The Uber and Taxi dispute continues in Cancun, Mexico, and today we have inside information on how the cartel controlled (Sinaloa cartel possibly) in the Cancun area works, as described to me via my cab driver in downtown Cancun. He even explains how much his "tribute" is to the cartel.
Keep your wheels on the ground and post your thoughts.

Yup - it is like that all over Mexico. Ran into the same thing years ago when we spent winters in Zihua, Mexico. I experienced the same thing in Winnipeg, Manitoba back in the day regarding the tow truck drivers. Out of University, I had a friend who decided to buy a tow truck and run his own small business. That didn't last long because the Hell's Angels had control of the market, which was lucrative, because during snow events, hundred of cars were towed to make way for plowing, never mind the regular wreck towing, and cold weather towing, breakdowns, battery jumps etc. business. So they made it impossible for him to trade. With no other jobs available at the time, he sold up everything, house etc., packed up, and moved to Edmonton to work for Lafarge until he retired 10 years ago. So it's not just Mexico - it's Canada too.

And I remember the old days when white folks ran corner stores and drove taxis. LOL.

@@Linescrew1Canada That's right. I had a student digs apartment I shared with another student. No car, took the bus, and we stopped in at our corner store on a regular basis. Grocery shopped on weekends with a friend who had a car. One of my girlfriends drove taxi for awhile, but as you can imagine, it was the days before there were mandatory shields between the driver and the passengers. She gave it up, and waitressed until she finished university.

Friend use to drive for one of the Portland taxicab companies(80’s-90’s). He made a decent living til the city allowed independent taxicabs. This was way before Uber. As crime got worse in the Portland area attacks on taxi drivers increased. He would not pickup passengers in certain areas of Portland. He made most of his money from regular customers like elderly and even business people coming into Portland. He was able to retire. He died some years after retiring.

I was in nearby Cozumel. We got in a Taxi. There was an itchy Mexican blanket across the back seat. My scantly clad lady friend exclaimed, "What the Hell?!? I think that this blanket has "no see ems" or sand fleas in it." - I was afraid she was going to go into one of her racist rants. The Taxi Driver replied, "Lo siento (I'm sorry). I cannot move it. It belongs to El Jeffe (The Boss)." - Linda fumed, "Let me out right here!" We exited. Next - A little kid ran up and tried to sell us a small box of Chicklets. *sigh* The scuba diving was great though. 0

In St Louis it's quite different. The taxi cabs are indepently owned by the driver, rates are fixed and posted. AND cheaper than uber. Uber gets contractural business like medicare accounts and other vorporate

I heard there are large portions of Mexico, where the Mexican government is not allowed to go any longer. This would mean that Mexico is several countries and no longer one country.

The Mexican Army is everywhere, but they are different than the "government." The army is paid by the American government but the civilian government is paid for by corruption.
