I only rode Vortex at Kings Island in 2017 my first time at the park and when it was announced it was being torn down I was so sad I’m still pretty sad
@@ThrillsofColdplay Moved to Indianapolis when I was 10 in 1990. Beast was my first roller coaster and Vortex was my first second ever and first steel one. Even was on it in 93' or so during a pop-up thunderstorm. Still have the picture where I was laughing and you could see the girls behind me bawling from the hail. 😂😂😂
I remember riding it the year it opened. I was absolutely terrified about riding my first “upside down” coaster. After waiting for what seemed like hours, I came off of it both terrified and mesmerized, then got right back in line to do it again. Although today I recognize that it isn’t a good coaster by any means, it has always had a place of nostalgia in my heart. RIP to a legend.
Same here, I feel so terrible that I did not realize it was gone until 2022, without this coaster I would probably still be scared of all inverting coasters
I know it’s rough and a clone but it’s an iconic ride at this park. And it’s not like the park has that many coasters so the loss of Corkscrew will definitely be a detriment.
Though Canobie is my home park, the only time I actually rode the Corkscrew was about ten years ago, and it was because, with Untamed going up, I figured they were going to rip it out pretty soon! It's stuck around longer than I expected. I didn't actually bash my head but I remember coming off of it feeling kind of unsteady. After Untamed started running, I never saw any reason to ride the Corkscrew if I could just go on Untamed instead. Until recently Untamed had a single-rider line so it was always effectively a walk-on for me. I remember that when they were repainting the Corkscrew to the current color scheme, there was a period when it was running with half of it painted yellow and black, and the other half in blue/green/white. It was the most hideous roller coaster I've ever seen.
Looks like that's a credit I won't ever get. On my day at Michigan's Adventure, their simple Corkscrew model rode fairly smooth throughout. I loved the airtime on the drop. The fact that I could be torn away from their 2 great woodies to get a few extra rides on Corkscrew says something.
It would be cool to see if they could expand the water park into Corkscrews plot but left just enough room to have a gravity group family wooden coaster snake along the perimeter in an out-and-back style layout. Sort of like how Kentucky Flyer hugs the backside of Kentucky Kingdom's lazy river.
Wow, I feel kinda lucky to have ridden it for my first and seemingly only time back in August of 2020. Nice historic ride but its removal does make sense.
Silverwood in Idaho still owns and operates the original Corkscrew that was installed at Knott's Berry Farm (which has an ACE plaque at the ride entrance showing its history as the first modern ride with an inversion.) Taking a look at RCDB it looks like even if this one closes there are still 8 other Corkscrews still operating, plus five more Looping Corkscrews (similar layout plus a vertical loop after the lift hill). All but a handful of the operating ones have been relocated at least once, and most reside in small parks.
Aww! That's so sad! I went here every September and rode this at least 5 times per visit! I loved marathoning this and it was my first ever coaster I rode to go upside down. I'll miss this so much!
I hope so. I’d personally like a roller coaster, maybe an RMC Raptor if possible? But it’ll most likely be a waterpark expansion. I’m still sad to see this go.
Yep, they are most likely going to remove it sometime in the future. I work at the park and people mainly say they are going to replace it with a waterpark expansion at some point. I heard, because Arrow Dynamics went out of business years ago, that parts are incredibly hard to find and it needs something (I forgot what) to reopen to the public. There still might be some hope because at the very start of the park’s operating season, there seemed to be work being done to the track’s transition into the first corkscrew that looked like welding. In my opinion, I think that the coaster’s days are definitely limited and I don’t see it operating for more than next year’s season.
The corkscrew was also my second coaster I rode that goes upside down too. What was your first upside down coaster? My first upside down coaster was Rock N Roller Coaster at Disney’s MGM Studios.
