I went without coffee for 2 months during boot camp. The day I graduated I went to a restaurant with my family and had a cup of coffee, and it was truly amazing. Couldn’t stop talking/smiling. Didn’t eat anything, just sat there basking in caffeine’s glory. Very powerful. And I’m very addicted.
My wife and I are fans of the strange, dark, and mysterious and we don't miss any of your stories :) thanks for your content and commitment. Looking forward to today's story!
My mom started giving me coffee with breakfast in 1st grade. Basic training was the longest time since I was 6 I went without coffee. My dad would have espresso and brandy breaks when he was an Airman at Lajes. We’re a family of addicts.
I stoped coffee consumption about 25 years ago because of a bad period in my life, I suffered from anxiety and panic attacs. Coffee exacerbated my anxiety and activated a panic attack, so I stopped drinking coffee. The coffee withdrawals consisted of headache 24h/d during 10 days. I woke up with headache and went do bed with headache. During the 10 days I felt ill, but at day 11 I felt good, no headache anymore and stoping caffeine was helpful for me with the anxiety issue. Since then I like to be awake without needing a coffee. I would never have stopped drinking coffee without the anxiety problem.
Was the same reason for me . Caffeine affects our brain neurotransmitters . 1 day I asked myself why when I was a kid I didn’t need any stimulating substances like coffee, the moment I woke up I had lots of energy and can go outside to play with my friends without having breakfast… it’s been almost 1 year since I quit drinking coffee and it’s getting better and better
@@jjss3055bro. I used yo drink it everyday to get energy to work (10 hrs a day). After months I stopped because it is q drought and after the effect ends, you feel soo tired. After months of being off, you start to get used to it, and then you realize that you have the same energy, just not concentrated in hours but evenly during the day. I ended up working 14hrs a day with no worries
I basically gave up coffee three months ago, as well as virtually no caffeine intake. I had my first two shots of Starbucks espresso after three months and it was so powerful and intense I wanted to run and walk for miles for hours. That same night my sleep was utterly ruined, I woke up multiple times in the middle of the night. Very powerful drug. I think I am going to continue this caffeine free lifestyle for the foreseeable future. Decaf if I want to "treat" myself.
When I’ve been addicted to anything I’ve always felt that I’m either up or down. If I just consumed the drug, I’m up, and if it’s been hours since, I’m crashed, I feel I need another hit, or sleep.. It’s been two weeks off coffee for me and my energy throughout the day is just at a normal level.. There’s no huge peak in the morning, then crash by noon, then another coffee, then spending my evenings really tired/crashed. My sleeps improved, I just feel normal. I can’t believe I spent like 20 years on caffeine.
@@kramnewton8683I quit coffee 6 days ago, but still drink black tea. I’ve noticed I’m less irritable but the sleep is about the same (not great) and energy during the day is pretty low after 12pm, basically want to do nothing or even lay in bed all day. So idk.. kind of need to get stuff done at work plus just not feel like a vegetable. Although the irritability and impulsiveness from coffee is kind of bad too especially when driving or dealing with annoying people. So no clear cut win or loss unfortunately.
I was drinking a ton of caffeine and then started getting heart arrhythmias. Cardiologist kept saying it wasn't from caffeine. I finally quit cold turkey and haven't had a recurrence in 7.5 years. I missed it for a long time but I like living more.
Cardiologist doesn't make money if he cures you . If he treats the symptoms forever - he makes a fortune. So he tells you it isn't caffeine , cause he knows if you quit and arrhythmia stops , he loses the cash cow .
There’s actually a study that proved that 1-3 cups of coffee a day increases risk of cardiovascular disease for certain individuals with a particular genotype, proving that coffee is in fact unhealthy for certain individuals who can’t metabolize caffeine as quickly as others.
Same thing happened to me. I had AFIB, my heart would start racing up to 180 beats per minute. Doc said caffeine wasn't a cause. But I went off caffeine - not because of AFIB but because I had a frequent urination problem. When I went off caffeine for two weeks I had no AFIB, then one day I decided I need caffeine, as soon as I drank - two ounces my AFIB came back. Apparently after I withdrew from caffiene I was even more responsive to it. Studies say that caffeine isn't a trigger for AFIB, but it is for me.
