Lighting Shabbat candles is one of the most universal and longstanding Jewish practices. By participating in this tradition, your family connects with today’s Jewish community worldwide and the generations from long ago. The custom of lighting candles is rich in symbolism and creates an atmosphere of sanctity and beauty. Shabbat Shalom, I began to light up candles with my daughter when she was 5 years old. Its been so special time for us. Baruch HaShem for a wonderful blessing of Shabbat ❤

I am a gentile but I amire the way jewish people show their devotion to the Master of the Universe in such beautiful ceremonies and traditions. Thanks for explaining. I believe if we gentiles had continued those traditions, most families would be bound together more tightly and would understand Divine love. Would it be wrong if my family practiced the Shabbat? @Ricardo, we fully encourage gentile believers to embrace and participate in the Sabbath to whatever capacity they are able to. There is great blessing in this holy day regardless of whether a person is Jewish or a Gentile. You never blow out sabbath candles if they are lit before bed place candle sticks with flame into sink. They should burn quickly if you light them at sundown

Can we buy any pigybank for charity? After the box is full what and where are we to give that money? To church or any needy people? Thank you sir

My question is when do we put the candles out? Do we blow them out before bedtime on Friday or exactly what happens? I am Gentile believer and new to observing the true Sabbath from Friday sunset to Sat sun set. Please someone respond if u know the correct answer please! Thank you!

Shalom! Those are two very good and practical questions. A charity box can be purchased at your local Judaica store or even online. Search for "Tzedakah Box" at Amazon or any online Judaica retailers. These come in all shapes and sizes and can be simple or elaborate. Sabbath begins in the MORNING...there was Light and THEN there was evening...a diminishing light...night and then morning-->day ONE...this Friday night “Sabbath Queen” is Babylonian...may He lead us out of it....HalleluYah
