russian team in the tourney, the victory is somewhat hollow. USA played strong, but made a huge error, and are always sore losers. Canada is always strong, but could be dominant if they could play together for a year or two prior.
Russia has not won a gold at this event since 2007 so idk what youre on about. They arent relevant and should stop trying to subjugate their neighbours.
@@dw4867the US literally had no shots in the 3rd period for a while and were outshot 12-0. Its almost like you have to play a full 60 minutes and not take dumb penalties to win! Maybe the US should kill penalties properly, the Canadians had no problem killing a major penalty in crunch time against Sweden! *shrugs*
U.S was short handed 11 minutes in the game, Canada was short 8 minutes. The U.S. did not get a shot on net in the 3rd till about 12 minutes in. The Canadian power play out match the U.S. power play,(not handed to them) the Canadian penalty kill out matched the U. S. Penalty kill. (Not handed to them)
I hope Connelly packed his stuff and left the arena before the rest of his team, because he single handily lost the game for USA, it was absolutely a dirty hit in any hockey league, and Canada was outmatched in this game.
U.S.A. was short handed 11 minutes Canada was short handed 8 minutes. The U.S.A. did not get a shot on net in the 3rd period till about 12 minutes in.The Canadian power play out matched the U.S. power play. The Canadian penalty kill out matched the U.S. penalty kill. Canada out scored U.S. 6-4.
You don't know what the penalty is??? That guy left his leg out extended so that he would trip over. That could have caused a serious injury to a young player with a bright future at a very critical juncture of his career. What an idiotic commentator.
If he were Russian he would be chained to a rock in a cave in Siberia and given a pick axe to chip ice. In the States he will be sent to a WOKE University and forced to accept that there are 756 genders and will likely transition to a "woman" so he can actually play against people that he can compete with.
The penalty against CONNELLY was charging at worst. And principal point of contact was (mostly) not the head. And Canadian player had his head down. And was bent over. One of the worst, totally game changing calls I’ve seen in many many years Game was over at that point To NOT call the hit that sent STIGA spinning a 5 minute major makes think they famoured Canada 🇨🇦 Very disappointing to have game decided this way.
@@jflessard9850 true true. But post hockey people would say the calls with both should’ve been majors or both hockey plays. Not one is a major and one isn’t. That was nuts
Your country is in denial! This was another Showcase of your dwindling program😂 The only reason you won was that 5-minute major. Team USA dominated Team Canada in every metric.
They did (shots were 31-11 at one point) but that's why you don't take a 5 minute major. But even with a 5 minute major, the U.S. PK had only given up 1 goal on 25 opposition powerplay opportunities entering this game. When you do that only to then give up 3 powerplay goals in 4 minutes in the biggest game of the tournament, that's on you.
The U.S. was short handed 11 minutes ,Canada was short 8 minutes. The Canadian power play outplayed the US. power play. The Canadian penalty kill outplayed the U.S. penalty kill. The U.S did not get a shot on net in the 3rd period till about 12 minutes in. Canada was coming on and outplaying the U.S. in the 3rd for sure.