I quit smoking using the On! Pouches and quit coffee with decaf, then one day a few months ago, I just said fuck it, any amount of caffeine already effects me negatively and the On! Pouches just became gross after a year, I just quit both of those the same weekend. I had smoked for 20 years before the pouches, which really worked well. Reading the ingredients to both cigs and the pouches(way “safer”) are just too disturbing to write off forever. Couldn’t easily find any pouches without the fake sweeteners. So after the day I quit I had 3-4 weeks of intermittent migraine style headaches just from decaf and 2mg pouches. What made me really quit the pouches was that I started getting a few headaches which NEVER get, so I quit everything the next day. Haven’t had a headache in a few weeks, knock on wood cuz that shit was pretty intense at times. Now just eat a crapload of things like cilantro to get the heavy metals out of the body a much as possible even though NOTHING beats old fashion sweating. 😅

I stopped drinking caffeine 7 years ago due I have some weird side effects. But after being 7 years without a cup of coffee I can tell that nothing really changes, I work on Night Shifts constantly and I can remain awake without any problems and when I’m at morning shifts I can wake up without hesitate and remain in focus during the day. So I think after a couple months you can still have your normal life without coffee.
yeah this guy is full of shit lol. caffeine did not cause the arab mathematical revolution or the enlightenment. nice way to justify your addiction though..
I gave up coffee for Lent one year (Lent lasts 40 days) and couldn't understand why I was so mean and irritable to everyone around me during that time ... it must have been the lack of caffeine! And yes, that Easter, the coffee was amazing.. :) thanks for posting!
This is complete horse manure. This caffeine addict is trying to extol the benefits of a drug that he's dependent on, and basically attributing all of modern development to one cause. Any external food that provides no nourishment but is required for you to function effectively can never be a good thing. The ideal way is to get off caffeine entirely and drink it only for the taste rather than for the hit.
@@JuntaJanardhan "External food" as opposed to...internal food? Pollan just explained elaborately the numerous benefits of caffeine both historically and subjectively... Which prompted your thoughtful criticism of "horse shit. it can't be good". :D Wonder why?
I had blood pressure issues 4-5 months ago so I was kinda forced to quit coffee. Instead I tried to drink more water and consume more fruits&vegetables. After a little while I felt more awake and alive during the morning and the whole day than ever. Before that I was a sloth, depending on caffeine to get things going.
Very interesting clip. Over the years I realized if you get adequate sleep, coffee in the morning isn't really necessary. It's much more worthwhile to save it for those times you really need a boost in energy, whether it be when you had BAD sleep, gym etc. Problem is so many people drink coffee as part of their routine.
I never needed coffee in the morning, but always needed it in the afternoon after lunch. I feel fine from the time I wake up till lunch with no stimulants. But as soon as you start eating (excluding breakfast for some reason it doesn’t have much of a negative affect) - energy crashes and you want to go to sleep and that’s where you need coffee. The solution is to eat one meal a day in the evening after work. When you don’t eat, your energy is always good and stable throughout the day.
I remember 35 years ago my grandma used to grind the coffee beans herself in a grinder. It smelled soo good so fresh. She would brew big clay pots and we would drink it first thing in the morning (also through out the day) and a cup before bed. Every- single -day without a miss for an entire year while i lived with her. I was just 10 years old then! No loss of sleep. No energy bursts. No irritability. No nothing.
quitting caffeine (6 cups coffee per day) was the best thing i ever did for my sleep quality and daily physical energy. i also learned that a big chunk of what i thought was anxiety was my body simply being overloaded by caffeine. it’s a very powerful drug!
Well, cocaine goes through a hell of a lot of chemical processes beforehand... You know they soak the plants in gasoline and do all kinds of gross shit to it right?
@@sseppel the plant still makes the chemical. That process just extracts and concentrates it. That's why you will get some effects of cocaine if you eat coca leaves.
YES!! I learned so much and made so many mental connections to history with just this clip and so many associations to the way things are still perceived to this day and age. Extremely fascinating! What a storyteller and an excellent weaver of information.
"Caffeine freed us from the rhythm of the sun" - really? I thought candles did that? I thought monks burnt the candles well into the night for centuries? Or does caffeine impart night vision? The guys just a liar. Another chosenite who gets to go on MSM and "re-tell" European history as a pack of made up lies." It makes sense that Arab.." yeah it wasnt quite the Golden Age that this race that hates Christ and hates Christians wants us to believe. Rogan just comes off as gullible.
You have a point. He seems to throw in good info but it feels like the whole structure is very fragile if you start probing. But whats the overall thesis- caffeine is addictive. And we never got the conclusion or advice really. I feel sad for people who are addicted to coffee and a little jealous. I cant sleep till 8am if i drink a cup
ive never drank a cup of coffee in my life and have been totally caffeine free for many years! caffeine makes me feel anxious and increases heart rate, especially in pre workout gym supplements. I believe a truly strong human should be free of all crutches and vices etc.
I gave up caffeine for over a year and all that happened was I was slightly less awake a lot of the time. But that first cup after a year was WONDERFUL. For a long time I would wean myself off for a few weeks just to give it that kick again. Just switching to a much lower dose like tea or decaf for a week is almost just as good.
I had to experience caffeine withdrawal involuntary about 10 yrs. ago because I was incarcerated. It was about 4-5 weeks until I could afford to buy coffee through our commissary; my first cup was exactly as he said - I felt as high as a kite, wanted to go run 5 miles while writing a book at the same time. Crazy how powerful it is.
