The biggest struggle I have is that living in NY using marijuana makes me feel like a criminal. It relieves all my lower back pain so I can work 50 hours a week. It relieves all my inflammation in my knees and ankles from years of sports and injuries so I can work around my home. Stereotypes are so terrible these days. I have a nice home and a nice job and I'm super responsible I just like to toke up with so many reasons including the health benefits. Physical and mental health benefits.
and if you were an alcoholic no one would bother you, sad but true. Good luck Andrew, I am in the UK and it is still illegal here, despite a lot of politicians having massive shares in Medical Cannabis Farms all over Europe.

Thank you for your hard work and dedication to cannabis treatment protocols. I look forward to the future of medical marijuana and following your journey!
excelent talk, but we all know that probhition is not because any danger marihuana causes... it all because money interest of some small group of people..
There is also a history (in the USA) of classifying marijuana as schedule 1 (of no medical value) drug in order to heavily penalize its users (often minority groups, activists, those against the war in Vietnam). Nixon's administration used this as a way to go after some of their enemies.
No actually marijuana is dangerous today because the big corporate growers are using chemicals and pesticides inner-city folks are spraying their product with chemicals such as raid to enhance the effects you need to be very careful you need to grow your own or you need to get it from a qualified source I don’t even trust the dispensaries any longer
The weed in the dispensaries is safe. I own a commercial grow here in crested butte, Colorado. Every single crop is tested for potency, microbials, and pesticides. The dept. of agriculture stopped in, unannounced last week and took samples from each of my five flower rooms. Solely for the purpose of pesticide testing. We don’t use any, at all. And all of the grows I know use none. So, just FYI, (as far as Colorado goes) our products are safe, and you can really trust that.
@D it means that the medical properties in cannabis that are not supposed to be there to begin with are actually patented ... LOL .... our government at work for us
@@carolyniorio4476 the same Government that added Paraquat to weed back in the day ? the same one that has been incarcerating everyone for the plant ? you are going to suddenly trust them and want them as a supplier of those plants ??
You make this world a better place Mara Gordon. Thank you for educating yourself so that you can now educate the world. Even this Wake N Bake gal appreciates your hard work developing dosing guidelines....I am able to help my NOW husband even better than before. PLEASE do another Ted talk as l am sure you barely scratched the surface of what people really need to know in order to effectively treat chronic pain as well as many other medical conditions.
Why hate on marijuana and continue with the pills, like the pills aren’t making things worse? These pills are so harmful to the body. In my opinion Marijuana is WAY better..there’s people who take about 7 pills throughout the day.. what’s wrong with smoking throughout the day?
We have 2 separate America's . One where one American will loose their livelihood,x career, home , 10s of thousands of dollars in legal fines , attorneys fees, even his children , and freedom , by being in possession of the same exact substance that another American by simply living in a separate state divided by an imaginary line can publicly earn a very good living not only possessing but actively cultivating and distributing. And we ask why children behave the way they do, it's the hypocrisy , unequal rules that places them on unlevel ground . What if alcohol was treated the same way. Wake up America !
@@ganondorfdragmire7886 I know man it is fuckng Shame we have been so controlled and manipulated to barely Sheeple our way through the mine fields without exploding into universal ethers ... it took a War from outside of the Country to even prohibit weed to begin with... no amendment no anything in the constitution. basically the plant is not even illegal yet no one knows it

Don't get me wrong I'm a big fan of cannibis. But I thought it could be disruptive to your sleep, like alcohol. You may fall asleep initially but I feel I have trouble getting quality sleep if I ingest too close to bedtime. This is something I struggled coming to terms with. Could be wrong was just surprised to hear you say. But whatever works.
