I used to restore steering wheels and late 30s Deluxe Fords had marbleized steering wheels ,I spent alot of time trying to replicate that but never could ,this video finally shows me how!I used to ask everyone and read old magazines to try and duplicate that finish mixing etc ,seriously I spent years wondering. Thanks for making this .
This is just like when Bob Ross explains how painting works. There’s nothing hard about doing it, it’s just how you use your imagination to come up with these ideas. Who ever came up with this sure knows how to use his or hers imagination very good. Very nice paint job
I would love to be an airbrush artist. I’ve played around with it in the past but nowadays my health prevents it. I’ll keep getting my fix on utube tho lol 😆
Definitely a way to do it. I think putting down your silver, letting it dry and spaying the black over top and then laying the plastic is a better way. You are correct that you can control more of the pattern. But nature doesn't have patterns.
Now that is spectacular. That really turned out good. I've tried the crumpling magazine paper before but the plastic wrap really works. It sure turned the light bulb on. Now I have to find something to paint. Thanks for a great video.
id love to see him do silver over black, then black or gray, then silver again. i did that and love the depth. i can only imagine how good he can make it look.
Great results! I subbed. You showcased the work and the process to completion instead of showcasing how awesome you think you are. I'm inspired to do this, myself.
i had to touch up my paint after a screw up. i decided to do the silver over black then black over silver finishing with black again{i did it opposite from you} and the layered part of the fender looks so so so much better. give it a shot. really adds depth to the marbling
I really like this effect. I have a solid body guitar that has already been sanded and sealed 4 times now and lastly primed with gray Rustoleum. I think I will spray the body gloss black and try this effect.
Man you really know your stuff I am very new to this very lol I tried the marble dam it looks awesome thanks a million Chris keep the video coming I would be happy just to know a tenth of your skill you the man thanks
iam doinga guitar for a friend its a freebeee so cant spemd a bunch . i porimed the body with u-pol cat white primer and gonna paint the body black coukld i use white with grey with say a candy black over the top to make a more sutle look i have to put graphics on it still camo and a skull on the back .
Make a test panel or two to see what the resulting finish is going to be of your proposed color scheme. The colors and technique show in this video works. If the guitar's owner is a friend, ask them to by the needed paint materials. That you're doing a paintjob free-of-charge is a big gesture, they should reciprocate and but the right paints so the result looks great and is long lasting. Thank you.
Do you have a video related to the masking/shadow technique done here? That made for a lot of the final wow factor of this specific piece but wasn't shown.
We feature graphic tape-outs and drop shadow technique in many of our videos. You may wish to check out the 3-part series Candy Pearl Drag Racing Boat videos. Thank you.
We've not tried to reverse paint a marble effect, so not sure if this works, but you can test by first applying candy2o, then, backing that with a clear (2k best option) so as to prevent the silver and candy2o from bleeding into one another. After the silver marble effect, back with 6002 AutoBorne Sealer Black. Compare this versus painting the outside of the RC body and applying a clear over the candy2o. Thank you.
How durable is your candies I live in Florida and all the vehicles here always end up fading so all youll see is gold or silver roof, hood and trunk lids and side panels have candy paint on them.
candy2o are dyes intended for exterior coatings, same as what is used in quality solvent-based candy colors. The resin is a durable acrylic-polyurethane, intended for exterior automotive & architectural-grade coatings. Since their introduction in the late 1990s, Createx paints have proven to be a long-lasting, durable paint for use in an automotive base-coat / 2k solvent-based clear coat. We're also proud to say Createx paints won best of paint and 2nd overall (an Elite 8 car) at the 2020 Detroit Autorama's Riddler Competition. Thank you.
@@CreatexColors I appreciate you answering my question. I've used and have your products for air brushing. Just never used the candies because I was scared of them fading. Thank you.
Marbeling can be done without using a candy. As always, its best to make a test panel or two to experiment with technique and the finished outcome. Thank you,
Thanks! One more question, could I technically do this by just applying the paint directly to the saran wrap instead of transfering it from the painted plastic to the saran wrap?
Your inquiries are best addressed by a test panel. Quicksilver can be applied by brush, or better poured onto wax paper then dabbed on with scrunched-up plastic wrap. A test panel will show what candy2o Black looks like over various metallic bases. Test various mixing ratios, something between 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear 8:1 candy2o Black, up to 12:1. Thank you.
Hi Chris, that came out awesome!!! Curious I noticed you left it to dry overnight but i didnt see you sand before clear? is that correct? thank great job
Createx paints do not have to be (nor should they be) scuffed prior to clear. Apply the first coat of clear medium-wet direct to Createx paints after they've thoroughly dried. A tack / acclimation coat is not recommended. Thank you.
The marbling technique is done over AutoBorne Sealer Black, which can be applied direct to metal and wood, although with metal an etch DTM may be applied first. Thank you.
Wow. That is awesome. Thanks for taking time to make the video. I notice you touch the dried paint with ungloved fingers. Does that ever cause issues for you?
Createx paints are not that susceptible to trace oil contamination. Also, when candy2o is mixed 4050 6:1 candy2o, or 8:1, the dried coating is fairly durable and cures to a hard coating which can be lightly touched without affecting the color. Thank you.
It seems every one knows but me or they would have asked. So help me understand that you painted on a panel that had some sort of vinyl sticker you cut then weeded after or what did you paint the black sealer on. I just bought a load of stuff to do this. But I’m missing that part
6013 Silver Sealer was first painted, then a border design was creating using masking tape, cutting away the positive design (what is kept silver), then 6002 Sealer Black was applied where the candy-marble graphic was to be applied. For more about masking & taping, please watch, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7nhWdr4Ro-A.html. Thank you.