I quit caffeine altogether on February 7 2022. That was 5 months ago. I wasn't really a coffee guy, but I gulped down caffeine. I feel more "human" not being driven by the drug. I've already quit marijuana, alcohol, and cigarettes over the past decade. My remaining skeleton in the closet is sugar. When I win that battle, I will feel so much better. I don't intend to permit eliminate sugar, but I want to be the authority in the relationship. -Paul
I swear natural sugar in things like coconut water, or fruit do not effect you negative, And there so many things to replace added sugar like ethritol, I eat this ice cream by "enlightened" name brand and it has no added sugar and I BET you, you can't tell it has no sugar its absolutely amazing. I am not on a keto diet but I do avoid added sugar and do a high protein diet and I swear to God my body starting eliminating most the fat on my body which was mostly my thighs, and was replaced by muscle.
Thats awsomwe! I stopped drinking coffee january and I stopped drinking alcohol 2020. I started jogging and other weight training. I have to say I sleep better and feel amazing. I was never sugar guy and I enjoy my fruits. Frozen bananas is my icecream 😁 Greetings from Finland where coffee is used the most in the whole world!
I started drinking coffee again earlier this year along with the keto diet. This has been 1 of my most productive years! Lost 30lbs. Got my PMP & several other certifications. Also started a new career in tech sales. I'll keep drinking my coffe. Bloodwork is perfect. No meds. Heart is ticking fine! 😅☕️
Some people need uppers, others need downers in order to be productive. I'll stick to my CBD oil and Gyokuro green tea, no second thoughts whatsoever. But I can understand why people like caffeine, the feeling when it hits your vascular system is absolutely incredible. But then again, thinking about those sleepless nights and being depressed...Nope.
I guarantee if you had did the same thing but without the coffee you wouldve been even better, but instead if for some reason you can't get to your coffee your whole day is ruined like a baby without his baby bottle 😂
Quit coffee for more than a year. My energy is back, my morning appetite is back and, most importantly, i don't feel like a junky who didn't take their dose today. Pure water squad over here!
@@benharris7358 coffee is mostly natural, energy drinks and sodas are absolutely horrible for you, some of the worst legal shit a human can put in their body. This is not a bragging point.
@@benharris7358 I honestly can't understand how people can drink soft drinks regularly. Then my wife told me how all her American cousin's families would have a couple of 2 litres on the table at every dinner. Almost forcing young kids to drink something they'll become addicted to. And now the more "health conscious" parents will offer Gatorade for their morbidly obese kids.
@@mards2479 , i have energy drinks maybe once a month or less. So its not a staple. And I’ll have a glass of soft drink with dinner usually, but not always Coke. The point is that i do fine with minimal to zero amounts of caffeine - im not having to drink coffee to wake up in the morning
I drank coffee for 25 years. 2-4 mugs of strong black daily. I ended up with blown adrenal glands, causing intermittent sleep pattern. Also an inflamed stomach and reflux. I stopped, thinking just until my stomach heals, I got headaches for couple of days and couldnt really think straight. Now i sleep well, my stomach has healed. I had one cup of coffee on a ski trip recently, it felt incredible at the time, euphoric but hours later i got heart palpitations. I'm not going back. I realise i make excuses for coffee just like any addict. Drinking it all the time is not good for you. It's a powerful industry and easy to paint a healthy image when that much money is at stake. You can analyse a positive aspect of coffee and ignore the negatives. Bottom line, you're not meant to be living your life dependent on drugs. You may manage but it will most likely cause problems.
@@jesuslovesyou-mattsmith1502 If you want to quit you can! I frank it for 40 years. Heavily in my 30-40’s. It’s been only 3 weeks, but I’m starting to feel better. It depletes vitamin B badly. It just reeks havoc on your body.
Over a year ago, I tried this. I only did a month, but aye that first coffee hit me like a trip. Forward to now, after having many bouts of trynna quit and come back, I found out something new. Spreading my intake out to where I don’t drink it for 2,3, 4 days helps. Tonight I haven’t had a drink in almost 2 days, and I decided to dilute my energy drink into a jug of water, and Fucking aye it has done more for me than any drink alone recently. I’ve encountered those psychedelic caffeine trips many times. It’s more of a hyper aware feeling than anything.
JRE clips is so helpful in allowing me to weed out interesting Joe shows from ones I could care less about. Now I can go to Spotify and listen to this one in it's entirety.
Yep . Stopping Wdd , but there are I’m going to buy more , smoking again . I’m enjoying this fucked up realization, because I’m ok , I’m fictional , but not good what it does to your brain body action in life . For now I’m enjoying till I don’t want more
I stopped coffee for about two years when I had cancer, as it was really effecting me. When I went back to it, after my cancer cleared up, it didn't have much of an effect on me. A proper made coffee is a great drink, I do love the taste and the feeling.
