I just bought a 90D and this review is so reassuring. I did extensive research prior to buying it but was still unsure about whether it was right for me and this video helped out a lot!
Hi, I bought a Canon 90D about a month or so ago and I immediately updated the firmware to V1.1.1. For video, playing with the max and min settings for ISO, you can set it from ISO 100 to ISO 25600 with 1/3rd stops and also set it to auto if you wish. The min and max ISO are only settable to a stop apart at the narrowest ISO setting but you can adjust them to 1/3rd stops between if you set the camera for 1/3rd stops. There are a whole lot of other great improvements, like 24 FPS for video if you want - in NTSC mode, not PAL, but it is easy to switch. The 1/3rd stops also works for stills too. Other little gems, the ISO settings for stills and video are independent. Switch from one to the other and they use whatever setting was last used in that mode. There is a custom function that will blank the back screen when the shutter button is half pressed for stills, I like this and use it. I could go on but I won't. Check out the updates from the Canon sight. I got the updated firmware and I don't regret it.
Whoa. One of the best camera reviews I've seen on RU-vid from a guy with only 37k followers. Keep up the good work! Def want to see a vlogging setup with this camera.
I had the 80D for over 3 years and decided to try the 90D for one reason. Better dynamic range and less noise. There was no discernible difference in dynamic range and all else being equal, the noise was the same. Sent it back.
I couldn't be any happier with it after a big leap from a 1200D to a 90D. A truely great DSLR with maybe a notch too many options and functions, but hey, that's just me. With the right lens you got one-size-fits-all kind of gear with you, especially with the 18-135mm IS Nano USM lens. Costs you a fortune but you get a lot for the pricetag.
As the 70D gives nice photos, I’m not seeing the need to purchase the latest and greatest. I thought 4K would lean me towards the 90D until I saw the softness. The answer to 4K video is the Sony AX53 4K Handycam. However, if your going to blog then go with the Sony RX100 VII. It is the right answer for you. Also, look at GoPro Hero 9 for run-and-gun video. I’m into those flyover shots so go with the DJI Mavic mini.
The comment regarding 'cinematic' workflow - I agree that UHD 8-bit @ 4:2:0 color is limiting and Canon does not offer a log color space, however, the HDMI out is apparently capable of 10-bit 4:2:2 which means you could use an external recorder such as the Atomos Ninja V for 'cinematic' work. This would also get around the 30 minute recording limit, recording directly to an SSD in either ProRes or DNxHR. Yes - another $750 to accomplish this, but it offers so much more to the workflow. BTW - great video - thanks for posting this.
Everything you said in this video is spot on. The low light performance is what is making me want to sell. Other than that the 90d has been spectacular.
As a 90D owner I can confirm this camera is a nice one. Using it with C-Log3. The only one thing I would like to do is trade some MP for better high iso performances.
part of the prob with 4k is lens res..You need to remember it's 32 mgpix, they are packed in a crop censor. Search Michael the maven .He explains the pixel density. And why L lenses and newer primes are a better choice for the 90D. Also the crop 4k is sharper then the normal 4k in the 90D, but will overheat things sadly
I don’t understand why you’d say people look more attractive when shot with a Canon camera vs a Nikon. It isn’t solely the camera that makes a subject look more attractive it’s the composition, framing, outfit choice, and colors used in the shoot. Also, not to mention post editing and color correction that is a huge factor. I’m sure you already knew all of this.
Thank you for the review! Would you reccomend this camera for recording RU-vid videos? I'm planning to get one for my wife, so she can do her baking, cooking videos for RU-vid. Thanks.
I have the T6i right now and was thinking of upgrading to the 80D, but I felt like it just wasn’t much of an upgrade. 4K may be soft but its still 4K. And 1080p and 120 frames is amazing. I do cinematic work and some vlogging but I’m sure this camera will do better than my T6i for cinematics anyway.
Tech Through The Lens I just got my 90D in the mail. I don’t personally like the feel and build quality of mirrorless cameras as of now but I’m sure once I get more into buying cameras then I’ll have a few lying around.
