Welcome to Canggu! Come with us as we explore one of the fastest growing parts of Bali. Canggu just a few years ago was a beach club a couple atms with rice fields and flowing landscapes. In simply a matter of years, the area has exloded with new booming business, amazing beach clubs and restaurants, along with an influx of visitors and creative entrepreneurs.
You don't have to look far to find local culture though. It's common scene where you have people chopping away in the fields while tourists roll by on the mopeds.

Very nice video about Canggu, you summed up things nicely BUT of course ommited the real situation, can't blame you since you wanna make people dream. After 14 years living in the South of Bali I'm done. The whole regency of Badung has become insane, from the tip of the Bukit up to Pererenan. Where is the nature? Replaced by shops, bars/lounges, villas, hotels, hipsters/instaheads spots and so on. The charm of Bali's southern regency was its beaches, ricefields, nonchalant way of life. Now we got unrestricted development, a land ravaged, deprived water table, pollution at every level (sea, air, land, freshwater), maddening traffic jams, outrageous prices of housing. Tourists used to come to this island to enjoy its nature and culture, now they come to party and take selfies. This is sick. Bali is a perfect example of what unplanned development and greed can do to a place.

I am. The most important "what to know": Bali is way more religious and conservative than you're might used to, so have respect for the culture and cover up once anything religion-related comes up. (E.g. Hindu processions at the beach and such)

I miss old Canggu. It was great about 10 years ago, everyone would congregate at the same place each night as that would be the only place open with entertainment, Mondays at one place, Tuesdays another place and other parts of Canggu were quiet, now it's like Seminyak has sprawled out into Canggu, quite noisy all over. Love the place but it was a bit much for me last time...

Great content although I wish you could call out how damaging over-tourism has been in Bali. You mentioned that Canggu used to be all rice fields and now they're disappearing... Why? Because too many people are going to Bali, and too many hotels and restaurants are being built. Bali is not going to have enough rice to feed its populations... less rice fields, less agricultural jobs, less people have work, more inequality, more damage to the local population... Am I the only one seeing how vicious and dangerous this cycle is??? And to clarify, I'm not saying don't showcase or go to Bali, but can you give us the full picture and encourage your audience to be responsible, conscious travellers? If you really love Bali and want to see it continue to thrive, I don't think it's responsible to just say "go out there now before it's too late since the island is changing so fast...". Just food for thought.

I had the opportunity to visit Bali for a week back in 2017! I cannot describe how awesome it was and how cool people were there. I did pass by Canggu but didn't stay there... Definitely worth coming back, wouldn't think about it twice.

Been going to Bali for the past 4 years and most recently spent Christmas and NYE in Ubud. Unfortunately I no longer step foot in Canggu nor Seminyak as from my point of view it has become too congested, noisy and dirty. There is way too much people making it unbearable to actually enjoy the real pace of life Bali is all about. The savage developments are another indicator of where the area is heading, catching up with the likes of Kuta. It is no longer that affordable neither, prices are up to European standards in most parts. As where there are many outstanding f&b concepts all around, the quality is nothing out of the ordinary. And what can you say about the beaches, where you can´t walk barefoot for 10 metres without risking your integrity as per how filthy it has become. Traffic, oh the traffic... Nonsense, it seems you are in Jakarta or Shanghai. All in all Canggu is, from my humble opinion, the best example of Indonesian corruption and their careless sustainability policies The authorities have allowed this place to ruin itself for good. By no means I´d travel all the way to Bali to spend my holidays in Canggu, there are numerous other places I´ll be spending my coin on.

Nice video. I first went to Canggu in 1987. There was ONE drink cart on the top of the stairs just north of the rivermouth. Miles of rice fields. Kinda liked it better then, but still love it
