1st - RU-vid suggests your video, I decide to click on it. 2nd - I am immediately intrigued by your big smile and your generally positive vibe, so I decide to check out your Instagram 3rd - Holy crap, this guy actually has really good stuff... 4th - Subscribed.
Thanks so much! It’s hard as a pro to RU-vid. It’s a lot of work to make a competent video and then it makes you no money haha. I’m trying hard to do it more but even a silly unboxing video burned my whole day around my assignment. But I’m working hard to make and share more of these and really appreciate the kind words!!
Im very happy for u my friend ! 😃 we could all read pure joy on your face while opening that box. I hope to see myself too opening at least a second hand 1DX mk2 . Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much! Every camera coming out anymore is so exciting. Like different flavors of awesome ice cream! More about the work than the cameras (but they are fun!)
It's so awesome to watch you unbox a camera that you will actually use professionally. The company I'm shooting for this weekend at Daytona had one delivered. I played with it in the trailer but he's been using it and enjoyed it a lot. It oddly just feels more refined than my 1DX Mark II? Looking forward to your review. I might sit this round out and evaluate if I even need to upgrade.
Appreciate that. Yes. I think it’s like a finer version of it. Working on tests and stuff now and have professional boxing tomorrow night to shoot with it. I find 1DX body upgrades have a collection of small upgrades that really add up. If that makes any sense
Right?? It happened so fast. I bought an R for some stuff I do during sound recording situations for a certain client and now I’m going to sell that as these do fine for that. (Will likely get an R5 though as I LOVE! the RF lenses so much)
There is a setting in the custom controls menu (same place you deactivate focus from the shutter button) where you don’t have to press a button before using the old style joystick, but now that you have the fancy one you‘love probably never need the old one!
I personally find a real cinema camera (if you’re doing video only) is just light years better day to day. These are great for c cam or weird setups etc. but having built in ND, proper ergonomics etc etc. make your life super easy in comparison. Let alone the audio. XLRs and great pre amps allow you to do a ton of work pretty easily instead of a mess of cables and pre-amps or recorders etc. not to say you can’t do it with either just love having a dedicated video setup on the video days
I am working on buying the r3 and watching your setup video on it was super helpful. All your videos are super helpful. I will send your link to other photographers I know, thank you.
I love these unboxings - just hate how people tend to throw new items on the table. Arrgghhhhh.... it’s brand new dude! Handle them carefully. CAREFULLY.
New camera day is the best day if your getting one. I guess I’m second best I only got a new 70-200mm f2.8 L. That was expensive enough for today. Good luck with your new piece of beautiful Canon hardware and I hope you like what it gives you as it is a beast.
👏🏻👏🏻it’s not the end all to cameras. You can create incredible work with soooo many cameras now. Shot my last professional assignment before these with an EOS r, it worked amazing!
@@BrettCarlsen definitely, but I like premium stuff but I believe also it's better then any Dslr camera and I like to buy one expensive thing instead to have 3 cheap greeting.
Hello Brett, congrats with your new camera. I' am using 1D cameras for a long time know. I own the 1DX and I want to upgrade. With my 1DX I have one big problem, the oil spletter problem. In Holland we have a company that is brilliant with sensor cleaning, but I can't go there every month (big money). But I'am really sick of removing 200-350 dots an image!! Can you let me know if this camera has the same problem? I'll be very grateful if you will lett me know. Thank you very much. Greetings from Holland and have fun with this beast.
I notice none of this a few thousand frames in. Never noticed this on the 1DX Mark II either. You will absolutely love this camera. It’s so nice and so fast.
Hello, I love the video- super helpful. I’m about to get mine soon, which processing software would you recommend for photos as well videos? Thank you 😊
You can use anything you like. Personally I use Adobe Lightroom for toning photographs and Adobe Premiere for video editing though Final Cut Pro X and Davinci Resolve are also great options
Haven’t even switched it over yet. Working on my comparison this week though. I photographed boxing with it this weekend and was very impressed! Video testing is next.
Great video review. An interesting use for a 1DXMIII. It's nice to see the new features, but $6500 is a lot to spend for a wedding camera, especially one with only 20mpx. A Sony A9 is $4000 less and has 20fps, silent shooting, eye autofocus, and a flip screen. Plus it is a lot lighter. For a thousand more I can buy a Sony A7R4 with 61mpx. However, if you do a lot of weddings the 1DX is a solid workhorse and Canon has a lot of lenses available. For me, I find that the newer mirrorless cameras are a lot easier to use for wedding style portraiture. Their lighter weight, eye autofocus, and flip screen saves my back and lets me get amazing shots without contortion. Do I need a new camera? Not really, but it's always nice to get a new lens. Unfortunately, the 1DXMIII will not be able to use the new Canon R lenses like the spectacular 85mm F1.2. It will be interesting to see what the Canon R5 brings to the table.
