This video -- in conjunction with my 'how to' video here: • Canadee-i-o by Nic Jon... -- is intended to shed light on Nic Jones' arrangement of Canadee-i-o, and is something I've chosen to post online as a guitar teacher as well as a Nic Jones enthusiast.
In contrast, as an artist I perform my own material as well as my own versions of traditional songs. As such, I don't play Nic's arrangements at my own gigs. You can find videos of many of my own songs among my uploaded videos.

This is staggeringly good. I'm a relatively new comer to Nic Jones but utterly hooked and never expected to find such a fantastic cover of Canadee-i-o on RU-vid - vocals are the icing on the cake here. Thanks for recording.

Wonderful. This takes me back to the early 80s when I ran the university folk club in Brum. We ran the club in the PIG hut (Post Graduate Centre) which was a wooden hut and very atmospheric and intimate. Nic was one of the guests we had. He was just amazing in that setting. Great to hear this song live again after all these years.

Great piece, and a beautiful rendition. I've always loved this style of playing and song, seeing people such as Martin Carthy and Dave Burland in my youth, so it's great to see the tradition continue.

I know, it's sickening, I've been a fan of Sam's playing for some years now. But, after watching the tutorial video, I feel inspired to work harder. I've now ordered myself some thumb picks, having never used them in twenty years of playing guitar! Never too late to try something new :)

Beautiful performance Sam, I loved it. Your technique let's you lift out the tune above the backing in a way I never could. I'm just discovering Nic Jones after playing for 40+yrs. Thanks to your clarity I now have a tab for this number. Please keep posting your own versions of songs and tutorials. You've already helped me get to grips with aspects of this style of playing which is new to me. You may get occasional nitpicking criticism but the silent majority will enjoy it immensely. Thanks.

Wow! Where have you been all my life. I learned this tune off the record too, about 15 years ago. My version never sounded quite right but I am not the guitarist you are (I have posted my version too). The tutorial is great too. I am going out to get a thumb pick and learn it the 'proper way'. Nic's work has found new life. Thank you!

Great work exhibiting the unique aspects of Nic Jones style. I especially appreciate the explanation of the 'string flick' ...this is something I started doing virtually unconsciously after being inspired by the likes of Bert Jansch and others. Since I am a ex-pat Brit living in Canada, I have a special liking for this song. Keep up the great work!