I mean, it is a stimulant. Hence the feeling of needing to do something. 15 years ago I worked at a motorcycle dealership and we had a salesman who would go in the back and snort coke and then come back into the showroom and rearrange all the bikes. I’m talking like 50 frickin 300 to 400 pound motorcycles. Move them all around and completely change the layout. He’d be covered in sweat by the end of it all and look so haggard and worn out. It was absolutely terrible but hilarious at the same time.
I quit caffeine and coffee from having to deal with anxiety and panic attacks. Needless to say I’m way calmer without it and honestly I feel better without it.
Dude I swear when I had my first anxiety and panic attack is because I overdose myself with caffeine 🙃 😅 I will admit tho I'm addicted to caffeine in general but I realize that i don't need it. What I truly need is proper sleep 😴 and alittle exercise.
I quit caffeine mostly out of laziness and stinginess. I didn't have a coffee maker so I couldn't make any, and I didn't want to spend money on a pot or $80 cups at the Starfucks. So I just kinda stopped without even deciding to, it just kinda happened gradually. At least regularly. I take caffeine tablets every now and then, but they don't do much, just a slight boost if I am required to stay up for some reason. But caffeine only twice ever did anything for me like the euphoric feeling, and that was the first and second time I had coffee, both times which I would then go on to get a monster canister about 2 hours after coffee and I felt amazing. I went for a run, I was in a silly mood... but then that never came back. When I deliberately quit for a few months, hoping I'd get it back when I tried it again, I felt nothing. So to me really caffeine is something I use if I am required to stay up to do something, not really for energy or to function properly, just when I have to not be asleep. I honestly I don't even think about it. If someone is offering coffee I'll have some just to have something to drink, but I never seek it out.
This gave me a great insight to taking a more “ritualistic” and grateful approach to my morning coffee. I never drank the stuff until March 2022 - but since then my lifelong depression started to fade. Thanks guys for an amazing video.
Get blood work. You're probably low on potassium magnesium D3 more than anything and you may eat a lot of garbage like most people instead of getting good fats and proteins. I will drop the caffeine I'm going through it right now it's hell. A lot of folks suffering from depression don't realize it's vitamin and mineral deficiencies.
I “loved” night work too, but… I couldn’t find a rhythm to spend time with friends and family, didn’t interact with people at night at work either. It’s depressing. Fuck that shit. All the coffee in the world couldn’t get me through the sleepless sunrise.
@Go Surf that’s cute because I use caffeine to fuel my song writing and guitar playing…creative dreams and ambitions. I guess you really do create your own prison with your own ideas. Also I’m not tired. I hear a lot of people give advice about sky diving that have never jumped too.
I stayed off caffeine for Almost 20 days. After 16 yrs of daily coffee and caffeinated drinks. I realized the self that I was when I became aware of different aspect of my self. Personality seemed relaxed and more aware of the present. First week was hard but after that I seem to have more control over myself and was available to rest when desired. I also slept more hours a day and got my dreams back, I was more aware of the thoughts that are on traffic on a daily basis , I seem to be the witness of the mental activity. I felt I had found something, but I continue drinking coffee again and here I am commenting.
Same. Also, I also had dark circles under my eyes for 20 years that have gone away within a month. The headaches the first week were rough but so worth it.
" isn't it amazing that a plant can produce a chemical that unlocks a receptor in your brain that's astonishing" (Joe slowly pulls out Bong with a bowl full of DMT) " Well if that amazes you......"
I absolutely love caffeine, more so in the form of coffee. A nice fresh brewed espresso in the morning is unbeatable. However sometime in my life, I developed social anxiety disorder. I'm now trying to quit drinking coffee. It's very difficult because I truly love everything about espresso but since quitting, (I'm now only on my fourth day) my anxiety is much more controllable, and my body doesn't tremble as much when I get into situations that make me uncomfortable. I have started a new career which requires public speaking and man, has quitting caffeine made a difference.
I struggle with social anxiety too. I have found lower my caffeine intake has helped, a long with my anxiety medicine. Social anxiety disorder is a real and de habilitating disorder. Praying that God continues to work in your life to bring peace, confidence, and comfort.
I went without coffee for 6 months to see if it was contributing to my drop attacks. I always describe coffee as euphoric, but that first one after the 6 month break was unforgettable.
My brother who I worked with would give me these "pills" to get awake in the morning. So for months I'm unaware what this pill is doing or has in it. It was literally just a caffeine pill but still, the fear not knowing drove that. Plus I would be doing these 40 plus hour weeks at work all the while I'm a pot smoker mind you right so the memory was foggy. I had my own panic attack because of the over caffeine and smoking so much on the brain. Truly a unforgettable.
