"A Smooth Sea Never Made a Skilled Sailor" You 're wize & I'm sure you know that old saying that applies to pilot as well 😄😄😄 And thanks for your most interesting Canard Boulevard RU-vids !!!
What was I thinking when I painted it red!!! You didn't even mention the black! So, this is what I was thinking when I designed this paintjob. The red and black paint is almost all on the cowlings, canopy and turtle deck above the passenger/baggage area. These are all non structural areas. The cowling temperatures exceed the heat generated by solar radiation energy from engine/exhaust temp and are routinely over 200 after a flight when the airplane is shut down. They are not foam core and can take it. A lot of the red and black is on vertical surfaces and not as prone to high temps from the sun. The wings and canard have only red and black accents in areas not over the spar . These areas don't get particularly hot. I did have a significant area of the black at the winglet/wing intersection that was getting warmer than I wanted so a modification is in the works. That's what I was thinking. It took two years and multiple iterations while refurbishing the entire airplane to strategically come up with a scheme that didn't compromise the structure of the airplane. Thanks for the compliments on the interior. I wanted state of the art avionics but also, as Jeremy Clarkson says, I wanted it to be "a nice place to sit." The Rutan airplanes are great looking machines but the interiors are often overlooked in my opinion. It was nice to meet you. I was somewhat disappointed that you cut your hair and I didn't get to poke fun at you for spending more on hair care products than my girlfriend. The oxygen concentrator video was great science. Thanks for doing that.
Yours is a truly beautiful airplane, and I was just stunned at the interior. It is a very nice place to be!! When I pulled up there and saw a Defiant, I thought "wow, they're serious about canards here..." I will grow my hair out again I suppose, for your benefit. :)
Hi Scott. If you can, come home sometime to Hamilton Ontario. Our museum has quite a display of war planes and even a flying Lancaster bomber. There are virtual and holographic displays as well.
I've been many times, although I've never seen the Lancaster fly. Last time I was there I was with my dad, we were looking at the Grumman Trackers they have, and my father (who was on the Bonaventure and worked on Trackers) kept correcting the guide. He told him, "pull the logs for this airplane, you'll see my name in there quite a lot a lot." :) They were trying to convince him to help in the restoration of the Trackers.
Excellent content! I recommend you fly the plane to the runway as a normal technique and not try to float it. It will make those gusty days less of a "plant" and will have the same result. That said, it is satisfying to have that wheel spin-up greaser of a landing.
Is that side sticks? That’s a goal for me. Dual side sticks w/comfy forearm rest, t-handle, center mount throttle lever and that’s about it. (Like the Defiant)
Please read 'Qwacks among ducks' -Des couacs chez les canards, in Homebuilt Aircraft and kitplanes. The Canard formula is not so marvelous as it can seem at first sight
It is what it is, no free lunch, everything is a compromise in life, so on engineering. I don't understand from where do you want to save a Cozy owner.
I don't catch tour response at all. My comment was just an Anti-Rutan quotation, he died after having made lots of money from a somehow hasty and nasty widespread love for the Canard arrangement
Hey Scott. Question regarding another video you've posted. You mentioned you have a power module you use to power up your avionics for maientance/troubleshooting. I have one on order. Can you tell me where you hooked the power into your plane. Do you need to unhook you battery etc. Thank you in advance and thank you for your videos, I've learned from you.
I got that ground power unit to test my alternator feed issue. So while there are other places where it could be inserted into your electrical system, what I did was to disconnect the alternator feed and insert it there. It emulates the alternator.
No, it would not. That autopilot utilizes trim tabs to move control surfaces. Canard aircraft typically do not have trim tabs. Trim is accomplished using internal springs.
