Next best thing is, not having a wife at all. The worst thing is having a wife with whom you only can have kids and being labeled as family by the society.
I am just blown away at the beauty you captured during your trip. This has to be the best canoe adventure trip video ever. History added along the way. And I was holding my breath while you were going through the rough water. I don’t think I took a breath until you made it. I felt like I was right there paddling with you. Loved the documentation at your stops. What a treasure this video is. Thank you for sharing with everyone.
One thousand thanks, for taking us on this journey with you. Blessings and continued safe travels for you and Ms. Cathy. Narration and videography has been splendid. Thank you once again Mr. Peter!
Boy, you and Kathy can do modern anytime you want. That's a great video. Please thank Kathy for the Sam Magee poem. It really resonated with me. My wife's late uncle who was as close to a grandfather as anything for her, used to recite that poem by heart. He was a WW 1 vet. Thank you
Hello Peter & Cathy. Appologies for my absence from watching & commenting. Things have been busy and we've been spending as much time with our granddaughter over the summer months. What a spectacular trip and appreciate you both for sharing. Cathy well done on the poetry and for taking the brunt of the rapids. Peter we appreciate as always the history lessons. I hope this comment finds you both well rested and healthy. God bless my friends and we'll see you down the road. Thanks again.
@@TheWoodlandEscape good to hear your both well. We've had the smoke here for weeks, the past week not to bad but news is saying to expect its return. Be safe my friend and God bless.
As you said at the end "What a trip!". Absolutely fabulous adventure Peter and Cathy! The scenery and river are like no others. And as a former (amateur) canoe instructor and competitive paddler - it's great to see your paddling abilities! An incredible trip and something to remember for many years to come. Thanks for taking us along! Cheers my friends!
Step aside Bert Reynolds and Jon Voight, let Peter and Cathy show you how a canoe trip down a river is done... Such an amazing thing to see! It was great seeing You and Kathy in the video. You and Cathy are the perfect couple..
Fantastic camera work absolutely stunning, good to see more of Kathy too, I loved the poem. Glad you are appropriately armed and yes it does give peace of mind when predators are so close. Thank you so much for sharing your exciting and beautiful trip.
Thank you two so much for taking the time and making the effort to film your trip. I enjoyed watching that immensely. What a paddle. The wee bits of history make it that much more enjoyable. Glad you made it ok. Thanks again and safe travels!
An outstanding video capturing some stunning wilderness beauty. My wife and I truly love your camera work and we were both pleasantly surprised by Cathy's reading of Cremation of Sam McGee. Karen, my lovely spouse of 55 years, is something of a fan and expert on prose interpretation and simply raved about Cathy's recitation of Rob Service's masterpiece. She will watch again and again just to listen to the very professional reading. Bravo, Peter and Cathy!
Yes, this is a little bit different than usual but what an excellent video!!! Such beautiful country - This is by far one of your best videos - Outstanding!!!! Thank you for taking us along.
Oh Cathy, you have missed your calling! What a fine pome reader you are! Thank you so very much! I am a long way from Canada by miles but my heart is there with you! Millie from Mississippi, USA
An epic adventure accompanied by epic tales and poetry. Thank you for taking us along, it makes me think of a time when no one had electronics in their pockets and people weren’t tethered by a Gordion knot of responsibilities and devices. How quiet the world must be in the land up north. Beautiful country, beautiful people.
Altitude - vs - Latitude. This is your absolute best. The blend of adventure, running the Yukon by canoe entertwined with bringing history alive, then finishing off with the Robert Service "Cremation of Sam Magee"...Masterful work. It brings back memories of my youth spent wandering and exploring abandoned mining towns in the Colorado Rockies. Here the landscape is breathtaking. It is just damn vertical. The landscape is defined by the incredible Rockies. The lower Montane forests change into sub-alpine, then alpine. Then around timberline, similar boreal forests givie way to alpine tundra. There are still some mining roads, abandoned towns, mining structures and heaped mine tailings, broken down machinery. All are slowly being reclaimed by nature. Or they are demolished and turned into ski resorts, leaving token samples of this incredibly rich history. Thank you both for stirring up these ol' memories.
Happy to have stirred them up, sir. We are now in that vertical world you speak of as we entered Northern BC today and are working are way down the spine of the Rockies.
We had been planning that very trip until covid hit and are thinking of possibly starting in Dawson next year and complete that leg. Beautiful place to settle.
Baseball cap and all. It feels like we are right in the canoe with you both. Thanks for putting up with the wet clothes and sore muscles to bring us along.
Wow y’all what a journey. I’ll bet the night sky is just as beautiful as the landscape. That was a great reading by Kathy. God bless y’all. (Old guy from Arkansas)🇺🇸
What an amazing trip. Thanks for taking us along. Certainly I wouldn’t have the courage to go myself. I held my breath as you went through the rapids. Great video footage!
So good to see both of you in this video. My wife and I are from Australia and visited Whitehorse and Dawson City in 2011 then travelled through to Alaska. It holds wonderful memories for us. Thank you for helping us relive the holiday.
