When I was young, when my mom would make jelly, she would use a pair of knee high nylons well washed with vinegar to strain the fruit. The nylons would expand to get all the fruit in one squeezing making less mess, but there was always a mess because I was there.

For the budget stricken, hanging a jelly bag to a cupboard doorknob over a bowl works too. Just, ya know, don’t put it on a cupboard you’re always into cause you’ll have juice drippings everywhere.

Thank you for the tip about leaving a little leaf on the stock. Most of the time I pick my rhubarb right when I want to cook it but, if I ever need to harvest it ahead of time, I'm glad to know this tip.

I literally could not resist taking you a long. This is the best juice I’ve ever made and that is hands-down, my favorite. I will find a way to do it a little bit easier if I can but if not, I’ll do it the long way. It was a little bit time-consuming, but so worth the process.

I no longer have a rhubarb plant. It didn't come back this year. I bought some from the grocery store and used my thrive dehydrated strawberry's. I made a strawberry rhubarb bar with a crumble. Excellent and I suggest this dessert.

Juice looks so yummy. Grapefruit is high in vitamin K and does mess with a lot of different medications. I love grapefruit too but cannot have it for the same reasons.

Clip clothes pins for straining bags. my mother used to use the broom handle to tie her straining bag to and letr it drip all day.

I have some in the cupboard. Haven't tried it yet. Probably will tomorrow since I just plucked my rhubarb down and have lots of it fresh and in the freezer. Going to make more of this juice. Come to think of it...I have tried it. I made Popsicles with it and they're GONE!!!

The juice looks beautiful, I hate those jelly bags, did the same thing to me, finally I lined a big collander with several layers of cheesecloth over a big pot and just let it go overnight, I like you was doing a triple batch but of concord grapes, they aren't made for large batches. Bet that would make a good jelly. Nice canning info on what to do and what you shouldn't do.

Thanks for the tip about leaving the leaf on. I have never tried to store it in the fridge.. I've seen this recipe from Pike Creek too so next picking I'm going to try it to see if hubby will like it. I just put your pineapple/habenero jelly pork roast in the slow cooker, can't wait to taste it! As a thank you for all you share, I'd like to suggest looking up the health benefits of castor oil. It started popping in to my life everywhere all of a sudden so I did the research and I'm totally flabbergasted at the benefits of one oil. Queen of Thrones owner is my favorite to listen to so far.

My first 7 pints are in the canner RIGHT NOW. This appealed to me because of hubs being on statins. I had 24 cups of rhubarb this batch..... Can't wait !

WELL CRAP! I took them out....SO beautiful....and then REALIZED I am near 3000 FEET in elevation..... CRAP!!! So, off with the sealed, lids....and reprocess for 20 minutes. GRRRRRRRRRRR....and not a DROP in the water.............argh!!!!!

I love rhubarb slush without alcohol. Do you think I could can that and then open and freeze in plastic for use. I hate taking up room in freezer for long term use (winter stock). I love my juice steamer for extracting the juices.

Well, I’m just gonna say they don’t have to be just memories. Rhubarb is still such a great plan to have in your yard. It’s beautiful, and it provides food and sustenance for the family when fruit is not an abundance for whatever reason you’ll always have rhubarb.

I just makes it 50-50 with water or club soda and drink it. You could make summer cocktails or margaritas with it it’s just delicious very refreshing.

i know this video is a year old, but i have a question: why does the viscosity of the concentrate dictate the size of the jar being used? why pint rather than quart? 98% of my jars are quarts......

I would make a rhubarb pineapple breakfast drink. It was ready to drink. One of my grandma recipes and we did it in qts. Maybe not safe as you have told us. I’m 74 so you know this was a old recipe.

I watched you did of a garden tour, and you showed you rhubarb plants, you might want to give them more space, my rhubarb is huge I guess its 20years old now.

Yeah, I dug down and made sure that I wasn’t interrupting any of the root stock. Most rhubarb root stock goes straight down so other than giving the leaves plenty a room you really don’t need that much room for rhubarb, amazingly enough if you look at most peoples rug patches they’re at least that close together They’re good 3 feet apart.

You are one of the Canning Guru’s I follow on RU-vid. So I thought maybe you could show me how to can this. I love it but it’s expensive here. I got it from this lady who is also very good at what she does. But the way she canned this I think it all had to go in the fridge. If you could give me some pointers I would be grateful. Giardiniera On Buon-A-Petitti 6 qt canning jars and lids 4 cups white vinegar 8 cup water 8 tsp salt 4 tsp sugar 1 cauliflower head, large bite sized 6 assorted color bell peppers, 1-1/2 inch 5-6 celery ribs, remove strings, 1/2 inch 4-5 carrots, peeled, 1/2 inch 1 lg white onion, sliced, cut slices in half 6 garlic cloves, halved 6+2 bay leaves Black pepper corns Prep all vegetables. Keep each vegetable separate. Can also add fresh green beans. Combine white vinegar, water, salt, sugar and 2 bay leaves. Bring to a rolling boil. Fill jars with assorted vegetables in layers. In center of jar add bay leaf, 1/2 garlic clove and 5 peppercorns. Then another layer of vegetables followed by 1/2 garlic cloves, 5 peppercorns. Add hot syrup to jars, seal jars and set aside. This is her recipe at Buon-A-Pettiti, but the process left me confused. Thank you so much.