1 to 1.5 hours before bedtime is best for sleep ... that allows the come down to help you sleep ... if using directly before bed ther could be more energy that uplifts and awakens you at the on set ... wait a while as the sedation properties take over and then rest
Yes, I thought the same and learned that depending on what you buy it's slow releasing. So if I want to go to sleep at a reasonable time I will take it as soon as I get off work. It will keep I'm around 9 or 930pm
Lauren H she didn’t mean it like that. Yes I will agree that some people like to take sides with just using CBD or just using THC, but if you only use one cannabinoid specifically, then you’re using it recreationally, with both CBD and THC. CBD has minimal effects on its own, which is why some people prefer it, but if you’re trying to get an actual medical benefit, I’d suggest something with a low dose of both thc and CBD. Most people are scared that “THC makes you high” but that isn’t always the case. Strains with a good, natural ratio of thc:CBD will be the most beneficial in a medicinal setting, whereas straight thc and CBD based strains won’t help very much at all. It all comes down to opinion, but the science is there to support her statement that THC has more validity as a medical cannabinoid.
@@aurorab9727 Agree. THC sure has its own medical applications, promising as a treatment for a number of ailments but to deny/ignore CBD's paramount medical benefits as an anti spasmodic in the treatment of seizures for example, is simply inexplicable and quite frankly not very intellectually honest of her part. Because CBD is indeed of great value.
Just because something is lab tested doesn’t mean it’s actually giving you factual information vice has done a piece about the manipulation of numbers that are suppose to be advertised as THC%as low as half the amount on the label
Cannabis is the only medicine that I ever use now in the last six years,, i’ve replaced alcohol aspirin and all medications with it.. And I am never sick and I eat really good and I sleep good and I have no pain I am 60 years old with arthritis and then have been in some accidents, I drank alcohol for 37 years and smoked cigarettes for 37 years now I don’t do either
It is a plant and food 1st. Food does not require "ingredients", "labels", nor "packaging". QUIT thinking the plant contains THC, and what I'm saying makes sense. We don't label grapes potatoes as Alcohol by Volume due to their use in the Wine-making and Vodka distillation process so we should not label cannabis for the POTENTIAL of intoxication for a Minority use, "getting high". SEE MY POSTS ABOVE. The plant does not contain an intoxicant (THC). The PROCESSED PLANT MATERIAL does. It's time to teach Science & Math to Americans again that they might be able to add things up instead of worshiping Democrats & Republicans.
As a Chemist I have spent most of my career in big pharma, but the last several years working as a consultant in the Cannabis testing field. What most people and lawmakers don't understand the complexities of testing a natural product are immense and for the most part cost prohibitive. Yes we can test for say 5 to 15 Cannabinoids, Terpene profile, and mold. But testing to identify every component in a natural product is immensely cost prohibitive and a fools errand. Not saying that labeling could not be improved, just that the expectation for a Cannabis needs to be different than that of a typical Pharma medicine.
I really Appreciate this still ,but its essential ;) lol to explain the terpenes alot better, maybe I just have a esoteric understanding of plants in generals potency lmao
Yeah, she's saying CBD isn't helpful? That's so messed up and also so completely wrong. Maybe we could let a pharmacologist talk about pharmacology and she can talk about engineering.
I went from 7 pills a day from the VA for service connected disabilities to 1 after I started medically using MJ. No side effects , no long term problem.
Just so people know, cannabis doesn't work for everyone. I know a lot about cannabis and have tried numerous different types but it doesn't do anything positive for me. The feeling is rather unpleasant and it sadly doesn't kill pain for me. The only thing that does is opioids which believe it or not are very difficult for many people to get. I'm one of those people. Haven't been able to get a prescription for any pain killers for about 5 years despite plenty of documentation that my pain is legit. Currently in the US we somehow managed to have a over-prescribed and under-prescribed problem at the same time. I strongly support cannabis because it is amazing for a ton of people but it's not a miracle drug for everyone.