@pissedpajamas5718 thinking back it wasn't so bad, and knowing I'm kinda a hypochondriac helped. I still be working 40 hour weeks I'm just more mindful now
I stopped drinking coffee after it started giving me anxiety and palpitations. Don’t miss it at all, I’m just as productive in the morning due to vastly improved sleep and a clear mind. I now exercise in the morning in order to get an energy boost instead, way healthier than chugging caffeine.
Green or white tea are much lower in caffeine but still give the clear headedness. Green tea is even attributed to lowering anxiety. I quit coffee after palpitations and started Green tea and I'm loving it
I've had trippy visions that caffeine puts your body into an altered frequency and is more succeptible to electromagnetic fields causing issues. But hey I'm just an idiot repeating thoughts.
Interesting take on caffeine but it's very "bourgy" take on history pre-modern era since like 90% of most slaves and workers and servants were not drinking caffeine to do the labour's, nor is it correct to link caffeine to both the enlightenment in 16th century and mideast science revolution in 12th century. There was however the cafe culture of highest elites and intellects where ideas were exchanged, and some anecdotal evidence of huge coffee drinkers like Newton and Voltaire. Still, there are various other factors impacting the proliferation of ideas and booms of productivity that caffeine plays much minor part compared to other factors than as being suggested. Free speech and freedom of and openness to non-religious/scientific/philosophical/literature/arts/history has more to do with the system and rights and education that encourages and promotes different eras of human thought and discovery, as well as the technological tools available such as optics like telescopes and microscopes. Optics, print press, chemicals, food, different paints and arts, metal working, economics, timekeeping, discovery of elements, imperialism and exploration leading to discoveries etc as well as freedom of intellectualism are much more direct causes than caffeine...
So glad to hear this! I quit coffee about 6 months ago and I feel amazing. Kinda sad seeing so many comments about some people seeming almost “proud” to claim that the are addicted to caffeine. My health has improved in so many ways since I quit and I don’t ever see myself going back. No more migraines/tension headaches, no more gut issues, and my anxiety is at an all time Low. Glad to see some people realizing caffeine isn’t the only way to feel energized and that caffeine isn’t a substance our body necessarily “needs”. Cheers to you! 🙏🏽🥂
Been off it for about a year and dont miss it one bit! My nervous system finally feels regulated, sleep has improved and i feel more clarity in my day to day life. I had a cup a few months ago just to see how I would feel and It was horrible 😂 spent the afternoon feeling massive anxiety to the point of actual chest pain, never again ;)
@TylerPronesti After this video I successfully quit cold turkey for 90 days and that momentum spiraled into quitting sugar, which eventually led to quitting 🟧⬛️ which is leading to a spiritual awakening using 🍄 and acid 😂 its been a wild year
Awesome! I have a similar story, alcohol, nicotine, sugar, dairy, caffeine (I had a heart issue I was trying to figure out and funny thing is it was something other than all the stuff I quit but I felt so good I just stayed away from all that stuff, I'm getting ready to get me some boomers to really open up my mind, I also added 2 min cold showers! @robertmauro746 Yes! Thats great to hear! The cold shower thing is fantastic! I've found this app called Mental that guides you through diferent stress breathing techniques and builds you up slowly towards a longer shower
I used to drink caffeine all of the time. But at at around age 20 it started giving me panic attacks and crippling anxiety. I can handle small doses every so often such as a tea but coffee or energy drinks are a no go for me.
My life exactly. I started having panic attacks along with experiencing severe social anxiety. Rhodiola rosea does the job for me now, along with CBD oil and Gyokuro green tea. Works perfectly. Herbs are incredible. Oh, and I sleep well too.

@@corathorne4508 probably caffeine. alcohol feels missing sometimes in social situations, but the memories of hangovers is another good reminder not to do it. it is hard with socializing, people treat me like a crazy person when I tell them you dont drink, it's absurd. sugar was easy, I wasnt a fan of sweets to begin with. caffeine however felt kinda harmless. I used to drink just one coffee a day, strong black arabic, tasted great, felt good on those winter mornings. but it wast perfect, the buzz you get is great when it happens, but theres two downsides: the over-buzz where you feel it's two much, and the down that comes sometime after. I eat bananas during the day. very good and balanced energy throughout the day, and I work out hard regularly.
@@Eametsa addiction is doing something you don't wanna be doing, not wanting it but needing it, if he would have brewed a cup at night knowing he shouldn't then yea, but you can't help thoughts.
I gave it up years ago and now whenever I do have the odd cup at a social event it gives me crazy heart palpitations and I get pretty aggressive. I also tend to not sleep at all that night either even if I drink it early in the morning. It's kinda frightening just how powerful caffeine is and how many are hooked on it. I don't miss it at all but at the same time it makes life difficult not being into caffeine or alcohol since 99% of adults need these 2 substances in order to function. Not being able to tolerate these substances anymore really destroys your social life as they are so ingrained in our society.
