Wow! Does a great job, and unlike others have said the lens is quiet.

It is - no sound at all. I have held my ear to the lens, I have held an external mic to the lens as it is focusing and there is no discernible sound. The 40mm does produce a slight but audible whine as it focuses.

You can buy direct from Canon USA but you pay taxes and shipping. I really hope Amazon will carry it soon. I have been reviewing one and will soon be putting it up for sale. Send me message if interested.

the zooming sounds real quite! was this the on board mic? if so i need to get one because my 18-55mm lens is like a chainsaw when i zoom.
