Hi there, from Florida ☀️ Would love to check out this canning guide! I joined the newsletter so hopefully I’ll be able to grab the canning guide when it’s available again! - Blessings 🙏🏻
I grew up in a family where boys had to learn cooking and cleaning right beside the girls, and the girls had to learn to drive tractors and operate tools right beside the boys. The funny thing was, the girls once noticed that the boys were being tasked with more of the cleaning chores than the girls on those days, and the answer was genius, it's because they'll learn to make less of a mess if they have to clean up the that mess. Some families didn't agree with these tactics, but our family produced men that could take care of their children if something happened to their wives, and wives that could run the farm if something happened to their husbands.
That’s exactly how my Mom raised us 5 kids. We all did the housework and outside work. Didn’t matter if I was a girl . If I had trouble, my brothers would come and help, but by the time we all grew and left home, not one of us had trouble living in our homes. And the women who married my brothers thanked my Mom for raising them that way. They couldn’t believe how they did laundry or take care of cleaning and garbage…..my brothers are helpmates….
I (Sandy) absolutely love your tips and all of your recipes. Love it. Love the love for nature. My husband and I have decided to return to a live on land and just sold our sailing yacht. On the sailing yacht I canned food, made pizza and baked bread with my own sourdough. We will move into our house in Greece in July. I will return to a life where I grow my own food, even own olive oil with 35 olive trees. I absolutely share your passion. When we were sailing the oceans for 3 years and I could not have a garden you were my highlight of the week. Thank you so much for everything you are: authentic, funny, with a love for life and nature.
When you get moved in to your new home in Greece start a RU-vid channel and do videos from there on olive oil making, and how gardening is done there. All regions of the world are so different in their seasons and and what you can grow
What a marvelous life you two have! I love boating and sailing too. I hope all is well, and your dreams are all coming true in Greece…👋🏻😄 Michigan, USA
I feel Dan gained another level of respect for what you do during this canning. He seemed to be surprised at the technical requirements for a good outcome. Bless him , he seems to be a man in a million.
My hubby has no interest in canning but he is always so pleased and impressed when our counter top is full of jars, and that makes me feel happy. He has also taken a liking to making homemade jerky which I think is pretty cool and he's very handy when a chicken needs to be turned into broth. Homesteading harmony. 💕💕
Although I love canning anytime, one of my favorite canning weekends was when my husband helped me can all day and all night. We watched the sunrise from the front porch after finishing our last canner loads. It was wonderful quality time. He really enjoyed learning how to can. He likes not doing it as much as me but he will do it if I need him. That’s a wonderful husband!
I find it delightful that your husband is learning to can. I feel the only way to be sustainable is that every one can cook, clean, preserve, garden, and animal husbandry and processing. My husband is coming up to speed with the garden and livestock. Thank you for sharing and being an inspiration.
Love the free canning resource. I am 78 years old and still can jams, fruit and some vegetables. I have just started canning home made bacon and beans. A pressure canner is just not in my budget but I would have one in a heart beat if I could. Both times I've done the bacon and beans I have cooked then did 3.5 hours water bath. I know it isn't acceptable these days but it is all I have! I do keep my finished jars of beans in a spare fridge. We do what we can
@BethMiliken-hz4gn, please take the time & check out the pricing of the P/C. It is a great price. You can also buy things on time. Talk to them about your needs; I think they can help you get started. Good Luck
It’s very acceptable to waterbath in Europe, as it’s all we have historically done. In U.K., it’s very hard to get a pressure canner, without exporting one (I think one or two importers are now bringing them over but costs are ridiculous). I know the Amish also waterbath safely. My understanding is the US recommend pressure canning as the safe thing to do because they have not invested in testing water canning efficacy, and when you want to sell expensive canners, why would you?
Loved seeing you and Dan in the kitchen together. I think it’s great that he’s interested in learning how to pressure can, it’d be nice if more men showed interest.
I add about an inch of water under the insert in my electric roaster, and this also keeps any food you're cooking from scortching. I also save any old socks that get holes in the toes. I wash them and slide jars into each one to give protection in the freezer. I also do this when we go camping, so jars can be next to each other and not break. Great content!! Dan is right at home in the kitchen!!
I saw a comment on another channel from someone who worked at the roaster factory and they said it is not recommended to put water under the liner. The person was pretty adamant about it. I’m not sure why, maybe the steam could get in between the layers of metal and mess up the element? Great idea about the socks on the jars! Thanks.