I have noticed this too that many consume alcohol & caffeine to cope and for socializing yet it exacerbates anxiety issues. I've seen many clients as a therapist dependent on these issues that seem to heighten/correlate with their anxiety, focus/add, and depression issues. @@mickrozycki451

When I quit using caffeine I found that I slept much better, I wasn't depressed (caffeine has been shown to be a depressive, once the stimulant effect wears off, and this lasts for as long as caffeine is in your system) paradoxically I had more energy, my thinking was clearer and I wasn't reactive at all. Caffeine changed my personality in significant ways, this remained unknown to me until I quit using it for an extended period of time.
Amen! Sleep is better, focus is better, energy is not down and mood is up. I will still drink coffee occasionally but it is no longer my master. Depression, anxiety, memory fog got abit better when I switched from carb/pasta/grains heavy diet to a more robust one of meat, veggies and just abit of carbs... not trying keto again. But what really made me feel better was getting off coffee. ...I was a big drinker...
You guys have to do more research on how harmful caffiene is. Coffee cuts 30%-40% of blood flow to you brain thats why you cant think. The reason every shitty job has coffee and every corner theres a starbucks is because the rulers need you drugged caffinated so you can do your boring job without blowing your brains out. Hence the coffee perfect drug to keep you non thinking
Had to quit during pregnancy until after the first year of giving birth... was miserable the first few months but charged it up to pregnancy hormones. That first cup back, i cried because it felt soooo good.
The key is moderation. One cup of coffee is pretty healthy (but afair you don't need caffeine for this, so decaf might be best option in general), but drinking 4+ is asking for trouble. And even 1 cup can create dependency, so taking several day breaks from time to time to reset this is useful too. There is also genetic factor - part of population is slow caffeine metabolisers and for them drinking more than 2 cups a day can be simply dangerous in terms of immediate effects - hearts and blood pressure problems and all things related to this.
Been off Caffeine for almost 18 months. Became less stressed, less anxious, feel so much better. The first week I had withdrawal, woke up in cold sweats at nights, and had one of the strangest experiences in my life. I had this ultra realistic/vivid dream involving a jaguar fighting a lion and I could see everything...so bizarre. Highly recommend this to everyone :)

18 months, nice! 13 months caffeine-free myself. Oddly, I've developed serious anxiety issues since being off caffeine. Never had issues with anxiety before.
I've been caffeine-free for 15 years now, not even chocolate. My fuse was a lot shorter on it, prone to anger and even rage. My sleep was a mess, especially waking up regardless of what time 4AM or 9AM, always difficult and very grumpy thanks to withdrawal until I got my first 'hit' of the day. It's a positive personal lifestyle choice and glad I eventually choose a different path.
I drank a half caf today after being off caffeine for 6 months. My brain was on hyperdrive for 6 hours straight, haven't experienced anything like this. I had no idea what a strong psychotropic coffee is, and can't imagine how I was drinking 3-4 cups of this drug for years without even noticing.
I don't remember feeling that when i took coffee for the first time. I don't feel addicted and i can work properly without it. I think this all topic is overexagerated, talking about coffee like it is ecstacy or cocaine 😂😂
@@mrboombastic8369maybe your consuming other things with caffeine when your not drinking it, the same thing happened to me after a long break from caffeine, made me feel high bruh, although i didnt have the negative effects all these other people are talking about coming off of it.
I've just completed 1 month no caffeine, don't miss coffee or pop, not the taste or ritual. I like the conclusion about plant affecting. I'd like to know his thoughts on herbs/supps, particularly saw palmetto. Great info.
I quit coffee and diet soda at the same time. Although I was a pot of day coffee drinker plus soda I didn’t have any issues. In the first week I felt more energy and have not gone back. I do drink decaf coffee in the morning which probably has small amounts of caffeine.
Hahaha! He was on some fivehead caffeine manipulating Joe type shit. ;) Also, caffeine plus psychedelics is like setting fire to liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen if you mix them. Im talking about rocket fuel tripping. Maybe its just me, but caffeine and psychedelics are a fun combination.
KapteinFruit Woow that sound like Mayas drinking cacao beverage and taking mushrooms. What's in common? Yes, caffeine (sorry for my english, i just learn from youtube hahaha)
I didn’t even mean to quit drinking coffee but it just happened because I was so busy. After 3 months I feel better than ever and find it extremely easy to wake up and go to sleep now. Also I’m saving a tonne of money. Would definitely recommend giving it up for a month if you drink it daily, you’ll realise that you probably had a dependence on it.
