Highly metastatic cancers, vast majority are dead after just two years, but you'll still bleed your patients dry by playing on their guilt & love of their pets: exams, diagnostic tests, surgeries, chemo. You're no hero lady

Dr Sue, you're a stunning lady, the energy you bring certainly brightens the mood on a very dark subject for many pet owners. Would you have the same atmosphere with owners while breaking the news to them their pet is dying?

I have a 10yr old Weim that has Malignant Melanoma of the skin. The lesion has been removed. I’m guessing from everything I’ve read is this is still terminal even thou the tumor was removed. In our home we believe quality over quantity. He was a rescue and we have only had him for about a month, we did know that the tumor was probably cancer when we adopted him. He is just the sweetest dog we have ever had, breaks my heart, but we will love him til death.

My Scottish Terrier was dianosed with malignant digital melanoma at 9 years old. Vet offered melinoma shot after removing the toe on his back paw. I was told he would live less than two years maybe longer with a shot every month. I decided not to go with the shot. At the time of this comment my 16 year old dog is on my lap no cancer. Every year i bring him in for a well check my vet to be fair has a look of terror on his face because i remind him he told me he would be dead in two years. My question to the vet and to everyone is why in the world cant we take his blood and send it somewhere to figure out why he beat this cancer. My vet says he has no idea where he would send it. Scottish Terriers dont often make it to 16 years old because they die of cancer. LOCKERBIE is still here if anyone knows where i can send his blood for research on melinoma please let me know and i will send it.

Thanks for this! I just found a dark mole on my 8 year old schnauzer's noggin. Aspiration was unclear so we're scheduling surgery to remove it and biopsy it. As I understand it (partly from your video), (a) melanomas on the skin (on a hair-covered area) are infrequently malignant, and (b) the ones on hair-covered skin that are malignant are unlikely to spread. I'll be anxiously awaiting the results of the biopsy! Glad my groomer cut his hair a little shorter than normal so I was able to spot it!

I shave my giant schnauzer down and do clean feet (poodle feet) twice a year so I can keep an eye out for skin growths and changes to his toes. It's an excellent habit to get into to monitor your dog's health! Best of luck with your pup.

My 9yr old black lab/collie mix had a growth off the carpal pad for the last year that didn’t grow. The last 2 months it started getting bigger. Aspirate showed melenoma. Because of the recent rappid growth we chose to remove the entire carpal pad with good margins. Difficult healing time but doing good. So the results came back malignant with a very low 1 grade. We are now awaiting the shoulder lymph node results. The vet has a hard time finding info on this type of growth on a carpal pad with melanoma. Have you ever seen or heard about this?

At my clinic, we lay the pup on their side vs on their back. Do you find it easier to access the muscle having them in dorsal recumbency vs lateral? Do you give it both ways based on the patient?

I like them stable :) so they do not move and to prevent bruising. (I had once had a dog move and we had to repeat the injection and it is expensive!) I find the ultrasound trough helpful too. Hope that helps!

I'm having trouble understanding my dogs pathology report. Ki67 was 28? He was diagnosed with malignant melanoma. 7 year old goldendoodle. Had it removed and got excellent margins however it was around 2cm. I don't understand his survival chances by the ki67 number

Can you please tell if the pin prick cell test can be done with the dog fully awake or need to sedate the dog? What are the test can be done to diagnose the type of skin cancer on dog? Thank you.

Help doc. I have a question Can you please tell how long will the dog survive after splenectomies? We are here talking about age group from 6-7 year onwards not an emergency procedure with normal vitals...

You should definitely check out my 3 part series on splenic tumors and hemangiosarcoma. I had a quick question, we just had the digit removed and the mass biopsied and we found it was melanoma. We’re waiting to get in with the oncologist to start her in the vaccine is the vaccine something that should have been administered same day as the surgery? Our appointment isn’t for another month
