Canada has a separatist movement. Some of them have formed a legal political party in our federal government. Since their inception they have failed to separate Quebec from the rest of Canada. Very interesting. The governing party in Canada is kept in power by its association with the New Democratic Party (NDP) of Canada which has found great support among the Canadian Sikh community. The Liberal/NDP association combined, has less approval among Canadians than the Conservatives and next year we are having a federal election. I cannot avoid thinking that there is a political component in these arrests. Recently the RCMP issued a report stating that violence would breakout in the country after recent tax increases: it never happened, there is peace in Canada. I could not avoid then thinking that it was a political report because a few months earlier the government had used the Emergencies Act to squash protesters in Ottawa and a federal judge had stated that the use of such measures was not justified and the government washed its hands by saying that it had followed RCMP recommendations. If the RCMP becomes a political tool in Canada then "Serve and Protect" is at a different dimension and Sir Robert Peel's principles would not apply anymore.