Heavily debating on upgrading from a 77D to the 90D but I saw that the 5D Mk IV is going for only 700 dollars more as of June 2020. Hmmm.... wondering if it’s more worth it to save a bit more and cop the 5D 🤔 Also, this is the best camera review I’ve watched on RU-vid.
I had a dilemma in buying M6 mark ii or Canon 90d, after watching your video I have made up my mind to buy it ,so i have ordered and now super excited to receive my camera ..Really appreciate your effort to portray the real and genuine review 👏..
Absolutely excellent review!! I currently have an 80D, a G7X II and an XA20. I need to make the jump to 4K for commercial work. I love the menus and color science of Cannons. What camera would you buy to start this process of upgrading to 4K? I'm doing everything from commercials for Hulu and cable TV to more cinematic music videos to web streaming and RU-vid videos. Your thoughts or anyone's thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Considering it only came out a year ago this month in September of 2019 and you made this only 8 months into its existence I sure as hell hope it's still worth it in 2020. Because I bought mine in January and its one beast of a camera. I love it and use it more than i do my 5D mark III.
Hey bro. Please do more vids for the 90d im really looking to get one by next week. I’ve been watching your videos but i kinda just need a bit more convincing 😂
Hey, can you suggest me a 1) compact mirror less camera 2) under $1000 3) For Family use & vacations 4) At least 8x optical zoom 5) Video capture mode at least 1080 60fps, slow motion 240 fps 6) Image & Video stabilization support in any mode of capture settings 7) Manual mode 8) Availability in India or at least in Asia market
Hi! I just need to decide on camera. I mainly do photography but I also sometimes like to shoot some videos. I noticed that 90d and 6dm2 are at the same price. So now I can't decide which one would be better. What do you think? Or maybe better save money buying t8i? Thanks!
Awesome Man!!! Thank you so much, you for real are like the best explaining camera stuff, the truth completely, that's awesome!!! By the way, if you won't use that 90D, I could! 😉
Excellent review! It was super helpful and I'm probably going to invest in this camera later. I thought about buying a Canon M50 but I'll go for a Canon 90D instead. Also, this video was entertaining and River is so knowledgeable and good looking!!
Hey, i have the 90d. I can tell you it is really great. This Guy told you that the colors arent cinematic.. i disagree. I have been making videos for about 3 years and this does really well for me. The thing that makes this camera more expensive then some Sony alternativets are the photo capabilities. This has a 32mp sensor and the ergonomics are awesome. I recommended it alot! Feel free to ask me any questions about it
@@TheShipMunksTV I own a rebel T5. I am ready to move to something better. I am considering the 90D. I love taking pics of my boys and dogs. But concerned about the low light feature. I would appreciate your feed back on this issue, thanks.
@@mariagaribay9514 I don´t think you should be too worried about the low light thing, but the 90d might be a bit overkill for taking pictures of your kids and dogs. The 80d or 70d might be a better and more economical choice instead. The benefit of the 90d really lies in the video capability and the amount if megapixels it has. Its more of a enthusiast camera for a hobby photographer/videographer.
I have a RU-vid channel and I’m planning to improve my videos. I would like to create sewing tutorials and I need to know which lens to buy. Can you recommend a lens?
Hello.. love the review .. I have a 70D and want to upgrade to the 90D.. I heard there is a software upgrade also.. my 70D is a beast at night with the Sigma 17-70 lens.. so should I get the 80D or 90D
Well... what camera would you suggest for cinematic then ayy? I'm looking to create talking head videos but also artistic music videos so creative grading is important to me. Thanks for the GR8 videos!
Think about getting the 90 D never owned a DSLR camera before. If someone has one or is thinking of getting one as well give me a shout if you want to talk. Great Video
I recommend you to download the CineStyle Profile from technicolor website for free and then install it in the camera. If you are good at color grading in post production, you will be amazed about what this camera can do.
