Watch as the New York Islanders honour hockey legend Mike Bossy with a touching tribute video before holding a moment of silence in memory of the Islander great.
My parents bought me my first road hockey net when I was 4 years old. It came with a poster of Mike Bossy that I had on my wall. Special place in my heart!
this one hurt...my first sports idol as a 6 year old in 1980 after my family arrived on long island...one of the most productive athletes ever in any sport when you compare years played to accomplishments.. RIP and thank you Mike
can't agree more ..... know it's 2 in 2 weeks for the hole family of hockey!! 2 snipers and gentleman's!! * nahhhhhh not a Leafs fan!!!😜 maybe this year....
I was at this game. My dad grew up in Long Beach NY. He was growing up as the Islanders were going through the struggles of being an expansion team and he was a teenager when the Islanders had their 1980’s dynasty. He wore #22 when he played deck hockey. He loved Bossy.
For me, Mike Bossy, similar to Bobby Orr, is one of hockey's most talented icons whose career was cut short, and also one of the most humble and gracious players around. As a Ranger fan raised to hate the Islanders, it was awfully hard not to be a huge fan of Mike Bossy. RIP
Without a doubt. I am a big Wayne Gretzky fan, and I honestly believe had Mike Bossy played another ten or so years Wayne would have been chasing him for the all time goal lead. Guaranteed Bossy would have had at least 8 more 50+ goal seasons. RIP Mike
@@PenguinGang25 It isn't a Joke. Guy Lafleur smoked at least one pack of cigarettes a day and he died from Lung Cancer too. Bossy and Lafleur should have made anti-smoking ads before they died. It would save lives by motivating people to quit and to prevent people from starting to smoke.
All fans and all management personnel of the teams that passed on Bossy in his draft year never stopped kicking themselves with regret. A nine-time 50 goal scorer he should have been the number one pick that year. As a hockey player he was a winner.
@@jeffmccoy1700 I thank God the Islanders got him. Not because I was an Isles fan (which I was). It was because it allowed him to flourish with Trottier and Gilles, and to win. Others may have scored more goals, but no one scored them like Mike Bossy.
Was about 7 or 8 when I started watching and loving hockey. Mike Bossy was my favourite player. Idolized him. My older brother and I playing road hockey would pretend to be Trottier and Bossy. RIP, sniper.
A great player on a great team. That islanders team is the early eighties was so fundamentally sound. They were a pleasure to watch. I would like to say thankyou to Mike, and thanks for all those wins. RIP
At 3:09:What an incredible picture with Gillies;Trottier and Bossy!I've always been a Mtl Canadien's fan and i remember so well the years that the Islanders start their domination."We are the Champions" was always playing when they won their Stanley Cup!Mike had that incredible sense of humour when he was in the media,a very smart guy. What a snipper! love you Mike!
My first NHL game was the Islanders vs the Jets in Dec.3 1982 in Winnipeg. Bossy was always a fav of mine and I begged my parents to take me to the Wpg Arena to see them
Went to the game tonight. While there were a lot of # 22 jerseys in attendance - much of the crowd was too young to have seen him play. He was fabulous. Lots of fans left Flowers at his plaque at the NYI Hall of Fame in the UBS Arena. So sad!
I was an big time Oilers fan growing up in Scarborough, ON during the 80’s. I’ll never forget meeting Mike Bossy at a Kmart while he was signing autographs promoting Titan hockey sticks. He was such a nice man. I had a soft spot for the Islanders after that day. RIP
Following legends Mario Lemieux and Wayne Gretzky for the most goals in 500 games played, that in itself, says it all. Among the purest of the snipers.
the humbleness and humility of mister bossy shows his incredible character and integrity when he could easily be the opposite as he was the greatest goal scorer the nhl has ever seen. The good die young.Thank you sir, mister bossy for everything you did for nassau county, long island the islanders and the nhl.
So many don't know what they missed, having never seen him play. He is still underrated, mostly by MSM. We who saw him know he IS the GOAT of goal scoring.
Only the good die young folks. Mike was a Hockey legend on and off the ice. He represented the sport as well as he possibly could, a fierce competitor and a gentleman. He will be greatly missed.
Rip Mike Bossy i grew up watching you thanks for all the great memories. You were my favorite player and you left us way too soon may God bless you and your family 🙏🏒🏆
Very classy for a classy guy. The hockey world had gained a Saint with Bossy now watching over the kids! RIP and condolences to his family and close friends.
