In this video, I answer one of the most pertinent questions I have received about IELTS for Canadian studies and permanent residency; I have also provided a list of some schools that do not require you to provide IELTS test results or any other English language results IF you are from an English-speaking country and have your transcripts to prove it.

I applied to Concordia University and I submitted IELTS general results, but they sent me an email stated that we do not accept IELTS general, you must submit academic module of IELTS. Is there any alternative or my application will be rejected?

Hello, yes. You may have to take the IELTS Academic test. The general test is used for immigration purposes mostly and schools do not accept it.

Hi This is Waruna from Sri Lanka, I have received an Unconditional offer from Canadian University which under Designated learning institutions list for a bachelor degree program with exemption of IELTS. The main reason is for that IELTS exemption is I have previously graduated from UK University and gained the required points. I have separate email confirmation also for this exemption other than unconditional offer. Also, I have worked overseas for seven years with exposed to the English nature and backgrounds. I can mentioned all these points in my SOP. In this circumstances, do you think are these points will be enough to obtain a student visa from IRCC or still do I require IELTS? When doing the visa loude, there is a specific application form that clearly asking the status of ELP test. Your early reply shall be highly appreciated

If the IRCC needs IELTS as part of your documents for a study permit and visa, then please take the IELTS Academic exam. If not, then you can apply without IELTS result. I think study permit requirements tend to be country-specific.

Hello Ayodamope, Yes. You would have to come as a student, then when you get into Canada, you can apply for a spousal visa for your spouse.

Hy.. your doing a fab job. Really appreciated the work. Im planing to apply for memorial uni. For winter intake. And i have completed my HND , Advance Diploma and Degree which is fully conducted in english. For my advance diploma i went to singapore to study. Which is english speaking country. And i already got the letters from those campuses that i studied. So my 1st equation is can i submit those documents to memorial uni to get the LOA without IELTS? And other question is if i get IELTS wave off. From the uni. Do i have to do the ielts for my student visa? Hoping for a rly. Thank you. 🥰

Hello, What I would suggest is to send an email to Memorial University admissions office or to the department you are applying to and ask them if they accept a written letter from the registrar of your school that attests that you conducted your studies completely in English. If they agree, then you can send the letter to Memorial University with your application. For study visa, I don’t think you need IELTS. the last time I checked, it wasn’t part of their checklist documents for application for a study permit. However, please double check with the Canada Visa Application Centre in Singapore (if there is one) to confirm whether you need it or not for visa processing.

Two things: you can check the exemption list of countries to see if Cameroon is on the list or you could send an email to the faculty informing them that you were taught entirely in English and ask if the IELTS requirement can be waived for you

I don’t think so. And you should argue your case with them if they ask you for it. You were taught in English and as long as English is your first language, you should not be spending money to take IELTS exam

Hi, If the school exempts you from IELTS requirement and grants you admission, you can apply for study visa and the IRCC will process your application and issue you a study visa and study permit. Hope I’ve answered your question?

Hello Ayodamope, HND is equivalent to a diploma. You will need a BSc degree in order to apply for Masters degree

Affordability depends on your financial capacity in the event that you don’t get a scholarship. You can do your masters. It’s all up to do to figure out how you can pay your tuition

Hello, vocational courses are usually offered in 2 or 3 year colleges in Canada. Some have special colleges, like culinary college for example.

You can send an email to the admissions office stating that you are from a country where the medium of instruction is English, the official language is English, and you studied in English, asking for a waiver from IELTS if possible.

I’m not certain of that because 16 is too young. Normally, they take applications from 18 years (which is the normal average age of a high school graduate). Some may accept 17 years. But I’m not so certain of 16 years

No, you do not. If your country is on the exemption list or if you can demonstrate your knowledge of English, schools will not require IELTS from you when you apply.

Hi, if possible, try sending an email to the department you wish to apply to at Carleton. I know they don’t have an IELTS exemption list but you can contact the department and explain that you were taught in English language during your entire undergraduate program and then wait for their response.