Where is the real research here in this country that can place Dementia in the elderly as part of Cannabis for Medical Marijuana. I am waiting for a doctor's note of my mother's diagnosis to pay a lot of money and hope they will allow it. The office said it had to be terminal because Dementia is not on the list. Yes as one of those who was a "bad girl" in her teen years, I KNOW slow and low is the proper methodology. Enough THC to start the process that only that can do in the brain, and a much higher CBD balance. Also CBD is not the useless. It does actually do things for chronic pain but .... only to a certain level. Beyond that THC and its Entourage is the best option. For People with "reality breaks" which is what memory destruction does, lower THC balanced by the right amount of CBD to blunt the "affectation" allows for the chemistry to happen over time and the per drop vs per mil of "plant chemicals" becomes the KEY to success.
this is probly blocked immediately by interests ... look into Salk institute of THC to reduce brain plaque ... I'd link it and make it easy, it aint easy on youtube anymore.. thank for that whoever is following me here
I am a medical doctor, and I would recommend you from TED to invite Dr. Paul Oh to show the people another side of Cannabis, just to let people also understand the other side of the use of this plant and its properties. He is a kind of specialist in the effects of Cannabis on the human heart and could give you some medical insights about the matter. For example, it was said in this lecture that there are more than 500 substances with medical properties in Cannabis. It's not true. Although there are some substances that can be used as medicine for some illnesses, there are really more than 500 substances other than THC and Cannabidiol in Cannabis, but the majority of these substances are not known by the scientists today, some are really harmful, and this should be known by the person who is thinking about using Cannabis as a treatment. Let me tell you that I'm not against the use of Cannabis as a medicine, but it should be known by the public that science is only scratching the surface of knowledge when we talk about Cannabis and medicine.
Describe one compound in a cannabis plant that is harmful ... what pathways are proven to be harmed ? where in our bodies ? so you know the actives in cannabis are lipids ( LIPIDS!)
You don't need an engineering degree to listen to what your body tells you. Vap .2 grams of flower and then raise or lower the amount based on how you feel.
Some people will just take however much they feel like. It's better if a Dr asks your symptoms and decides when you're at the safest dose for your personal health.
As a Chronic pain suffering using Cannabis illegally in the UK it makes my heart sing to hear Mara Gordon speak such truth from the heart so that we can have a Future where research will prove emphatically what cannabis can do to help ease so many health conditions..... Nobody noticed or believed my epileptic signs/ symptoms as a kid, when i was a teenager I found my own medicine and got on with life.. but then everybody noticed the medicine and labelled me a pothead, leading to me giving it up, which eventually lead to me having 4/5 seizures daily at one point. Then at 32yo i was diagnosed, i lost my job and driving licence and was put on horrible meds that do harm but no good. So i started self medicating again and have reduced my seizures, improved my overall condition, it helps counter the meds side effects, the anxiety, depression and much more. As an added bonus, ive also had asthma all my life and since ive been able to smoke during the day rather than just evenings, now is the best my asthma has been. Ventolin has never lasted more than 3 weeks, suddenly i havent used it in over a year. Even though I am now a registered medical user, it's not available on prescription, i still have to find my own supply.. While the people who only see a pothead enjoy their alcohol and even get it delivered to their door during a pandemic. 😄 madness.
Yea I don't get it helps we sleep digestive problems and calms me down and I enjoy the high feeling like it's perfect for me I go to the gym high socialise high and do boxing high the only like about is when I run out all my symptoms and problems that smoking helps with get ten times worse
See the big huge problem that is being hugely ignored is the fact that a lot of young people in the getto’s were the pharmacist and they were wise beyond there years. including my brother that started getting locked up as a young kid, because he had a rough life. So he would sale weed to have food clothing etc. and now you have these scholars saying it’s medicine. I’m glad you just discovered but you remember Bob Marley has been telling you and the getto has been telling you for ever.
Preach. Everytime the ghetto tries to profit from something and America can't find a way to profit from then they lock you up. Now that America is catching up and can profit from. Weed they all in and it's no problem .they found a way to profit n control!