Look how fast your channel is growing. Your great personality, cooking skills, care for your animals, amazing gardening skills, love of your family and your land are so envious and to us, so worth all the hard work. Thanks, Chelsea!😍🇨🇦
Thank you so much for sharing the Free Canning Guide with us! I loved watching you and Dan can together. It is so nice to see families working together. I appreciate you showing us the For Jars Canner and giving your opinion on using it. So happy that your meat canning day was a success!!
I love the little dance you did when Dan moved (while adding the salt) so you could continue to see the camera :) It is those little, fun, unscripted moments that make your channel feel real 😄
No matter how much I have to do I find canning is such good therapy. Just because I am worn out afterwards it doesn't matter. What a problem to have in this crazy world. My husband was a mechanic also (like Dan) until he got hurt. You two talk like we do when he helps me with something, it's either a car part or it's not! So funny!!!
My Mom did some canning when I was a kid. I am in my 60's and I never have and never will do it myself. HOWEVER, I found your tutorial today very enjoyable, educational, and entertaining. You are so knowledgeable and genuine and a pleasure to watch - whatever the topic. Dan too!
Thank you for providing the canning book to us!! I am a fairly new and nervous canner.....and having all the information in one place, given by someone who knows what they are doing (you!) will help greatly with my confidence. I also bought a steam canner (boy it saves a ton of time!) based on your channel....who knew there was an alternative to waiting, what seemed like forever, for water to boil in those big pots! New pressure canner user too - thanks to you! 😊I absolutely love how you and Dan work so well together and I am so excited for you both and all the new adventures on the farm!!
I have been canning for I don’t know how long , I miss the old lids from years ago, never had fail sealed. I can upwards 1000 a year and inevitably I have a few fails, Last year I has fails with Food for jars , I contacted just for educational and they were so helpful and sent me so many new lids . I love my pressure canner . New Gas stove last year and love it .
I absolutely love watching your videos, especially the ones with you and Dan you guys just vibe together so well and are about the cutest couple I’ve ever seen
My aunts in Virginia did lots of canning; I was fortunate to be part of the process each Summer. I 💚 canned green beans, beef, sausage & tomatoes. I 💜 my heritage!
I rarely involved my husband in freezing/canning - we both participated in the family work as kids. However, we did involve our kids, as that's how they learned 'how' as well as appreciated the foods throughout the years(s).
It was fun watching you and Dan canning. He seems like a one in a million kind of guy, not afraid to be in the kitchen learning something new. Bless you both! ❤️
I moved 6 years ago and went from a natural gas stove to a propane stove. It is a little more difficult to regulate temperature but not a lot. I think each set up is different and it is just about learning your individual stove. Don’t let it discourage anyone from canning.
Thanks so much for the free canning guide. How kind that you are so generous with your hard earned wisdom. I am a newbie at canning and I love reading all about it.
I couldn't download the canning guide fast enough! I've been wanting to get started canning but have no idea what I'm doing. I watch you religiously and you inspire me to garden and do food preservation. Thank you so much for providing us with this guide!
Chelsea, I downloaded your new guide today, it was BRILLIANT! You did such a great job touching on all of the high points of canning. So great for anyone that wants to get started and learn. Thank you! I'm basically a master canner, but I am really looking forward to making that pepper jelly, it sounds amazing!
Love this so much! You guys working together is awesome. Chelsea you are a fabulous teacher. You give so much encouragement that takes the fear out of pressure canning. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your lives. It’s such a gift to all of us! 💕💕💕💕
Wonderful video! Nice to see Dan with you in the kitchen. There is a lot of timing, have every step prepared ahead of time, and I can't help but think that Dan has an appreciated view of the many, many hours you spend in the kitchen to feed your family with good nutritious food~! Bless Your Family💚💛💙💗
Thank you so much Chelsea for the time and effort you put into making the canning guide. Especially sharing it for free! What a beautiful gift! It was wonderful to see Dan in the kitchen with you. You are an amazing couple with so much knowledge and great work ethics. Thank you again for teaching us. 😊
Greatest tips for canning, I'm looking at different pressure cookers right now and your opinion means a great deal thank you. You have the most beautiful smile when you look at your husband. I think that is awesome.
Extreme temperature changes can cause jars to burst. When I was a youngun I got a huge shard of glass embedded in my leg from a jar bursting after being removed from the canner into a really cool house.
