Canadiens Honour Guy Lafleur With Touching Pre-Game Ceremony 

Nobody in professional sports does ceremony and tributes like Montreal Canadiens.

The most emotional pre-game ceremony i've ever seen. RIP Lafleur.

Hearing the crowd cheer gave me chills. Nobody does ceremonies like the Montréal Canadiens

As a kid growing up in Pittsburgh in the 70's, we had the struggling Penguins. Maybe 6000 fans on a good night. We always made it a point to get to the games when the Montreal Canadiens visited. It goes without saying the Canadiens were the ultimate hockey team at the time, and it was actually artistic to watch. When you think of all of the legendary Canadiens' players of that era, Guy Lafleur stood out from the crowd. He was a combination of grace, speed, class and lethality. I will never forget seeing him play on many occasions, both in person and on television. Isn't it fitting this tribute took place when the Canadiens played the Boston Bruins? Two great historic franchises with a storied past. God Bless you Guy. God Bless the Canadiens.

i have carried the same Guy Lafleur hockey card in my wallet for over 40 years for good luck. he was and is my favourite hockey player ever.

It's been a bad week for the world of Hockey, first Mike Bossy then Guy Lafluer. Both were too young, I watched both in amazement as a teenager and gave up all other sports to concentrate on one, Ice Hockey. Thank you Guy, thank you Mike. Both were great ambassadors for the game and we're gentleman on and off the ice. RIP.

Any player could only dream of getting a 20 minute standing ovation like this. Absolutely insane and well deserved. Montreal fans are like no other sporting fans on this planet. As a Blue Jackets fan who isn’t even old enough to remember Rick Nash’s first seasons, this tribute hit me way harder than I expected it to. I have an appreciation for the greats of the game that I was not able to witness for myself, and Guy was one of those players. The fans just added onto the emotions after the tribute video. It’s clear how much he meant to the city and even to Canada as a whole.

Montreal fans are the greatest in the world. They know how to appreciate their heroes and icons over the years and pay tribute like no other. The longest most respectful standing ovation ever in sports. Guy was loved and idolized by Montreal fans of all ages. ❤ rip guy Lafleur.

I'm a Boston Bruins fan and I watched him growing up as a kid here in Boston. Definitely made me cry a few times as a Boston fan and hater of the Canadian's, but he was an amazing hockey player! RIP Guy

Was not a hockey fan as a kid because there was no team in Texas in the late 80s early 90s. But just before leaving home each morning for class during High School, I would watch Sportscenter. It was my only link to hockey. So I would watch highlights of guys like Brett Hull, Lemieux, Gretzky, and others. But one guy with no helmet and flowing but receding hairline that played for the Nordiques stood out. That was my introduction to Guy Lafleur. He was past his prime but he could still play and was one of the most graceful hockey players I've seen to this day.

The sheer length of this tribute is fantastic.

I don't care much for hockey today, but I remember that the day Lafleur first retired was one of the saddest days of my life. RIP, Guy.

It's telling that even teenagers in the audience were cheering. The legend of Lafleur made an impression on people that weren't even born when he was playing.

I grew up being a Leaf fan living in Toronto, but my dad and I would always watch the Montreal Canadiens in the 70’s when we got the chance to catch a game. Mr. Guy Lafleur was my favourite Montreal Canadien. I loved watching him fly down the right side of the ice. He did everything smoothly and with incredible efficiency. There was no one like Guy Lafleur. He was a class act and an incredible player. He was simply awesome. What a player and gentleman. My heart goes out to his family. He will never be forgotten. He is a legend forever. God bless Guy.

Growing up in western Canada as a young boy in the seventies, Guy was my hero. I wanted to make the NHL and play with him 😂 I was 9 on may 10,1979. I was crying after the 2nd period when Boston was leading 3-1. My parents told me Montreal would come back and win. When Guy scored that game tying goal… well its a moment I’ll never forget. Thanks Guy for all the memories, Rest In Peace.

Poetry on ice. Guy Lafleur was my mom idol growing up in Quebec city. They had the same age and Guy was dating my mom’s cousin so she had the chance to meet him a couple of times. Guy was a real gentleman she told me and he was beloved by all the city when he was playing for the Quebec Remparts. Now 75, my mom still talking about Guy with the same passion and you can see stars in her eyes whenever she talks about him and how gracious he was playing hockey, the best sport in the world! It also touches me to see that fans from great hockey city like Boston, New York, Chicago Detroit, Toronto and the rest of Canada have the same respect for Guy Lafleur, the hockey player, but also the real gentleman he was. Guy Guy Guy!

