Hi, good for you, congratulations on 10 years. I just made 4 years full-time myself the other day. I have RVed to Cabo San Lucas in my large motorhome. I have also been to the 4 extreme corners of the USA and 48 states. I have done it all on a teachers retirement. I plan to RV Alaska in 2025, fly to Hawaii and RV in a camper van in 2026 and do the same thing in New Zealand in 2027. Don
I went to New Zealand just before the pandemic in July and rented a camper van with a shower and a toilet. July is winter there and the weather was still great and the prices were cheap. I paid less per day to rent a camper van than it cost to rent a car. You will have fun.
10 years. Wow, that’s awesome! I’ve learned to save money on food by vacuum sealing and freezing my leftovers. Had enough frozen leftovers for a 2week trip to Florida this past spring. Only paid for two dinners at Crackerbarrels during my transit to and from Lakeland. Got free overnight parking there as well. Have a great summer!
LS1, you are doing it all wrong. You are supposed to get yourself in a mountain of debt while you are young. Then get a shit job and blame others for the mess you got yourself in.
There have been articles published for at least 40 years that explain how much more people would have to save for retirement if they started saving later. People didn't heed that advice, and as a result, the fastest-growing group of homeless is people of retirement age. We are seeing excess deaths in this group, especially if it is their first experience of homelessness. Consider someone who is 50 years old and has no retirement savings. They'd probably need to save 50% of their gross income to get somewhat caught up, and that presumes an above median household income". This state would probably last for ten years, if not longer. If you took the site watchman job, you should be paid for it. Too many companies want full-time volunteers for the cost of an RV hookup.
That is interesting. Living on 20% of "net" pension income without adding investment income. I believe I am now since I moved back to the Philippines. I wasn't when I was living in LA.

Great advice! I think paying off credit cards every month so you're not paying any interest is important. Unless there's an emergency, don't charge more than you can pay off at the end of the month.

I even stayed at his old place in Tucson back in 2014. Maybe he will turn up again sometime but nobody I know has heard from him in a few years. He was a super nice guy.
