Welcome back to another Trackside Adventure.
In this video, we will follow the iconic CP 2816, a Hudson Class Steam Locomotive, as it thunders along CPKC's Leduc Subdivision between Edmonton and Red Deer. For the last several months, the Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railway has been conducting test runs with this locomotive in preparation for the upcoming Final Spike Anniversary Steam Tour, which is expected to kick off on April 24, 2024.
We invite you to follow on this fast-paced chase, and we hope you enjoy the video just as much as we enjoyed filming it.

Yeah it’s a shame they are streamlining the trip down to Mexico! Completely understandable tho, given the locomotives age! Would have loved to see it running through the Fraser and Thompson canyons!

#CP2816 is in fine form... a great test run for the only operating standard gauge Hudson in the world today (I said that because for years, the Kyoto Railway Museum has the honor of having the only operating Hudson in the world, JNR C62 class C62 2).

I’m not exactly sure but it’s most likely a rescue engine incase they have problems with the 2816. Also helps it along the steamer grades

Yea cuz mexico have some lots of grades in the mountains and cp 2816 have to pass the mountains first before she can clear away to Mexico city

how are you tracking when it leaves? the tracker on their site doesnt say anything about departure times.

Honestly. I just winged it from the start of every trip when I followed this train. Usually started with an early morning, long drive… and drove until I came across it.

I can’t be the only one who has been thinking this and call me a racist if you want but hopefully it survives it’s stay in Mexico without getting vandalized
