They are, except instead just fill the ball with powdered burning solution with a fuse. The gas would evaporate if stored, or just splash everywhere if used after soaking, ask me how I know.
it'd be pretty interesting to see what a cannon would do to engine blocks. Also, i didn't think that the bouncy ball would carry that much energy. The impact looked pretty hectic
Bro as a pistol building enthusiast I can confidently state that you capture the required essence to grab people across the whole b00m community. I'm glad i found you.
Hey Jonathan, I really like the slow motion on the target and I thought that would be cool if we could see a slow mo facing the cannon getting to watch the projectile flying out the barrel. Obviously not directly in front of the cannon lol.
I never really noticed this at first but that opening of "...and this is my cannon." like it's just an ordinary everyday thing. No different from someone saying it's their dog or cat. I love that. Now I want a cannon... Also, after watching the marble go through it, the PLA is too rigid (obviously) however if you did a PLA, TPU laminate that might disperse the energy. Also, with that printed tank round Accords across the land should live in phear!
It was interesting how the pieces came apart, presumably along the lines of whatever internal lattice the pieces had, as looked like just diagonal structure inside? If so, could be interesting to see a more interwoven, maybe hexagonal, pattern for the structure so it can try to hold together a bit more. Still lots of fun to see, thank you 🙂
A little suggestion to make aiming a bit easier and more precise, make a barrel plug (something big enough to go down the bore but have a lip so it doesn't full sink in) then drill out the center and mount a laser point in the drilled out spot. Then just a matter of turning the laser pointer on and adjusting the cannon's aim.
Have you ever considered 3D printing a laser sight attachment for the cannon? Or a dummy cannon plug with a laser inside that you could insert then remove after aiming
That’s actually what we used to use! The barrel plug laser! We’ve shot it out a few times as we forgot to take it out. It’s in a few videos. We’ve got a red dot now!
This channel is great! Always interesting and to the point. No fluff no guff. Top 5 of all the channels I follow for sure. I see a new video I watch it first over anything else.
@@TheCannoneer I have a bunch of stuff I want to send for testing just have to get some spare time in my shop to finish up. Have a home made plate finished to test and some tungsten carbide composite rounds to build out of some rock drill teeth.
You may like to know, aluminum is amazing at stopping handgun ammunition… and in conjunction with other materials does okay with some rifle ammo. It kind of absorbs the energy “catching” the bullets similar to how some of the UHMWP armor works.
I can see that. I’d imagine it splats and kind of just absorbs things like the lead plate TAOFLEDERMAUS uses. We just got a giant batch of lead so I’ll be making one of those too hopefully soon!
Hey Jonathan love the Canon. Maybe the rounds are drifting using a bore cider and then attaching a simple rifle type sight to see if that thing could go pinpoint. Keep blasting buddy
@TheCannoneer I'm the same way! We get alot of CH-53's and CH-47's here in Virginia so thankfully I have plenty of warning get outside, as loud as they are. I love the channel!!!!
@@TR-Mead I've only seen one super stallion over that I can remember but we do get the ch-47's from time to time. I'm jealous of your fighter jets up in Virginia though if you live near the base!
I drew up a simple APFSDS round but then I remembered the USA uses imperial instead of metric 😅 I can send you the design anyway if you like but its basically a down-scaled 105mm DM-23 shell, at least thats what I used as a reference
I use metric but my dad’s an imperial guy. Metric is sooo much more precise and easier to understand lol. But sure! Send it on if you’d like to! I’ll see what I can do with it!
pla is too brittle, you couldve tried hdpe and then sinter it in an oven under pressure to increase layer adhesion and density then maybe it couldve worked somewhat better
Pla+/pro like esun or polymaker is much more malleable and bonds to itsepf better. it might work better. ive also heard of TPU being used for self healing targets
Note to self 3d printed armor is a lousy idea, except for cosplay or something. Also, never stand in front of a cannon even if it looks small. Small cannon=big boom.
Oh I’ve got some of those!! I forget about all the different versions of bouncy balls. We’ve done the smaller ones before and I bet they would be great for crowd dispersal.
Right? I thought for sure it would at least stop a bouncy ball! Hopefully PCB way will be interested in sponsoring us again and I can try out a TPU plate. I think that might be a bit better!
Taofledermaus did some testing on PCB that was used as armor from small arms fire in Hong Kong. I wonder how much of that it would take to stop a lead cannonball. Totally unfeasible to test but a fun thought experiment. Do you know if something like a Coke or Pepsi bottle would fit the barrel? There might be potential to use those as a carrier for different media that otherwise wouldn't work like sand or something. Just occurred to me while typing.
@@knivesiguess I figured this might stop a small caliber handgun but in no way a cannon! Sadly no, they are just a bit too big but we just found a new canister set up that might work better than what we've been using. Hopefully we can get some more plates and test out how many it takes if PCB wants to sponsor us again or that TPU plate.
Oh yeah! We’ve got a full episode of just playing with those too. We’re about to get a lathe so I hope to be able to make some metal ones here soonish.
I don’t know!! I don’t really want “firearms” as much as I love them on the channel since RU-vid is so weird about them so hopefully someone will want to test that!
Hey man, you should collaborate with taofledermaus' channel. He has a bunch of people that send him ammo, and he may be willing to give you a shout out. He has a ton of followers.and he receives a lot of views. Cool guy, he'd support what you do!
First time viewer here, hi. But but but president potato brain Biden said we can't have cannons... LOL I hope this channel is going to be fun to watch. Edit: I'll be back for more.👍