Although I’m no longer a Montreal Canadians fan or even a hockey fan this celebration takes me back to a time when it meant something to play for the Montreal Canadians. Guy LaFleur was a class act who played for a class organization. That goal that he scored against the Bruins in Game 7 to send it to overtime still gives me chills. Well done Montreal fans!!

As a kid growing up in Boston in the 70's, I first found my love for ice hockey and the NHL. As a rabid Bruins fan, I was all in on the rivalry between The Canadiens and the Bruins. Guy LaFleur was supposed to be the enemy, the bad guy but, I would watch time and again as Guy and the rest of the Canadiens would break my heart and make me say wait til next year...yet as much as I was supposed to hate the Canadiens, I admired them for their grace, speed and skill. Steve Shutt was one of my all time favorite players (sshhhhh don't tell anyone I said that lol). The images of seeing Guy racing up ice, hair flowing in the wind he generated and making a silky stick hanfle, deke and depositing the puck in the net was just a thrill and I am glad I got to see such an exemplary talent play! Rest in Peace Guy!

It have to be a French Canadian to understanding the true meaning of the canadiens de Montréal and is French legends . RIP ti-Guy.

I'm gutted.As a kid growing up in MTL ,whether it was street hockey or ice hockey everyone wanted to be Lafleur.We all had Lafleur shirts. my first time at Montreal forum i was 10 yrs old in 1978 MTL vs Boston which thev rivalry back then was insane,the only player i watched on the ice was Lafleur even without the puck or on the bench.he was every kids idol.i am so saddened by the news.Always and Forever #10 GUY LAFLEUR R.I.P.

This tribute just showed that actions worth so much more than just words. Thank You Mr. Lafleur for not only entertaining and dazzling us with your great Hockey prowess, but also as an ambassador to the Great "Les Canadiens", the game of Hockey on behalf the NHL, the province of Quebec and this great nation of Canada. Most of all, as a humanitarian and a great role model for all of us outside the game. We salute you from all of Quebec, Canada, and around the World. I come back to this video, well after a year since his passing. I still cry. I wasn’t alive during Mr.Lafleurs hay day, but I’ve watched constant replays and old games from his time, and analyzed his play in every aspect. I miss you Guy, taken too soon to a horrible sickness. I can still see that hair flowing, and that speed you carried with you everywhere you went on the ice. I wish I could’ve met you Le Demon Blonde, even just to say goodbye.

I am a Canucks fan, BUT I always had nothing but respect for Guy Lafleur. I have his autograph, and plan to get as many as I can. The day he is buried, I will use a Montreal Canadiens T-Shirt for Guy.... RIP kind SIR....

I played growing up and had his trading card. I remember staring at it and wanting to be just like him. What a Super Star!! Sad to know he is gone.

I was there. There has never been an outpouring of love like this or any other professional athlete. I had tears in my eyes and other grown men, some young some old, were crying. I am fortunate to have seen the great 1970's Canadian teams.

I have as a Leaf fan loved hockey all my life and seen many players come and go. LaFleur was right with the top for sure. Not just a great player but a great human being. I only wish he had played for the Leafs but that was never to be. lol. My condolences to his family.

I will forever cherish the day I met him at his restaurant on my birthday it was an honor for me what a great man and humble human being, we will never see another hockey player like him, I will miss him my idol and friend one of the greatest, the icon, the legend, Guy Lafleur rest in peace.

I was otherwise occupied and had not heard about Guy’s illness until shortly after Bossy died. Very sad week for Canada’s game. Guy and Bossy were excellent players. I have so many fond memories of their play.

He was my first favorite player in the 80s. Past his prime, but still flashes of brilliance. Travelled to a nordiques mtl playoff game in 1984. Habs won 2-1 with Lafleur assist. Saw him several times in Harrford which was an hour from my home. Will never forget a goal I wish was in RU-vid in the civic center. He roared up the ice, then abruptly stopped by the blue Line and ripped a slap shot right in the net making the goalie look stupid, and Guy all the more amazing. Best single memory for me on Lafleur.