Ya, I work in the industry, medical usage is complex. Ask 2 people get 3 opinions, ask what people like and why and there goes your day.... we have sheets people fill out when we are testing new types and more than a few flipped over the page and continued on the back.. Having said that- here's a funny story; I was in a meeting that went like this: Problem: people are getting stoned on their breaks. Answer: We can't expect people to be not stoned (sober, I think is the word) at work so don't smoke in front of the cameras (everything is videoed) and if its possible, managers should not get stoned with the workers. And most importantly don't pass around pre rolls (joints) as that spreads colds ( we had that happen)... As an older guy who is in upper management - I can't be stoned and make good decisions (I seem to be nearly alone in that thought) so I found the whole thing funny, but having coworkers stoned on weed is far better than alcohol or anything else.
SO WHAT R WE SUPPOSED TO DO IN STATES WHERE ITS NOT LEGAL JUST SUFFER OR BE HOOKED ON OUR ONLY OPTION OPIATES IF WE WANNA KEEP OUR JOBS AND STAY OUT OF JAIL ITS TRULY NOT RIGHT THAT PEOPLE IN 1 STATE OVER R BENEFITTING FROM CANNABIS BUT I CANT SO I HAVE TO BE ADDICTED TO OPIATES BECAUSE I HAVE SEVERE PAIN
Age 18 I just decided to quit pot. I made it 6 months. Finally I had a tooth that needed pulling and people know tooth pain is the WORST in the world. Out of the blue my sister recommended try weed for the pain. We went on a bowl ride and I couldnt believe how amazed I was that the pain was completely gone, when that same day I was literally biting into a pillow and crying and screaming at the top of my lungs. Weed is more than just getting high and now I see the truth
This was one of the best talks regarding cannabis I've heard done on a public stage. Of course, there are a few things I might contend, I do agree with nearly everything she said.
Within the first 45sec u described my life years ago! I was in sssoo much back pain n neuropathy from having MS. I was miserable and still in pain. Medical cannabis saved me from all those pills(bad side effects n addiction). It's medically legal here in PA but we're not allowed to grow it🙄 it needs to be legalized ASAP
Just keep kidding yourselves on this one. Have a look at things like yoga and teach yourself to breath deeply. It will take you a while but you won't need Weed to settle down.
I’m a brain tumor patient with tons of chronic pains after 50+ successful surgeries, and have plenty of chronic pains, all of which medical take care of. I couldn’t recommend this as a medicine enough.
Also, along with pain relief, medical also treats my epilepsy, so I don’t need to take what I now realize were effective anticonvulsants, but had loads of undesirable side effects.
maybe it’s the larger medical industry that needs to change not cannabis. We already know how misleading doses are for pharmaceuticals. Every person responds to any given chemical differently and it crucial to recognize this.
I love your direction. As an educated individual in general holding a masters in fine art, Have taught at graduate level for years, I'm an international touring songwriter, father.. You have the perfect perspective we need, but at the middle you divide things by assuming that there is no mind benefit from THC... OMG There is a reason legendary, historic figure of thought and originality have gravitated to it and it's not just for health. There is something VERY useful for the creative mind that must not be stigmatized even further please. If the discourse follows your mindset then pot help us all. That us the same stereotypical B.S we have all lived with. Great discussions need to be made from all fronts and artists/musicians/creators should be first! Just ask
Why BROWNIES? There are millions of foods you mix cannabis into, and we hear about brownies over and over again. Why? It was a fad around 1967, and there was a movie with a scene that included cannabis in brownies. So for 50-something years we have been hearing about cannabis in brownies. This suggests to me that people who are involved with cannabis lack imagination, creativity, and inventiveness. For me, this doesn't make the idea of trying cannabis for pain seem very promising. Plus this is all so experimental. We know what we can expect from opium poppies, pro and con, from thousands of years of collected information. Opium poppies were actually one of the very first plants known to be moved from the wild, into agriculture, I think very likely both for the drugging effects of the fruit juice of the poppy fruit, and from the nutritive value of the seeds inside the poppy fruit. Yes there are shortcomings to poppy use, but we know what they are, and we also know that people who have a phobia or cultural aversion to poppy use, have exaggerated the shortcomings of the poppy and minimized the useful aspects of the poppy.
kinda sad how half the information she says about THC is based on false information. 30mg/mL sticker on that bottle is most likely false. any cannabis products that sell rn are around 90 - 95 % concentration of THC. (Other than that most things i agree with) however, I was also expecting her to mention risks of using cannabis, but eh, people should do their own research.
