Very nice compositions! Great colours. I'm getting this camera tomorrow... I used to have it before for many years, sold it and bought 5D mark III, but now I miss it and it is time to get it back! I've seen some old photos from back in the days and immediately I was like "wow", I prefer the look of that old 5D over the new one.
Great video mate! One can clearly see you put in a lot of effort and made it very enjoyable to watch. Personally I bought a 5D classic after watching quiet a few videos about the camera and was intrigued to try it out. Many years ago I started off with a Canon 500D and 7D which I really enjoyed the results but in the end I had to let it go due to the size/weight of the system all together. About 6 months ago I found a cheap 5D body and 50mm lens and picked it up. The camera did take lovely shots but for me the size/weight, outdated screen/menu system was something I couldn't see myself getting over. So after a few months of owning it I sold it off. Certainly a great camera for someone who is just starting off and has a small budget or people who like to shoot at a slower pace. But I think for me and how I shoot I value something more modern and won't slow me down when shooting. Still a great camera for many people out there for sure!
Thanks very much! Yes, the canon 5D was my camera I used the longest time. I also shot the first years of my first child solely with the 5D. therefore the camera and the EF system has a special place in my heart. :-) But i see your point with the size. Today I don’t go heavier than with the Sony A7III and a smaller 50mm lens. I also could not imagine to use a 5D with the old 24-70 2.8 anymore and carry it all day long around my neck. But the 5D with a small prime is still a nice combo.
@@manugeee I bet you would've got some very nice shots of your kid for sure mate! I own the A7 III and 50mm as well and it's about my max limit too. I think these days especially when I'm travelling I like using my smaller micro four thirds bodies like the GX85 and GM1 with small primes. Sometimes it pays to have something smaller which you can deploy quickly to get shots you would've otherwise missed.
Thank you for the video. With a capable camera; one can create pleasing images anytime. 5D Classic is fully capable now and will remain so as long as it keeps clicking. I bought a used one two years ago and couldn't have been happier. I shoot landscape and street photos with this gem. I'm a hobbyist so, I can keep creating images without feeling the obligation to be good at it. Just love and enjoy its company. I also own 5DII and take it along on distant missions. But when I'm home and shoot within my vicinity; it's always 5D Classic.
Thank you for watching the video. 😁 It it really still possible to create beautiful pictures with old cameras. Of course They have some limitations, but they are definitely not as bad as the marketing departments want to tell you as the new stuff is superior. My 5D has a screen problem now, therefore I will go inside and have a look for the wiring next year. Thankfully it was cheap, so I don’t have to be afraid that much. 🤪
Enjoyed your video, actually watched twice in last month as I have re bought this marvelous camera. Used the original camera for weddings and travel 2008, upgraded to mark 3 not really appreciating how good it was so decided to buy another and use for my own use. Also use the same lenses. Thanks again.
Thanks for your compliment. The good old 5D is really the only camera where I regretted selling it. Maybe because I shot the longest time on it or because I started shooting the kids first years. But the 5D is really a special camera in my heart. :-) Have fun with yours as well. :-)
@@manugeee That's how I feel Manu I took some of my favourite pictures on my original 5D, Ihave always thought of that camera as a benchmark to my later cameras. Enjoy your photography.
Thanks for your comment. I am also just starting my video work on this channel. I shoot photos for more than 20years, but video is another dimension of work, i have to say. Especially recording the voiceover was hard, the first time. But i am getting better and better with each video and i am still learning a lot with each new one i make. How is it going for you? :)
I totally see what you mean. The Fuji X100, I have creates also lovely images and is so incredibly small and light. But the oldschool feeling and results of a DSLR make the higher weight worth it.
I am totally with you. great cameras. I had the 5DII also a couple of month ago and it gave me almost the same feeling of shooting, but with a better screen. :D
I've been using my 5d with the plastic fantastic for about a month now. When people talk about canon color this is it,Especially the red's. It does collect dust like a magnet.
I totally understand this. I shot mine for more than 7 years as main camera. Documented most of my first child’s years solely with the 5D. The 5D is really a Great camera.
Very beautifull images indeed. I choose an evolution of this very fine camera, the 7D Mark II for as much as 330,-€ used in great conditions. It includes some very fine features for nature fotography, even under rough conditions and I don't even care for mirroless, which are "offering many problems of there own (dust??!!), Thanks Manu, lovely video!!! 😀😀😀
Thanks again. :D Yes, the "old" mirrorless cameras are not instantly bad, just because the companies want to sell their new mirrorless stuff. I recently got a 350D (my first DSLR) and went out for a first walk and the images were really great. Good light with your 7D Mark II.
