When it was first shown the director was brought up on charges, which were latter dropped when it was proven that no one died during production. It wasn't that they used real blood, it is the real animal deaths that made the human deaths seem all the more real.

NO. The acting during that sequence was done that way ENTIRELY on purpose. The character is essentially a sadist and literally enjoys seeing the body, that's why he's smirking at it. That's also why the camera man says, "Alan, we're shooting": it's because they wanted a "genuine" reaction for their documentary. The acting in this film is impeccable, and I HIGHLY suggest you guys watch it.

Yeah that scene is acted this way for a reason. Pretty good movie overall.

Also, fun fact, the ‘found footage’ style of shooting and story structure in the film was the very first of its kind, ultimately INVENTING a new genre of film for the beginning of the 21st century (The Blair Witch Project) and the decades to come.

After shooting a pig, one man messed up his lines because he wasn't emotionally ready for its squeals of agony; and after killing a turtle, another actor straight up started weeping (for good reason) It's partially about the inhumane treatment of animals, but also the mental anguish the actors went through Source - IMDB

They got them what they needed.

Very well said, the cannibal and gore elements throughout the film are just outlandish enough to throw you into a fantasy world when watching, however when real animals are killed and such it really takes you back into the film and the real world consequences that came with making it.

I felt bad for her the most in the film, aside from the brutalized natives.

I think that after Alan and Jack raped the native girl, they then found a thick slab of balsa wood, sharpened the tip, and impaled her on it and then acted as if the Yanamomo had done it for her virginity being taken. Think about it. They recorded everything else they saw, so why would they leave out a scene like that? Because they did it themselves. That look Faye gives Alan is barely concealed rage of having witnessed all of that.

Technically all the animals killed were eaten (except snake and spider). And none of them were endangered or protected species. The deaths were quick and painless too. It is def still upsetting to see, but it's not like they tortured and wasted a bunch of rare meat creatures.