Ive always used spray paints or airbrush paints and 2k clear. But I watched a few different videos about the candy2o. Much nicer then what I've used I ordered the blue and green candy2o, along with 4030 clear and 4013 reducer. Was that the right stuff for this kind of affect.? Secondly do I have to clear it with anything before a 2k clear?
If top-coating candy2o with a 2k solvent-based clear, another clear type doesn't have to first be applied over candy2o. In regard to mixing candy2o, both 4030 and 4050 can be used; 4050 being a newer carrier option that we prefer over the 4030. for more please see our Mixing candy2o video, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nmj_pq8sm0o.html, and refer to the candy2o tech data sheet available at www.creatextech.com. Thank you.
I am thinking about using this technique for the base on my motorcycle tank, and then pinstriping over it... is the texture caused by the marbling a problem.. when you lay the plastic on the substrate, you can see in your video that it leaves a texture as well as a pattern.. is that going to cause problems with the clear?
This technique will require 2 clear sessions to bury the marble effect. Apply 3 - 4 coats of clear, scuff flat using @ 600 - 800 grit, then apply 2 or 3 more coats of clear. Make sure to keep re-coat times open so there is enough flashing of the solvent. Thank you.
@@CreatexColors I have another question, so i thought id pop back here and see if you could answer for me... If i am wanting silver pinstriping around the marbled area... would i use silver autobourne sealer, tape IT, paint over it with black (autobbourne sealer i guess?) .. do my marbling with aluminum and candy color(s), and then remove the tape for the pinstriping, or would i need to use the silver autobourne sealer, then a sliver metalic paint (not sealer) to tape before my black layer? (in other words, can the silver autobourne sealer serve as the paint layer for my pinstripping? )
Did you sand that marble effect paint before you sprayed the candy coat, or did you just let it dry for the 2 hours and then spray the candy? I'm trying to find out when you spray candy over another coat, when/do you sand before candy coat, and when/do you sand the candy coat before a clear coat.
Do not sand candy2o prior to top-coating with a catalyzed (2k) urethane clear. Allow colors to thoroughly dry, then apply the clear with the first coat being medium-wet. Thank you.
It would have the added effect of the Cosmic Sparkle pearl. the best way to determine what the addition of a pearl creates is to make a test panel. Thank you.
The spray-gun is an Iwata W400 with a LV-WBX 1.3 tip. The WBX is a 3-way split tip and sprays Createx paints better compared to the 4-way split tips. Thank you.
Dude, you do some sick work! I have a couple questions if you don't mind. I've been airbrushing RC bodies for myself for about 3 years now and my hobby has turned into a side business that's really taken off. I mainly use Spazstix and Pro-Line Candy paints for Candy jobs, and for everything else I use Faskolor,Pro-Line, and Wicked. I've been wanting to try Auto Air Candies, but have wondered if they'll adhere to lexan? I've got a Harbor Freight HVLP sprayer and a Detail sprayer that I use for liquid mask, but for my airbrushing I use my Iwata TRN2, Eclipse, Revolution, and Neo BCN. Does Auto Air have to be sprayed with an HVLP sprayer or will one of my airbrushes work? My TRN2 ,Revolution, and Neo BCN have .5 needles/nozzles and I have .3 in my Eclipse. Any tips or advice you could give me before I try and venture into Auto Air for Lexan?
candy2o works for painting polycarbonate / Lexan. New for 2021, Auto Air Colors has merged into Wicked Colors, each being made with the same acrylic resin. For more about Auto Air / Wicked Colors, please see the information at www.autoaircolors.com. Thank you.
To the person making this video. Is a intermodal spray before I use marbleized paint? I hope not. I want to do marbleized paint over base class gloss acrylic. Thanks.
The marbelizing technique in this video does not require a marbleizing additive. Over a base of gloss acrylic, an adhesion coating of 4050 IVLS Gloss Clear or AutoBorne 6000 Transparent Sealer will work well to marbleize over. Thank you.
Yes, we prefer 4050 as the candy2o carrier for any application including polycarbonate, plastics, hard-surface - anything but canvass. However, 4030 still works well and certainly can be used for application to polycarbonate. Thank you.
Hi Chris, Thank-you for making this video. Did you buff/polish the clear coat to get that amazing glass finish? I am a beginner and would love to try this with your paint products. Best wishes, Michael.
It depends. For the best quality finish, buffing a 2k clear works well. However, with the right technique and allowing the base paint to dry thoroughly before top-coating with the clear, buffing may not be required. This particular panel was not buffed/ polished. Thank you.
The drop-shadows along the tribal graphic are a 1:1:1 mixture of Wicked Detail Black, Violet and 4004 Transparent base.createxcolors.com/wicked-airbrush-colors/wicked-detail-colors/w051.html Wicked Black & Violet, Createx Transparent Black & Violet could also be used, as can substituting the 4004 Transp. Base with 5601 Transp Base and or adding 4030 Balancing Clear. Whats important is mixing a transparent black & violet, then extending that with a resin based clear to make a very transparent color, then thin a bit, 10% -20% per volume with 4011 Reducer. Thank you.
We manufacture water-based paint & coatings. We do not make 2k, solvent-based clears. Createx paints are universally compatible with any brand of 2k clear; a slower / higher temperature reducer is recommended for improved flow and leveling. Thank you.
You could try a marble technique then apply candy20 Black over it for a “murdered” finish. Definitely make a test panel or two to test this, perhaps seeing how saturated the marbled candy color needs to be. Thank you.
Killer! I'm building 1/25 scale drag cars and was looking for some palm tree graphics... not any more! Love what you created! Can't wait to give this a try. Scaled down of course! Great presentation too.
Just straight aluminum, as its being manipulated quite a bit, which is easier with an acrylic paint compared to an acrylic- urethane mix created by adding 4050. Thank you.