Canobie Coaster. Canobie Corkscrew. Canobie Lake Park. 3×Canobie 🤣 And I Hope Canobie Corkscrew Won't Get Removed. Give It A Re-Track Instead! Keep It Alive :)
While the idea of the Corkscrew being removed certainly tugs at my heart strings, my wife and kids have loved the waterpark. The implementation of season passes has made it more practical to visit even if it is for shorter windows of time. Personally, I think the family is hoping for a wave pool in the next expansion phase. Hopefully whatever the next thing is will happen soon. It's heartbreaking to see an unused attraction!!
I'm extremely sad that these are going away. With me being being newer enthusiasts, I have gotten to travel go ride a lot of these older coasters. I'm afraid I may never get on one of these corkscrew models
I like this ride because it’s thrilling, but it’s very painful to ride, I think they should replace it with something smoother, in fact I think Canobie Lake is desperate for a new roller coaster, as they haven’t received a new coaster since 2011.
@@CanobieCoaster One of the biggest things that needs to change in the water park is the staff, they were incredibly rude to me, and didn’t let me pick the waterslide I wanted.
I just realized that coaster is apart of your little icon for the channel. Yeah I’m sorry it is going to go, even if it wasn’t the best I understand the sentimental value you may have with it.
Glad to see it go. Riding it was like being in a dumpster as it was emptied into a gargbage truck. The transitions were absolutely BRUTAL. I ended up with whiplash one year and went home from the park early because my neck hurt so bad. Would be nice if they put in another coaster, but they gotta keeps the kids happy so I see waterpark expansion being the way they go.
I hope it’s open tomorrow when I go. I want to get a few more rides even though it’s rough. EDIT: I saw the part where you said it hasn’t been opened all season, that sucks :(
I’m just incredibly sad that this will most likely get replaced with water slides. This is my favorite coaster at the park, and I really feel like they need something else coaster wise to replace this. Before this, I felt like Canobie needed more coasters to round out their lineup :( now the park will feel even more lacking in that department
Their water park has been a major draw. They need more water slides. I think they could replace the redundant Tall Timber Splash with a roller coaster down the road.
@@CanobieCoaster that’s a super fair point! Even though I personally don’t enjoy water parks, I understand that Canobie has had huge successes with Castaway Island. It definitely feels like they’ve been working towards making it a fully fledged water park over the years, and that’s totally fine. I’ll just miss corkscrew :’( it would be nice if they could add another train to Yankee Cannonball to help speed up that line a little bit, but I might just be asking for too much here!
If they go the coaster replacement route, then an RMC Raptor would be a perfect fit. They're not expensive, and can be built with a custom layout to work within the height limit and tight plot of land.
I would love a Raptor, but I think the Corkscrew's plot is ear-marked for a water park expansion. I would want a thrill coaster for their next addition as a thrill-seeker, but their lineup could use a family coaster with a 36-42" height requirement more.
This was my very first steel and upside down coaster. This coaster helped me begin my journey to loving coasters like I do today and hearing this news is heartbreaking. Without this coaster I’d still be scared to go on coasters that go upside down and I would only ride the woodies thanks to the Yankee cannon ball being my very first coaster. I wish I could ride this one last time but I was never able to make it back to the park before I joined the military. Canobie corkscrew, you will be missed and I will cherish the povs so I can keep riding in my heart. RIP Canobie Corkscrew. 😔
Bad move on them. An iconic coaster and in a perfect spot was demolished for the to add more water park land. They already extended it and they don’t need more😞
I wish Canobie was like many years back. Salem is so worried about the tree line. I remember for the first 3 seasons when star blaster" opened and shooting beams of light over the place. to someone almost getting ejected from the Skater, the ride it replaced was safer. the Yankee Cannon Ball keeps getting worse over the years, old wooden coaster can use some TLC for sure, the planet coaster clone of that is very good. I had no issues with Corkscrew. Untamed I knew it was going to draw many to it. to many inversions and not enough wind. Would be nice to have the Haunted House back in place of the Ice Jet. :) Canobie has changed so much since my first stop as I can remember back in '77, Theme Parks always tear down and put-up new rides. I still recall 100-degree days in that rocket ship. and the pool that got replaced with the big wheel. oh yeah, the Galaxy coaster that got replaced with the Frisbee, sure the Galaxy was an Italian manufactured ride, there is still some out there in operation today. Access to the park has been an issue since the pandemic started, not sure if I will have a chance to revisit it again.
