Tips on how to change the exhaust filter on a Kenmore Progressive canister vacuum model 116.21714. Exhaust filter style number is EF-1 and replacement part number is 20-53295.

ust purchased a used cannister vacuum. Smelled terrible when running. I had cleaned the vac and installed a new bag. No improvement. Ordered & replaced both filters. Works and no nasty smells. Thank You for demonstrating the proper installation.

thanks: out and down .... u don’t want to force the plastic in the wrong direction and break it .... very thorough ... and the arrows on the new filter point out into the room. ✅

Thanks for video. Not only does the manual not tell you how often to change the filter, it doesn't give good info on how to reinsert a new one. My filter nd cover just popped out when the canister rolled down a couple of stairs. That tab on the bottom of the canister that is supposed to grip the stair is not to be trusted.

If I remember right there is a list of part numbers for the filters in the owner's manual.

I cannot budge that back door open for nothing I did what you told to do - push out and down, nothing it looks jammed - I cant it won't come open for nothing any suggestions anyone, anyone?

Help!! Any idea how to remove the exhaust filter cover? Mine has little clips at the bottom and seems to be stuck. I have lubricated the clips with wd40 but it does not appear to want to budge. Any ideas?

No, the filter is made of fabric and can't be washed out, it has to be replaced.

Great video! Do you know what the filter is on the top? I took my vacuum to get fixed and there isn't anything in the small container on the top now. Was there a filter there before?