Hi Baba Salam, thanks for your comment. 😁 great to hear that you liked my video. It took me quite a while, but responses like yours make the work worth it.😊
I'm such a fan of the older Canon 5D series (and the underrated 6D mk1). I just bought my 2nd 5D (because I always regretted selling my first one). Let me tell you something .... You can buy a 5D + 5Dmk2 + 6D mk1 + 40mm f/2.8 for less than the latest iPhone. If you want the most beautiful images in the world then I just gave you a hint.
I totally agree with you. :) The 5D MK1 is the camera, with wich I shot the longest period without even thinking about to change it. It then was replaced by the Sony A7III, but it is the Canon which I connect with making images of my childrens first years. :D
Hi Manu I do like the way you play with the light in this sound series. Can you share your methods or do you have a web site where you explain it ? Thx in advance.
It’s actually not that complicated. I usually just use a black background, a tripod with the camera placed ~1m away from the wall and a tripod with the film camera and a 90mm macro on it. Then I set scenes and close all lights in the room. For the effect I just hold a standard led panel in hand and let it float in some way around the camera that looks good. 🙃 it’s a little try and error there. I will think about a tutorial on this in the future. 😄
Indeed. The 40mm is really great. With the 50 I had to try several of the different generations until I found a good one. And the 85 was the first lens that blew my mind back in my 350D days and still does. 😁
@@manugeee I've got a 40mm and a 100-300mm for my 5D mkII, but I've been thinking about adding either a 28-135 or an 85mm. I'd love to get L glass, but it's too far out of my budget. It doesn't help that I"m really thirsty for the 5D classic. I love the Mark II, but I don't think I'm going to be complete until I get the classic.
@@freemanchrisx hi there, thanks for the comments. The purpose of the 28-135 and the 85 1.8 are very different. One is an Allrounder of - for me - unknown quality and the other is a very sharp and nice portrait or very light tele lens with a limited use. You should make yourself clear what you want to do and what you need for this. If money is a thing for you, than don’t go into a 5D classic when you have a 5D II. Think about glass or some flash with remote control like yongnuo or godox That will be very much more of use than a second body. That’s what I would look for.
Sure. I have used the canon 430 EX speedlights in the past. There is an update with the 430 EX II which is also cheap to get nowadays. You can even remote trigger them with an IR remote control like the st-e2 I had in the past. The only downside is that the flash needs to see the trigger.
No, there was no lifeview mode in the first 5D. Shooting photos is a pure workflow through the viewfinder. The display can only be used to roughly check the photos afterwards.
My upper threshold for ISO on this camera is 1,600. But... don't expand... It's horrendous at 3,200, as you know. But... when you expand upwards to demonstrate in this video, the screen says H. Mine just says 3200. What version of the firmware are you running?
My firmware is still 1.01. there is an update, I always want do install but afterwards forget to do. 😅 this one should also fix the but, that no Aperture value is shown in the Exifs when using the modern EF 40mm 2.8 pancake lens.
Every today, I'm looking at a 5D Mark II. I have a modern Canon Aps-c DSLR, with a lot of great EF lenses. I don't need mirrorless technology. Expensive and not needed.
I switched to a 5DII, too. ^^ my mark1‘s Display stopped working and the AF went faulty over time, so I found one with a 24-105L for a really good price and ended with 100€/~$ for the body only. It is still a great camera. 😏
Nice comment. thank you, too. 😁 it’s fascinating. I own the camera for a long time. But after uploading this video I have learned a lot of new stuff. Thanks. 😁👍
Every day is a school day 😁 btw did you know when you choose to extend the ISO to 3200 (H) you also get a 50 ISO (L) to play with? 👍🏻 super creamy results 😎
Could you use a virtual machine and set up a windows xp setup? Well I couldn’t, but someone out there will for sure have made a tutorial for this. ;-) I actually didn’t even know, that creating custom profiles was possible. 😁
@@mathieucithi nothing is impossible. ;-) I have never met the seller and it didn’t came with a battery charger. Maybe because it didn’t fit the EU standard.
@@jhuang2282 it seems like the Contax N Digital was the real first one. The 1D-s was released almost the same time and vacate very popular. But the canon 5D was the first one that caught my attention and got stuck in my head. I would say, that’s what it was. 😄