I quit caffeine about four days ago after 200mg a day for years. The first couple days felt like I had the flu, but now it's just tiredness until I reach equilibrium. I'm a lot less anxious, and I sleep like an absolute rock. Having been an alcoholic for 8 years, I don't like being a slave to any substance. I want to indulge as I see fit, but not be so dependent that I experience withdrawals--whether it be from substances, relationships, ideas, or anything else we become hopelessly attached to. Self discipline is key.
I quit drinking coffee about three months ago I feel so much better! Also healing takes place in the parasympathetic nervous system and you cannot tap into that when you are cortisol cracking out on coffee! Happy healing!
I just got off a six week break from caffeine. I noticed very little difference. But, I definitely notice now how I feel when I drink caffeine. My main source is green tea now.
Completely agree. I'd been travelling for 2 months without drinking coffee. Then one day before a tour of the Bourneo jungle, our guide offered if anyone wanted a coffee and I accepted. Immediately I felt a euphoria and warmness overtake me and I couldn't stop smiling. It was an incredible day that I'll never forget.
@@Itwontfitn I am 40 days clean from Kratom. The 4th day without kratom was one of the worst days of my life and I could not sleep, could not just lay down because of restleg leg syndrome, sweating, crying. Caffeine withdrawal has nothing on kratom, it was terrible. i am addicted to energy drinks now and coffee and still I dont feel happy anymore.
I went off caffeine/coffee for 9 months...about 10 years ago, because my cortisol flipped---too much training stress all day as I was a Personal Trainer at the time... and for those of you who don't know what THAT is---it is when you are wide awake at night, and dragging an anchor in the AM, the opposite of what cortisol should do... and honestly after the initial 'shock' --my brain got a calm focus going...I am naturally focused though, but it was more chill and, in a way, good words came to me easier, as I am/was also a writer. Today, I only drink 8 oz in the early morning which is way enough for me... I doubt, unless there is a health concern, ever give it up again. I also have left PT way in the rear view...
I recently jumped on caffeine and drank a big cup of coffee the biggest one from AMPM before my workout for 5 days straight I felt great lifting but I stopped for two to three days and I felt depressed I'm looking for the comments to see if there's any information on the weather I can safely take caffeine or should I just get off of it
I been caffeine free mostly coffee that I quit for about 6 years now. Best decision in my life. No more ups and downs, teeth staining, acid reflux, save money/time, and now I get much better higher quality of sleep.
I'm from Ethiopia. A country where coffee is discovered from. Coffee in Ethiopia is not just caffin. It is culture. it has it's own ceremony. Special kettle called 'jebena' and special cups calles 'sini'.
In the USA... we got this stuff called beer... we serve it out of a can (the rich people use bottles) and we drink it in places called man caves. That's our culture.
I'm on Swiss decaf now and trying to wean off caffeine. I have green tea sometimes, but I can switch to decaf of that as well. I was drinking WAY too much coffee, often a whole pot of the hot stuff and then a cold carafe of the store coffee sometimes. The makes me aggressive and angry, and I actually think it has a depressive effect in high quantities. I recall that after a few days of just decaf I tried the real stuff again and had too much during the day; it ruined my sleep that whole night.
I quit caffeine at age 24 - 3 years after I quit alcohol. I am free to control my life now - without Highs and Lows. No Uppers ... No Downers! I smile a lot!
Quitted drugs, risky activities, and tobaco over the years progressivly, still occasional alcohol, and cofee. This comment really contains the essence of my feelings
I drank coffee twice a day for 2 years and realized my anxiety was through the roof. I would be high for an hour and then uncomfortably jittery all day after. I ended up quitting for 8 months and noticed how evenly-keeled I’d become. The jitters had gone away and I was much more calm and focused with day-to-day tasks. I now only have caffeine on weekends when I’m going out and interacting/networking with people. It’s a great drug, but must be used properly
Nobody should drink coffee. Before you object, think about for a while. The reason you feel good about drink it, feel bad not drink it, is caffeine excites your nervous system, make you forget about tiredness. You see, if you are tired, your body sends you a signal, you are supposed to have some rest, right? That's natural protection system at work. You want to break that mechanism, ignore that signal. That's insanity.
@@seanleith5312 Modern life doesn’t allow this. You can’t take a nap at work if you are tired. You can’t sleep in and be late for work if you are tired.
