My Canon 70D would not power up or come on, it was dead even through the batteries were good. This video addresses this issue and most likely will work for you too.
SO HELPFUL!! My camera took a tiny fall and I thought that was the end of it. Was ready to open it up and see if something internal broke. Came across this video first and it did the trick!!
Love you man..Just ran into this issue and literally was about to collapse.. Searched on google and your video was the first thing that popped up. Although you made this 3 years ago but honestly it just saved me from a mental breakdown. Thank you !!!!! #Subscribedforlife
Oh my gosh GOD BLESS YOU! This saved me hundreds of dollars. I dropped my 70D (not paying attention and being a terrible camera owner) and thought for sure I did it in but thank god this was all I needed to do. Thank you!
Ohh my gosh! I woke up today to find my camera was having this issue! It was the issue of pressing the switch on the battery! Thank you for having this info! We leave for a trip next week and I was freaking out about having to send in the camera!
This solution did not work for me. I did some research and found out that there are 3 such switches which can stop the camera to turn on. 1 for the battery( as shown in this video), 2 in the mem card slot and 3 in the lens. I tried putting the sd card and tried putting a little pressure on the cover and it worked!! I hope this helps...😇
I just want tp pass on my thanks to you Videobob...it worked for me. The small plastic lug on my cheap Chinese battery grip had broken off and was therefor not making contact with the micro switch. Camera door back on with a single battery and hey presto...problem solved. Thanks again Videobob!!
Brilliant infor Mate👍 However mine (5D Mark iv) is only powering without lens attached. Once I attach lens it shuts down. Without lens I can even access the menu, clear settings and even updating the firmware. It’s talking to the flash via hot shoe and even fires..... Only when I put the lens it then shuts down....
I have a Canon 7D, but this worked for me!! Thank you! Question: how do I make this work long term? It works fine while I have just the regular battery in, but what if I want to use a battery grip again? Do I have to get another one? Any and all help is appreciated.
2023 and your video is still helping people--this was exactly the issue with mine. It must have had some schmutz in it because after I poked it with a knife, it started working again just with the battery door.
Thanks Bob. Evidently it was the switch you just pointed out on the add on battery box. I took the box off and reinstalled then tightened it. The camera came right on. 😀😎👍
Thank you soooo very much. I had just began learning photography and I just thought I lost it all. For all normal digital camera users out there there a similar switch near the battery too!
If any of you are still experiencing this problem, canon recently sent out a service repair notice to owners of the EOS 70D. I sent mine in last week and they just Finished repairing it for free.
Thank you very much! Today I suddenly could not turn on the camera, it was first time that this happened. Watching your video saved the day in my work!
I saw a blog by Canon techs who advised to replace the time/date battery, remove the regular battery, memory card and lens. My 50D takes a size Li 2016 battery. I replaced the button battery, installed the card, battery and lens’s and it turned on. I did note my Canon batts 2 out of 3 were bad even though I had charged them up. To my dismay, my lens AF/MF was not working. I think the gears are broken.
This is the sort of gem in a haystack that, despite loads of misinformed, droning, self-indulgent nonsense, has made RU-vid indispensable. Saved my 60D. Thought I was due for a full frame upgrade!
Does cold weather factor into this problem? My canon 90d did this yesterday. So, I went into my car for warmth in hope it’d help. Unbeknownst of the microswitches if that is the issue in this case.
I tried everything that he recommended but camera didn't work....it's the temperature...if it's very cold outside then it freezes....put it in room temperature place for sometime, it will start working again.
You right about the micro switch in the sd card slot, in my case was the sd card I was using SanDisk Ultra Plus 80MB/s SD XC V10 1 Class 10 64GB something about the card measurements were not activating the micro switch in the card slot, I must mention that in the same card I had installed Magic Lantern but never had a problem until recently, i doubt it has something to do with Magic Lantern software, then I use a different card one with less capacity PNY 16GB SD HC 50MB/s I1 Class 10, turn off the camera remove the battery, insert the battery back, insert the less powerful card, turn on the camera on and yes the camera will turn on just fine problem solved. If I use the same SanDisk card again the camera will go back to the same old problem of refusing to turn on, so definitely something about that SanDisk card.
I had the same problem with my Canon 70D. I recently tried using mine and tried everything I could think of and even contacted Canon and they wanted $500. just lo look at my camera. I eventually found the problem . Five out of the six new Canon batteries were defective. Luckily one battery was good and my 70D started up. I notified Canon and their attitude was "tough".
Your this tutorial really saved my life. I got so tensed that my brand new camera just 1 week old was not turning on. Your this video seriously saved me. You are amazing 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Omg!!! You basically saved my bank account. 😂😂 I did everything! Changed battery, sd card, charger and ended up calling Canon for my Canon Eos 4000D. It is not a very expensive one, but for me as a beginner, I started thinking wtf why did it turn of all of the sudden. And i took a pin as you explained and pushed and worked. Its weird. I need to see how I can fix this. It was that bloody door and the sensor.
My canon 1100d won't turn on for more than a year already. I stumbled upon this tutorial during this quarantine aaaannnndd voila!! This trick saved my cam!! (make sure that the pin!/microswitch will be pushed down upon closing the battery door) Thank you!
OK, I have had this problem a couple of times and like a lot of people I did the lens switch and the card thing. I watched this video and stopped it at the micro switch in the battery door and boom! It works. I would have never thought about this switch, Thank You!
Hey thanks!! Worked for me. Looks like I had this going and also had a bad battery in my supply of spares. Multiple issues made it hard to tell what was going on. When I close the battery door then press where the micro switch is the camera comes on with all but one battery.