Bossy's family held an open to the public service at a funeral home this past week in Ste Therese. Literally 15 minutes away from my home in Laval. I wish I had known. I would have gone to pay my respects.
Back in the day, my home team in Pittsburgh was usually blacked-out from local broadcasts. So I became an Islanders and Rangers fan courtesy of super station WOR. Bossey (and Trots)was a huge reason I became a life-long hockey fan. Amazing skills and a class act, a combination not always found together. Bossey was it with plenty to spare in both.
I am a Long Islander, a Rangers' fan and a hockey fanatic. This past week or so has been painful to watch due to the fact that hockey has lost two greats of the game: Bossy and LaFleur.
As a kid who grew up on Long Island during those dynasty years this year has been gut wrenching, from the team on the Ice to losing Clarke, Jean and now Mike, it’s just too much. R.I.P. Mike, you will be very missed.
I have been a lifelong rangers fan and always hated the islanders but i have nothing but love and respect for the great mike bossy. One of the best to ever do it!
One of my first sports idols as a kid. Deserves every bit to be mentioned along side New York area legends like Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, DiMaggio, Jeter, Taylor, Manning, Namath, Seaver, Messier, Erving, Reed, Ewing, etc.
That was very respectful. I never seen him playing cause I was a baby but he was so classy and a good man. He deserved all the tributes that he got. Rest in peace #22
I'm a Bruin's fan but I really enjoyed watching Mike play, even though he was killing my team some of the time.....lol. He could fill that net as good as anyone who ever played the game.
Loved Mike bossy great man great player if not for that back problem I believe if he could have played until age 40 he would have broken gretsky goal scoring record at his place he was at
I never saw him playing live, but with the goalscoring average and ability he had, without injuries, he would do stuff that we are seeing Ovechkin doing now. And IMHO, he would be the first NHL player to hit 1000 goals
Even as a Chicago Blackhawk fan , I place Mike Bossy in my top five favorite players of all time . He was hockey greatness . Rest in peace Mike , thanks for the memories .
I was a young hockey player in Michigan. My first recollection of the NHL was the Islanders winning the Stanley cup. The Red Wings were god awful. The Islanders were my favorite team to root for, and Mike was, is and always will be my favorite player. My heart goes out to his friends and family.
His best memories as an Islander was having 4 straight Stanley Cups for his team from 1980-83, and guess what. Back in '83, the Islanders swept the Oilers in the finals.
My Favorite...he scored all those guys in a division where it was more of a hard checking style of play compared to the west style open ice...and the team never got attention for what they did...they can play any style of hockey...check..fight....score...and were great at it...very special teams...RIP
RIP Sniper. The purest goal scorer ever. Thank you for the wonderful moments you put me watching you live on TV and at the Coliseum. It's seems my childhood memories are fading away. #22 forever
Well the difference is no winger ever accomplished 60 or more goals 5 times during a short time of his career. 9 years to be exact and during the nine years he had 60 goals three years in a row. The only player accomplished that peak was Wayne Gretzky
@@jeffreykaufmann2867 I'll tell ya buddy. I was alive to see Bossy play all of his years in the NHL. Phil Esposito scored 70+ goals one year & 60+ goals 3 seasons & many of his were called "garbage goals" as he stood in the slot taking a beating & knocked in rebounds for his goals. Bossy on the other hand was a "pure goal scorer" cuz he had the fastest snap shot & scored when taking one timer's from passes or on a rush. Almost zero rebound goals scored by Bossy. Boom!!! Now do ya get it mac??!!?? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phil_Esposito
@@gestet My dad told me about Esposito. He said Esposito got most of his goals by standing near the crease area and waiting for Bobbie Orr to give Him a pass. Scored his 76 Goals on 550 Shots. Gretzky 92 in only 327 Shots.
@@gestet I know Bossy had a great shot but I didn't find him an exciting player to watch. He couldn't do end to end rushes like Guy Lafleur or Paul Coffey.
If he where still here I would be saying thank you to him as a flames fan I don't like the islanders but when Mike boasts near that names me like them thank you Mike bossy
My favorite player of all, since I first saw him his rookie season. No one.....NO ONE could score goals like him. I started using eBay in 1998. Since day one, my eBay ID has been "bossy22islanders." My heart is broken. Only Pop's death broke it more. I pray to God that I will never forget Mike Bossy. The GOAT of goal scorers!
I've seen some sports fans getting alzheimer's and not forgetting their teams and great squads they've seen. Here's hope that you, me and every other fan do not forget our best moments as fans