Great video and explanation. I just started my channel, and I am currently using my iPhone X and i am looking to upgrade to a canon camera and my skill set. I am working on making an indoor studio and I’m trying to figure out the best canon camera. I would like to use the camera for a bit as technology get better so i am definitely looking for good 4K as well.
I love your videos man, thanks a lot! I got a question, I'm trynna get started out on photography and filming and I'm thinking this is the best camera I'm gonna get quality/prize-wise, and as far as I've seen, you haven't mentioned photography with this camera and you don't like how this camera handles colours, should I still get the 90D or do you have a better suggestion at the same prize? Thanks a lot, keep up the good work!!
Valentina C Its a great camera for photographers, period. If you’re going to be shooting concerts then you’re probably going to be in some low light scenarios, because of its limitations you might want to go with something like a Sony A7 III but that’s going to be about $700 more. I think for the price, you can’t beat the 90D.
Question : If the 4K video is lacking then should I upgrade from my 70D as a hobbyist? As far as audio, I made my own microphones, which goes into my Zoom 6.
So the 90D and the RP are pretty much the same cost (ish). Which one would you go with for general HD shooting and still stuff? The size doesn't bother me, I'm just thinking is the FF enough of a selling point for the RP over the 90D?
I thik the two cameras are worlds apart in terms of what they do. I checked out your channel, I think if its mostly youtube stuff, go with the 90d. But if you're making cinematics/ artsy work, go with the RP. The main things to watch out for is the RP is a full frame and will require the much more expensive full frame lenses, although you can get an adapter for full frame L series. The 90d, is apsc, which is more of a standard format for video, and you will get access to many more lenses , plus it does gorgeous 120fps. If you have questions, let me know.
help me choose for an upgrade for my 2nd body cam for portraits. 90D or the RP? i have a Rebel T6i. wanna upgrade for portraits and good for videos too :)
Excellent I had the 90D and was not happy. I tested the 1DX MK iii loved it out of my price range but I did return to my 7D MK ii which I love. Excellent video
Your link just shows the camera without the lens ? What lens do I buy ? I’m confused ! Trying to order one what bundle are u reveiwing here ? i want to buy , is there a bundle with the 18 x135 mm kit lens ?
maher rifai no, it’s the photographer who makes the picture. If you are a lousy photographer, you will still make lousy photographs, even with a more expensive camera.
I wouldn't have caught the "I do hardcode DP work" innuendo if you didn't put a disclaimer right afterwards!!! LMAO!!!! hehe, but awesome review bro, thanks for all the info.
Hi can you tell me which flashes are suitable for this 90D? im interested in buying it but as i got my old 700D + sigma flash i really want a good flash to go with it. Thanks!
I need a good camera that can shoot good 4k to up to 60fps with good auto focus .... any thoughts??? any that can help much appreciate it. I like to do short films or travel films with transitions and slo motion and all that. I don't really talk to the camera clogging like that. I need cinematic shots. I don't care if you tell me to get a go pro for it lol just anything that would help.
Can you give me 3 of the best lenses for the 90d. I shoot cinematic style videos, RU-vid videos on tripod, and weddings. So looking for a lens good for all
Luciano Leon It looks great. I’ve heard mixed reviews about the 4K but I bought the 90D specifically for the 4K and it’s quality is awesome. If you’re making content for RU-vid or even using it for amateur filmmaking I think it’s second to none in terms of the quality you’re going to get for the price.
great review disagree on the 4k and the 80d stuff. had an 80d was a great camera, but the 90d is def better and the video full hd and yes 4k are a step up worth the upgrade. the 4k i feel is really good and with the two 4k modes along with the improved full hd, to me it was worth the upgrade as the 80d doesn't shoot in 4k and the 90d does.
Can you make a video on 80d vs 90d vs 6dmii as they all are close enough thought love this video and planing to buy 90d and yeah love your other content too and yeah just subscribed
Hey there can you tell me one size own comparing to 70D cause anytime the upgrade they removed something that might need it.... or if you can make a vedio comparison with 70 D please.
