“Aboot” is the go-to for Canadian cliches, but I’ve found “sore-ry” is far more universal amongst Canadians.
@doodleblockwell2610
@doodleblockwell2610 3 года назад
I have always heard it more as an [A-Boat] more than [A-Boot] I have also noticed the pronunciation of "tomorrow" as a good indicator. Canadian say to-MOR-ow rather than US to-MAR-ow. Also the propensity of Canadians to say PRO rather than PRA in words like Progress. It sounds odd, but probably more correct the Canadian way.

I have never made it to Montreal... I'm from Michigan, so I've enjoyed Canada quite a bit years ago. My Hockey buddies have told me it's on another level than Ontario Clubs....and that's saying something. I have a funny story almost 20 years ago now, me and a few guys where at a " adult club" on your side of the Soo. We meet some "Bikers" from Montreal, not going to name the Bike Club. They where having some problems with a rival from our side of the border and where worried we where part of that group... LOL, we are not small guys and are a rough crew! Once they figured out we are hockey players. They bought us some beers, and gave us some info on Montreal and where to go. Real nice guys. I told my Canadian buddy Steve who managed a bar in Sarnia years ago, he filled me in on who they were and the details.... pretty funny.

In the "laugh at yourself" category... Years ago, I had a co-worker who's daughter was in her 2nd year of college...at age 15. She was also the size of a 10-12 year old and had a terrible stutter, so she tended to communicate with a dry-erase board. One day the teacher asked a question and since it was a short answer, Vicki tried to answer verbally. Didn't go as well as she'd hoped, though the teacher waited patiently for her to get it out. One of the jocks in the class chuckled and taunted "d-d-d-d-duh!" That didn't go as he'd hoped either, the rest of the students looked at him like "WTF dude???" while Vicki looked down in humiliation. The teacher ordered him out of the class "until such time as you grow up. Now GO!!!" Then, addressing Vicki, he told her (as well as the rest of the class) "If you can't laugh at yourself, don't worry about it. There will never be a shortage of idiots willing to do it for you."
@marcpower4167
@marcpower4167 3 года назад
I had the reverse happen in high school, a bully with a stutter was causing trouble in class, I was always the quiet kid, I dont remember what he said, but I just blurted out: "Oh shut up ya stutterbox!" Everyone fell over laughing including the teacher. The bully wasn't impressed though, almost earned me an ass kicking after class.

Bless Vicki and her teacher. When I was in grade school, I had a friend who had what they used to refer to as a "lazy tongue" (please forgive me, I don't know the correct name for the challenge he was dealing with). He was shy and people sometimes tried to bully him. I was smaller than him and female, but I went after anyone who gave him crap. Guess who had an enormous growth spurt over the next few years, and became MY protector/big brother? Yep. Wherever you are, I miss you, Kevin!