Peter absolutely fantastic!! Beautiful spectacular. It’s funny how you never forget this sensation of going through white water rapids or rough water, really makes you feel alive. As always, thank you for the wonderful videos.
Great trip Peter! As a scout and a scout leader I have done quite a bit of canoeing. This makes me want to get out on the water again. Thank you for sharing!
I grew up just outside of Watson Lake . Have moved away but i have so many memories. lived 6 years in Whitehorse. Your vid brought back so many memories.Cheers
For me, this is top notch content and I appreciate it. I've watched 100's of similar videos but this one is a step above, like wilderness royalty - a great team.
Would I sound like a wimp if I said that I was in tears while Cathy read the poem The Cremation Of Sam Magee? Well,I don't care! Actually I was pretty much speachless throughout the whole video. Cathy, you are a spectacular photographer, filming scene after breathtaking scene, each one better than the last. I can imagine how difficult it was to edit and prepare this video given the volume of incredible material. Peter, you are a first class story teller and vividly bring to life hstory that most of us know nothing about.Best of all though, is to see the love between you two. If I sound like a loving sister/sister-in-law, well... so be it!
W E L L D O N E !!! Talk about 2 peas in a pod...U 2 R soOOOoo 'in sync'! It was; BEE-U- TEE-FUL 2 watch the way U handled those rapids...and to think it was wee but mighty Empress Catherine at the 'bow' = YIKES! I think my fave pic of this vid was the lovely embrace of two like-minded and shared heart = GREAT Gift! I am very happy 4 the 2 of U! It wasn't E Z 4 U 2 take us along on your trip...I do thank you most kindly 4 all your time and talents shared. Nothing like a vacation 2 a place NOT overrun by visitors = PERFECT! I DO encourage ALL efforts 2 keep bears at bay = Good idea(s)! “He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how.” (Friedrich Nietzsche). Thought 4 sure U might find a horse in the old stables U visited Emperor Peter, and THAT would have completed Daniel Boone's idea of perfection = "All you need for happiness is a good gun, a good horse, and a good wife." LOL! Health dear ones and God's blessing! :)
While a wee bit inappropriate today, Boone’s quote does have a simple eloquence to it. I’m definitely going to have to read some more Frederick Nietsche, I absolutely love the quote. And yet again, thanks, Marie for your lovely comments.
So glad I stumbled onto your adventure! Your film making and story telling are wonderful, what a trip. I really enjoyed the history of the land and the scenery was stunning. Thanks to you both for sharing your canoe trip :) :)
What a stunning video!! We loved it! As others have noted, it was nice to see Cathy more frequently. On that note, a smile crossed my face at that part of the video where Cathy was preparing coffee at 3am for an early start and then I heard what I took to be a snore from off screen!! I wonder, did someone sleep in?? Best Regards Rob & Kathy
Absolutely fantastic, loved this video! Love the scenery, history and poem about Sam Mcgee. Thankfully I save every video, so when its cold out I can go back and relive the video again. Keep your powder dry and thanks again
Appreciate your efforts and dedication! Wow what a trip. Peter have you ever considered writing a book? Travel, craft, history, music, adventure, the gift of gab, you my friend have had quite the life. So many stories you could tell, some you already have. I think it would be an interesting read and I'm sure many would agree. Cathy thanks for sharing the poem. Makes you wonder about the drive of the people back in that time and the dedication of true friends. Thanks again and keep your powder dry!
I have indeed been fortunate in my life to have been in the right place at the right time when so many opportunities presented themselves. I’ll pass on your compliment to Cathy and please, do watch yer top knot.
Another awesome video from you two! I admit my heart was in my throat a little as you went into those rapids, but you two handled it with ease. Obviously, you are both very skilled canoeists. And Cathy's recitation of "Sam McGee" was marvelous!
I tried to watch two other versions of this trip but turned them off because the majority of the videos were selfies of the author paddling. Yours was the professional version which I enjoyed immensely. the Cremation of Sam McGee just topped it off. Thank you.
Thank you sooo much for taking the effort to film and share ,,inspiring! Insightful and fascinating. Getting your notifications on time here in Pennsylvania.
Great video! What an amazing trip. Thanks for bringing us along. I really enjoyed listening to Kathy recite the Cremation of Sam McGee. Hopefully we're still going to make it over to Dawson before the summer is gone. Any more canoe trips in the future? Would love to have you here if you did another segment of the Yukon from Dawson into Alaska somewhere.
We are thinking of doing Dawson to the Ocean next year, I believe it is about 2000 km. On route home we are canoeing into Grey Owls cabin in northern Saskatchewan. Thanks for the kind compliments.
@@TheWoodlandEscape Wow! When I said "into Alaska somewhere" I was thinking Eagle, Circle or Yukon Crossing at the farthest! That's epic! Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help from this end. I've been flying around Alaska for a living for the last thirty something years and know a few folks along the Yukon.
Beautiful video! So much cool history, and it’s amazing to see the remains of actual structures from the time. I’m looking forward to the video where you talk about the history of the place you stopped at along the route!
