In this video, I am back on the water in my homemade cedar strip canoe. As a last chance paddle before the big Scotland trip, I head down to Suffolk, to the river Orwell estuary. Leaving Pin Mill, I paddle down stream using my sail and the outgoing tide to push me towards the ports of Felixstowe and Harwich.
After a lunch stop at Shotley, I head back upstream, passing huge container ships and luxury sailing yachts, tacking across the estuary and using my paddle for extra power to make headway into the wind.
The tidal estuary of the River Orwell is a beautiful area full of birdlife and great fun under sail or for paddling. There is good access from Pin Mill, where there is a car park and a good pub for that refreshing pint afterwards.
For anybody who would still like to donate to the Altzeimers Society (the sponsored cause of our Great Glen canoe trip in Scotland), please find the link below to Ant’s JustGiving page - thank you to all who have already donated - it all helps hugely to fund research into this horrendous illness.
I hope you enjoy the video,
Thanks for watching!