I was addicted to caffeine in form of coffee and energy drinks for about 4 years when I did overnight shifts at the beginning it was fun and good because I could feel very alert awake and ready to go always and Stein went on I stopped feeling that energy and it was more of chasing that high and then it was just increasing my dosage every time more and more just to get that feeling. I slowly started noticing a lot of issues with headaches and my heart. And also a huge withdraw effect if I did not take the right amount daily. When I saw that my dependency on caffeine was the point that without it I could not think or function or be myself and I will undergo such headaches and mood swings like I was under Coke or some heavier drug I decided to quit it it took me about a month to feel stable and normal The first week was the toughest and I remember I had a lot of difficulty sleeping resting concentrating thinking and overall just living but as time went on and I persevered I felt better every day and ever since I have not felt the need of caffeine often time as soon as I know something has it I will evade it from time to time I might take a cup of coffee or some drink with caffeine but always in very small portions. I'm so caffeine-free that if I ingest any amount I get the jitters strong diarrhea and huge anxiety and sweating. I have replaced my coffee and coffee intake with a proper meal or a great breakfast and it does the job even better and I feel healthier and better overall. If I can't get breakfast for whatever reason I just do it quick fasting of during the day. Maybe 8:00 to 12 hours and I feel fine alert energetic and ready to go I get home I eat a nice meal and I get some rest.
I wasn’t unable to sleep, and it was negatively impacting my life. I was also having panic attacks. I tried everything possible to fix it, blackout curtains, sound machines, noise blocking earbuds, cooling blanket, weighted blanket… Xanax. I finally tried cutting caffeine out of my life and that worked. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get anything done during the day, so I tried machta tea, and other green teas. They didn’t do anything. So now I’m on half-decaf and half caf, and that seems to do the trick without making me frantic and unable to sleep
@@l21n18 You're definitely wrong on this. Dopamine controls the intestines and if a person is constipated due to low dopamine, either a sugary drink or a caffeinated drink can mean the difference between being constipated and having a bowel movement. There is a reason ADHD patients benefit tremendously from caffeine consumption because they're chronically deficient in dopamine.
I've been caffeine free for 16 months, and I've never been happier. Although, recently I inadvertently had it one morning from a drink I didn't realize had it in and I grabbed it in a quick moment of we have to move, lots of too 55mg, and I had a straight panic/anxiety/couldn't function attack on the highway, and we couldn't stop we had to keep going to get to our destination. Wow, it was quite the trip, one I don't want to repeat. Getting rid of the morning red bull's, coffee's whatever else and just replacing it with hot water satiated my stomach so much more. It also, I believe, helped me to remove alcohol from my life. Once I removed the caffeine, I didn't need the downer in my life to chill out at night from anxiety and stress of the workday. It gave me a clear head, and allowed me to quit my job and focus on starting my own career.
Sunlight generating melatonin is how we're designed to enter restful sleep. Getting away from the cycle of the presence and absence of sunlight is what led to the rise of modern neolithic diseases that allopathy doesn't fix.
@@chickenortheeggphotography caffeine is a stressor just like blue light, that triggers the release of cortisol to prepare to fight, flight or hunt; to meet the day. Melatonin fuels truly restful sleep, but it is countermanded by blue light as it is designed to do at dawn in a proper circadian rhythm. Alcohol was substituting for your lack of melatonin and it was not giving you the restful, regenerative sleep that wellness requires. I'd bet you're still stressing your physiology with blue light at night like everyone else. I hope that was a bit more useful. Don't stop at just removing caffeine and alcohol. Put your eyes and skin in the sun, now that you have more control of your mornings; and keep your eyes and skin dark at night to let melatonin engage to do it's work properly. When I did this, my sleep and wellness changed dramatically and I still drink too much caffeine.
@@michaelswenson6599 Gotcha. Yes, I already do all that. And read before bed, exercise every day. I don't really look at my phone too much before bed. So no, the blue light thing isn't really an issue for me. Ever since changing my lifestyle over the course of a few years things have all but taken care of and cleared themselves up. Alcohol was a familial issue mainly, most everyone in my family history was addicts, except my parents, and it just became a habitual thing because I was hanging out with the wrong crew. I knew i had a problem, but did nothing to fix it. It was a mindset more than a lack of melatonin, trust me when I say that.
@@chickenortheeggphotography the alcohol fills pleasure receptors that were designed to be filled with beta-endorphin made within us while exposed to sunlight. It is the only non addictive opiate. We were designed to be addicted to that which gives us melatonin and many other benefits. Instead we hide from sunlight and self-medicate with addictive substances and behaviors that give us the dopamine hit we crave.
Joe acts shocked that people used to give their kids hard cider for breakfast. It’s actually a very recent (like less than 50 years) thing that kids were not allowed to have alcohol at home. I’m 54 and my very strict Catholic parents let my siblings and I have wine with dinner, beer during barbecues, sips of their beers. It really wasn’t considered a big deal at all. We were never allowed coffee. My Mom definitely considered caffeine to be a worse drug than wine or beer.
I have to start quitting caffeine after a cortisone crisis. It's been hell and I'm only a few days in. But i have noticed I can sleep more now. I had really bad insomnia before so needed more coffee to function during the day. Now I sleep more than 4 hours a night which is amazing for me. I miss coffee but I miss sleep more.