I worked for Canobie Lake Park in the 2021 season. The ride closed in early June because there was parts flying off the ride during a test run. The parts that broke off were parts that could not be replaced because of Arrow going out of business. No other company made the parts that were broken, so Canobie had no choice but to take down the ride.
I’ve heard rumors that it might be getting removed. It was my first upside down and big roller coaster so to see it go is kind of sad even though it hurt my head. I hope Canobie replaces it with something good!
As much as it sucks to lose a coaster, when I visited Canobie this summer, the park didn't feel any worse for wear with Corkscrew not running. That land could definitely be better serving to the park.
How is the water park? I’m sad to here it’s likely closing because I’d like to ride this on my vist this Sunday. Would’ve been a nice add to my coaster collection
Honestly I think Canobie made a bad move removing this. Sure it wasn’t the best coaster but it was definitely fun to ride and to lap when lines were short enough! R.I.P Canobie Corkscrew, you will be missed.
Wow Arrow rides being taken down hurt me!This company as s&s now is my favorite company!Thank god Demond can’t ever be taken away as ,I lost shockwave!
Similar to other commenters, this was also my first inverted coaster. It was a rough ride in the 90s, I rode it once in the 00’s and said never again. Those 4 out of 10 points for the initial drop (back row was best) don’t make up for getting your head bashed for the remainder of the ride. I rode similar coasters over the years and Canobie Corkscrew was by far the worst. I understand the water park needs space, but I hope the planners can think three dimensionally. A new coaster could easily ride high over a water park expansion.
@@CanobieCoaster Back in the 90s we rode the Rocky Point Corkscrew the same summer and that one was very smooth in comparison. I recall a class field trip where we rode it over and over again. Then we went to Canobie and only rode that Corkscrew once. I always thought maybe it was frost heaves or improper drainage that messed with the track of the Canobie Corkscrew.
The corkscrew at Rocky Point Park was the first roller coaster I went on ever. It had an additional loop immediately after the first drop. These 2 coasters were staples of both parks. Nothing good lasts forever unfortunately.
@@CanobieCoaster We went this passed weekend. Places packed. From the concession stands, to the kiddie rides, bigger rides, and the water park. I can definitely see adding to the waterpark but at the expense of the corkscrew? Guess we got our answer.
This is absolutely upsetting. I was planning on trying to get on this on my next trip because my last trip I was too scared too. I mean there’s still untamed so that could supplement for me
I'm so sad about this, my family used to go to Canobe every summer. I remember everyone going on the corkscrew but I was always too short and I was so sad about that. until, I was 9 years old and was tall enough to ride all the rides at canobe lake. I hated cannonball. the corkscrew was my favorite ride at canobe next to the log ride.
If canobie looper is brought down the premise of your channel (the logo) is gone R.I.P. Canobie coasters: 2019-2021. Good son, and entertainer. He will be missed
Do you think they will make i bigger/ better ride?I think they need a new ride, they have all good technology and better building abilities and tools now, so I think they should make an amazing ride. Also, with a new ride, lots of more people would come to canobie. I really want to know what you think!
I rode a clone of this a couple days ago named Vortex at Calaway Park in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It was actually really smooth and fun with a really good pop of airtime on the drop in the back.
Hopefully it stays there, because I'm now into defunct roller coaster credits and I've only ridden 3/75 on my count. I haven't made my first RU-vid vid yet, but thanks to this video, I'm now thinking about making my introduction ASAP.
@@CanobieCoaster But you said the park's done this before: They leave some of their rides closed for a season or more, punt them out of the park map, and then after those seasons, the ride reopens!
@@skyguyismyguyr12turn If it's not on the park map anymore, thats the biggest indicator that it's likely gone, it will really be a sad day when Demon gets removed from my home park California's Great America.