Definitely all valid thoughts. I cover news, NFL, UFC and everything in between. Cameras get a lot of use and go through hell especially weather and nothing is as tough as the Nikon D4/5/6 series or the Canon 1D bodies. Also use a giant variety of lenses especially in the super telephoto range. This new camera is incredible when it comes to AF and also the ease of changing settings without looking at a menu is amazing on these style cameras. That being said weddings are a different beast and eye AF on Sony or Canon R bodies would be very helpful and (hopefully) you aren’t standing in rain storms for 5 hours like I have to haha.
Howdee. I havent seen you in a while. I have a 1Dx mark 1 with a 300mm that I dropped and not sure if any damages at the moment. Rather than send it in for possible repair, a friend offered me his 1Dx Mark 2 with a 400mm f 2,8 but I dont know what they are selling for today Feb 2023. Any idea? I love my 1Dx but it would be nice to have the mark 2. And the 400 for foorball. I just dont want to overpay for it. I welcome any advice. Thanks.
Sadly I missed this comment. But I am unsure honestly. Haven’t researched them much. I’d check the big retailers like KEH. BH etc and maybe find some examples. Usually private sellers should expect a little less than those prices though
I got one from MPEX in Columbus, OH and one from B&H photo. I preordered immediately when they went on pre order. But I’d try MPEX. At least you can call and talk to someone that can give you a real estimate etc. (also they are great there)
Both. Haha. It has it built in however for more advanced applications the external device is more robust. So sending some frames to your phone or similar case. Internal is fine. Live transmitting an event to a remote server, you’d want the external. Ethernet is built in though.
Still have both of them. Love them. Hadn’t had enough experience at first the virus happened. I do need to make a video about them though. Perhaps this week
🤬I think the prices should get included free memory cards and plus include lens well that’s what I did brought 3rd party 😃 24-105 and 24-70 👌 Great video enjoyed it can’t wait to receive mine
They do give you one free memory card and reader which is awesome. Haha most people buying a camera like this own all the lenses already. I’d rather save the money and just get the body but I get what you mean. You will love it!
Hi Brett could u test if the beast output HDMI to ninja and the limitation plzzzzz im dying to know. I live at Australia , I want one but no stock until April .
did you change anything in the custom function? I have my 1dx mark 3 for a week and can't say its much better than my 1dx mark 2 so I wanted to know what you think and If you changed something in the custom function. thanks @seffimagriso
I always dial in a lot of custom functions. I find this camera to perform significantly better. Especially regarding AF accuracy and consistency. Also high iso performance is at least one but I think two stops better
I couldn’t get it to do it in full electronic shutter mode. May be user error. I will double check the manual but it went away when I went from silent live view to silent live view plus electronic only shutter
@@BrettCarlsen Dangit.... Ugh.... I do a TON of bracketing and that would save my shutter... The EOS R doesn't do it either. I was super super bummed. Wont stop me from buying a mark iii, but I was REALLY hoping that would be a feature on it. Thank you for the fast reply, and testing it for me!
@@BrettCarlsen My guess is if there's any motion on a long exposure, it would REALLY show up. Not sure if there's a minimum shutter speed on silent shooting (I don't have my R handy to test) Either way, that motion wouldn't effect me really... or if it would, I can activate the mechanical shutter and not have an issue.
Yeah I assumed as much. Hmm. I’ll ask some other people who got it and see if they can come up with getting it to work. First time I tried was for you right now haha
1dx 2 has been dream since it was realised now I really want the 3...... been rockin my 70d for 5 years now. Focused on glass instead of bodies then canon went and changed mounts on me. Lol oh well but dam I'd love to just explore the 1dx mark 2. Ig: @distortedvaimage @makustumss client @noshmmb
You did the right thing, lenses work great on the R series with included adaptor. And can pick up used. EF bodies for very little compared to a camera like this
@@BrettCarlsen yeah I'm looking at m6 mark 2 right now honestly. Torn if it's the better option over 90d. Thought of getting 7d mark 2 but price hasn't dropped enough yet. But enjoying tamron 24-70 And 70-200 g2 right now. Just body is getting mighty old now don't even want to think of shutter count. Lol
Haha. Well if you’re shouting action primarily the crop bodies would be the way I go. 6D 2 if you’re more focused on slower moving things etc. or obviously smaller depth of field is needed. I actually tested the 90D in the fall. Borrowed one for a weekend. It’s pretty impressive, I found the autofocus and things performed really well with action even using my big super tele lenses. It’s kind of like a 7D 2.5 haha Also if you’re into blogging or what not the swivel screen made life easy
@@BrettCarlsen yeah my original start was skating using my ae1 and a 50mm lens. Lol got st shoot soccer first time last year. But I'm all over board with my work and what's going on lately between food, sports, music, and just wherever I felt like pointing camera. If you get chance @distortedvaimage @makustumss and my main client right now @noshmmb 9n Instagram. Look forward to more of your content and work after finding page.