When I was a nervous anxious filled 14 year old. Fighting with my mother in her kitchen she yelled " you are just medicating yourself. My life became quite the story, traveling martial artist. Gangs. Prison. Some how got a good education in process. I'm 46 now. Home 8 years. Finally I'm not a criminal. To top it off. Very soon starting a buisness that Will have bbq sauce, soy sauce etc. Snacks and beverage infused for dosing in the day to day. Soon to bring in the mycelium. Excellent and informed video. I'm humbled knowing what is in front of me.
I also have chronic pain, I was really upset when the SC bill got shot down for medical cannabis. Can't wait to move back to GA or FL. :( South Carolina sucks!
I knew Mara personally years ago, she sold her fellow patients out for AUMA. Every medical state that legalizes recreational will always throw medical marijuana patients under the bus, California is no exception, and Mara didn't care.
It's a dilemma between a little suffering with diseases versus people high with cannabis committing more crimes, road accidents, kids falling out of school. US has been experimentation ground at cost of its people in the name of innovation. Japan still does import GMO food from US and it will watch a full generation for effects.
Cool talk but don't frget there are other risks with the use of cannabis, like memory loss, the triggering of some underlying genetic condition or even (in some extreme cases) a substance abuse disorder, specially when you are takin a drug to medicate against a negative psychoaffective state. And avoid mixing it with other drugs too.
My mom has been through cancer twice . One when she was younger now she has it again. The chemo drugs make you so sick, anxiety, and just overall ruins you. I told her to ask her cancer doctor about marijuana and he said there is no benefits to it . I told her to try marijuana or cbd but she is so stubborn and won't try it. You can't convince her to try it. I know it could change her life for the better
Give her a gummy or cannabis infused butter spread on toast. I’m amazed a doctor treating a cancer patient would not be more open minded. There is nothing to lose by try cannabis.
This is what bothers me 4:49, what is wrong with getting high, what is wrong at all?, imho I do not even care about that opinion though, but doctors should look for proper dose, frequency and consumption form in order to avoid cognition related issues in the long term, e.g 35 mg weed edible once a week or every other week, that is all we want to know. I have consumed weed in edible form for a while, only on weekends, and my life improved dramatically, however, when I started smoking daily my memory started to fail. Now, I'm clean for about 4 months, and I feel completely OK again, though I do not want to quit entirely, because that high, that recreational usage was very important for me. If they could only stop stigmatizing the herb so much and start doing some real studies, they could make this way SAFER for all of us. By the way, when I was consuming in edible form once a week, I do not recall any effect in my memory, I was feeling incredible.
Sucks having to choose between mental/physical health and trying to not fail a drug test to keep a job. Feel like a criminal even though me and many others just want to feel okay (healthy).
I just sit and laugh at them , oh i do feel pity , how can u be so more naive ? Are u people really the intelligent being on earth??? A simple green harmless dear plant, people spend their life's fortune just to get a good sleep at night, time to wake up...
Very hard to get in Australia and expensive and lots of paperwork my doctors knew nothing about it and looked at me as if I was a drug addiction taken so many different drug s prescribed by them for 8 years I thought they were going to know all about it I have ptsd I have my first visit with a doctor that will prescribe this soon i am hoping to get well soon
I know a good amount on this subject but we need to make a change society blinds people from the real truths and people don’t even realize how much of sheep they are something needs to change

Some good information here but it goes against the grain of what others say in particular to the Cannabinoids. Unfortunately, there are a few errors with this including the drops per ml etc.