Your husband is awesome... Love how he jumps in and does things we you that makes your heart happy.. Good Job Dan... Thank you for teaching this I am terrified and feel what is the point for party of two but I really want to try.
Great to see Dan learning & helping out. You two work so well together! Thanks for sharing your perspective Dan, & thanks for continuing to teach, Chelsea! Blessings to all 🤗🇨🇦
We love canned pork. Only I raw pack because it cooks in its own juices. I don’t allow the fat into the jars. It’s so good that it’s wonderful even right out of the jar cold on a sandwich with a good mustard. It just melts in your mouth.
Thanks Chelsea! Dan is a great student and he listens! Could I make a suggestion? Move the mixer out of the way when you're doing a project like this. It'll give you more work space and also not get splattered next to the canners. Can't wait for the next one!
I love my ForJars canner!! Hubby got me one for Christmas! I can use it on my glass-top stove inside the house. My canning kitchen is outside. Now I can have pressure canners going in both places at the same time!!
What a nice video. I love seeing you two working together. The pork is such a covenant dinner item. The lard looked beautiful. Thank you so much for the canning guide too. Also puppers are going to love them scraps.
This is so timely...I've really felt compelled in the last month to start canning meats and bone broths as well as the veggies I grow. (Which isn't a lot, but canning meat or vegetables found on sale is a very smart preparation--in more ways than one!--that many of us can do.) Thank you for the guide!!
Dan is so cute helping you filling those jars. Great teamwork but also great to see that a 'newbe' is getting thought how to. Seeing this is just so good to teach people. Now waiting for a video of Dan teaching you something that is his normal and you being new to it :) I love you guys together in video's, you are so good around eachother.
So happy about the canning guide- this is our first year canning (we usually freeze all our garden produce- which is about 1/4 acre- even though we have a huge chest freezer(like the ones you have on your porch) we also have a 3 one that are little smaller- my grands want to learn to can- so we will be following your guide and also the ball books- wish us luck
So great to see Dan. I love canning. Meat is so easy to can. When you get over the intimidation it's so easy and you think why was I so intimidated. Great video Chelsea. I tyvm.
Thank you for your canning resource pdf. It’s so beautiful. You are so talented and knowledgeable, plus to put this together so beautifully is incredible.
I love that you are such an expert canner! I can a lot compared to most people which doesn’t say much lol. It’s just my husband and I so I am always giving stuff away. I love trying new recipes too.
To help prevent siphoning further, I cover my jars with a towel for about a quarter of an hour. The jars will begin to seal under the towel. When I remove the towel they will continue to seal.
I can't wait to read your canning guide! 🥰 Your videos are such a pleasure to watch. I'm always smiling. 😃 With you and Becky from Acre Homestead I've learnt the basics and started canning myself. I love your recipes and my family loves my canning. You seem like a really lovely person, I just love to spend some time of the day with you. 🥰
THANK YOU, CHELSEA & DAN...AN EXCELLENT AND THOROUGH TUTORIAL THAT RESULTED IN AN ABUNDANCE OF PRESERVES FOR YOUR PANTRY. IT'S ALWAYS NICE TO SEE YOU WORKING TOGETHER. 😊 I HAVE PRESTO PRESSURE CANNERS, AS WELL AS AN ALL AMERICAN, BUT THAT 'FOR JARS' CANNER LOOKS LIKE A NICE ONE SO I'M GOING TO LOOK INTO ADDING IT TO MY CANNING ADVENTURES. THANKS AGAIN. AND, THANK YOU FOR THE CANNING GUIDE 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thank you for the free canning guide. I appreciate it. I sincerely enjoyed your video. I'm still nervous about pressure canning, but I did take notes from this video and also saved it. From north MS take care, stay safe, love your vidoes, God bless
Thank you Chelsea, I’ve been only canning for almost 2 years with the electric presto canner just to learn the basics. I’ve recently bought a stove top canner (graduated) lol I can’t wait to get started! Thank you for the download, it’s going to be a huge help getting started. Nice to see Dan working side by side with you 🌺
Chelsea, the cool feature on the ForJars funnels that you were using is that the bottom rim (the part in the jar) is notched to show you the level for the head space!!! It's the feature I purchased the set for!!! I LOVE IT!
My daughter is getting my canning bug, I hope to be able to find her an AA Canner. She also wants a dehydrator , their home has Peach and Cherry trees on it . She canned peaches for the first time last year . I did 15 quarts of pitted Cherries last year and will do 2x as much as this year .