Jesus…Arrows are dropping like flies. First Vortex, then Dragon (Ocean Park), and now this. Demon at my home park is safe for now even if it is 45 years old. New effects keep being added to it, and it got a new lift motor a few months ago.
Please move it somewhere else, please do! Such a shame I’ve never gone here with my family even though I’m from RI, but I hope they add something better? Custom rmc raptor perhaps?
I think the Corkscrew plot is almost certainly for a water park expansion. I then think a future coaster could go where the old Tall Timber Splash wet/dry water slides are because they're now redundant.
I definitely think its time for it to go considering its low ridership & rough ride. Its kinda sad though cuz it wasn't built too long after the one that was formerly at Knott's.
i’m very sad to see this coaster go, canobie is my home park and the corkscrew was probably my 2nd inverting rollercoaster. also there replacing it with a WATER PARK?! that’s ridiculous, i would take a bumpy coaster over a water park any day, i like water parks, but they have such slow moving lines and the rides usually aren’t all that thrilling, well a rollercoaster is fun, the lines are sometimes bad but there more worth it and thrilling then a water slide and well a water slide will cool you down, on a hot day rollercoaster will give you a nice breeze as well
i was supposed to go on the corkscrew at canobie last week with my friend as 'exposure therapy' since i have a phobia of roller coasters and it wasn't running at all throughout the entire day
Another iconic ride on the brink of its lifespan. Such a shame. I’m not too sad though because these days, most arrows don’t give a good ride. In fact, when Vortex was removed I was very happy. (Vortex was my number one least favorite coaster.)
@@titanicant258 how could you say that as Vortex was visually stunning to look at, even BETTER to ride, with the 146' drop, and 6 inversions. This ride had capacity, great thruput and everything about it was awesome. The ride that needs to go there is Invertigo, as it is not a good ride. I loved the Vortex. And yes, the color scheme was good, the ride experience was better!!
@@timothykaczmarek5871 Just my opinion. I’m very sensitive to roughness and headbanging and while it wasn’t really rough, there was a load of headbanging. It doesn’t help I had a bad ride on the Racer right before it. (I’ve rode racer since then and it’s much better.) Invertigo is alright. Basically a less headbanging boomerang but it’s inverted. Correct me if I’m wrong but I think it’s the only one left in America. By the way, I appreciated Vortex since it was an old arrow and they didn’t have access to modern technology back then but if you take away all of that (IMO), you get a very bad ride.
While another water park expansion might happen, it’s not going to benefit people going to the park as much as the previous expansion. If they get 3-5 new slides let’s say for the new water park, then they’re going to have the full right to charge a separate admission price for the water park or a combo pass like funtown has. Or what they’re going to do is just raise the price of the regular ticket to around $50 a person. The only return on investment they get from the water park is if they charge people to use it separately or it gives them a reason to increase prices. I would much rather see the water park expand towards tall timber splash versus corkscrew. Where tall timber splash is, there’s nothing that draws people to that side of the park except for the pirate ship and log flume. So putting a new roller coaster over there would be in a bad spot. Especially since that area is closed off anyways during scream fest so there’s no real benefit.
I went august 27 of this year and one of the workers who was sitting on a bench at the train station area said it’s permanently closed. He didn’t give me a reason
I realize that Canobie wants today enlarge the water park but I feel that more family friendly coaster (a Gravity Group) would be beneficial. Some kids aren't large enough for the Cannonball and Untamed or find them scary but find the Dragon boring or too"Kiddie" for their likes
My dream scenario would be for Canobie to expand the water park to Corkscrew's plot and then remove the redundant Tall Timber Splash water slides to replace them with a new family coaster.
I would want another coaster, this one bangs your head too much, but damn I didn’t know the water park got an expansion about time. Haven’t been here since 2016
I think they should stay but if they take it out that you keep some of the park at display but I think they're going to keep it and put it somewhere like the old spaceship ride that ride is still there the one that used to be and the same spot as the untamed
This isn’t good. I wanted to ride it a few weeks ago when I went but it was never opened, same with the skateboard. I hope it doesn’t get removed, but if it does, hopefully a better coaster will get built there.
