I met the funniest troop of tambays (guys who hang out on the street) on a Sunday and they invited me to come try their buddy's food the following day.
On arrival...I discovered that the restaurant owner wasn't there and they gave me the wrong time. So I went down the street to eat at another karinderia but I had the time wrong! Two strikes.
So we wander around the barangay talking with everyone we can in Tagalog trying to find a new place to eat.

I agree with you. pinoy culture with the sense of kapwa is such a strong characteristic of them. I lived in USA for 42 years and hardcore individualism is top priority. The jokes are difficult to keep up too coz it doesn’t make sense sometimes or it is merely lame for westerners but Pinoys are just mild in character and it is easier to make them smile regardless.

kuya Kurt, it's so amazing how the pure Filipino culture can relate to you!!! yes we do have a tight sense of kapwa tao or rather kapwa Pinoy sense...like me ,i'm married to a Japanese,we're living right now here in Osaka and whenever i see my kababayan (pinoy),my heart skips a bit and i lightened with so much happiness!!!😇😁😊🤩☺

Yesss. “Kapwa mentality” is big in our culture. In southern Cali, we’ve been advocating this as “BAYANIHAN” It’s my fave part about being Filipino. And my kids are absolutely absorbing this to their core. Gusto ko yung rhetoric mo about American individualism. This is the toughest for my kids to assimilate to. Very opposite ng pinoy culture…it can be a little confusing for them.

‘Don’t be too hard on yourself -your Tagalog is very good- need to work on some pronunciation because it does changes the meaning based on how it’s said. Appreciate your appreciation of the Filipino food and culture. I’ve been away too long now ( left in 1980 and only went home 2x) after having married a foreigner ( he said I’m actually the foreigner here in the US😊). My husband loves the Philippines and he’s excited to visit again - on our bucket list since we are retired! I enjoy your vlogs and keep up the good work👍

Speaking of Vice Ganda, fun fact kuya kurt. There's a popular slang language in the Philippines. And it's called Gay Lingo (gay language). Maybe that's why you're having a hard time understanding Vice Ganda, tho he mostly speaks tagalog, there are some words in gay lingo, i guess. Some, if not most, of the slang Filipino words came from Gay Lingo. So that's it, just to make your brain hurts more, or we could say, nosebleed LOL
