This is test footage shot for the feature film "Disrupted" which is currently in post production. IMDB link to film - www.imdb.com/title/tt6829882/ Zeiss CP.2 35mm, Zeiss CP.2 50mm, Shot in c-log3 internal 4k
A lot of people are commenting on the camera and lens, but I give credit to the person behind the camera. No small feat to create something so beautiful as a one man band. Great job, would love to connect for a youtube conversation one of these days.
I’ve visited this video like 10 times over the past few years. It keeps inspiring me.. it’s times like this that I disregard any new Komodo, FX6, FX9, C500 or anything else.
Was deciding whether or not to sell my Red Epic-W and go the C300 route. This video convinced me. Picking up two of these bad boys now, beautiful work.
Thanks! Much appreciated. I love the look of the Red too - just shot my feature film on the scarlet-w but I think the c300 is such a great all around camera.
In my opinion, this is one of the most beautiful, visually appealing camera tests I've ever seen. Bravo. I've seen other tests where the rolloff isn't as creamy and the sharpness is much lower despite a similar lens. Are there any minor tricks or tips you can tell me about? I'm shooting one of my first films soon and this is the EXACT look I'm yearning for. Hope to hear from you!
White Sun Films thanks so much! Honestly the most important things I can think of are shoot on good lenses and get the lighting as best you can without taking too much time. After that, I think it comes down to coming up with a style that fits the story and using specific focal lengths to help tie everything together. 28, 35, and 50 are my focal lengths of choice for narrative
Just a question Andre - you have more experience in these sorts of cameras. Would a C100 give a similar result as this sample? Ive got an option to buy a C100 or stretch myself to get the C300. Would love any info or insight you may have.
C100 mark ii looks cinematically similar I’d say but obviously is not 4K or 10bit color so will not have the same dynamic range or detail. I think it just depends on what kinds of projects you’re shooting. For interviews and general b-roll the c-100 is awesome. Has the same very clean look I’d say.
awesome dude! ive ordered a C100 - and it came with an external Atomos Ninja (which Ive read can do a 10bit 4.2.2 ProRes - if needed). Its shoots that internal 4K, and outputs a clean HD 1080. I just love how filmic ur footage looks, and its definately something that I would want to gravitate towards. Pure art!
Wow Andre!!!!....this is such a super shot and image that you have produced on that cam.....also it is good to see a video showcasing natural light.....with c-log3 with Zeiss lens's.....i am seriously thinking of upgrading to this cam from my 70D.......wow, you have definatley got me going on this camera Andre....fantastic work sir.....keep it up!!!!
Hi Andre Beautiful pictures from the C300 MK II, would you mind sharing what color space, and color matrix you where shooting the c-log3 in? Also is there a Canon LUT applied in post? Kind regards Alex
Thanks Alex, It was shot in the cinema gamut wide dr 65 I believe with internal 10 bit color. This footage I actually just added a stylized lut to in premiere and did some basic color correction. Didn't use the Canon lut, though I usually do on other things I've shot with it.
Simply beautiful work man! We recently purchased a C300 Mark ll at my job and I just starting to get my feet wet. Would it be possible to give you a call and get a couple of pointers?
Incredible footage, I love how the camera handles natural light and skin tones. I also have the camera and often times torn between shooting Clog2 and Clog3. Recently I've been using 3 with the Production Camera color matrix with great results. Your footage is very clean, did you use Neat Video or another Denoiser? I usually get a pleasing noise profile unless in extreme low lighting conditions (like an event at night or an office/ factory for a corporate video) but this looks exceptionally clean!!
Thanks for checking it out! I actually just slightly overexposed most of the footage to get it a little cleaner but no denoising software was used. Yeah clog3 seems to be a lot quicker to grade than clog2. Wish I owned the camera as I would definitely shoot with it all the time!
Incredible look and camera work! Is this a 2:35 aspect ratio? I haven't been able to find this information, but do you know if the Canon C300 has an in camera 2:35 crop on the monitor so you can see exactly what image you're going to get at that ratio? Would really appreciate your help!
Kyle Schmidt thanks! I’m not positive but I’d guess probably not. I just cropped it in post. I know The Red allows you to shoot cropped in 2:35 which is nice since it saves space on the files.
I really love the color palette of this shot! Do you remember what settings you used to achieve this look and the color tones? I would love to replicate it but am unsure what settings to put on the c300. Thank you!
This, along with your golden hour video, is some of the best test footage that I've seen from this camera. Bravo! Just out of curiosity, do you have any experience with Blackmagic's URSA mini 4.6k? I'm specifically curious about the dynamic range in clog3 vs CinemaDNG.
Much appreciated! I have not yet shot with the 4.6 ursa though I used to own a blackmagic cinema 2.5k. I'd say the image is more filmic out of the black magic cameras in general. I'm not positive which one has more dynamic range but the c-log3 is easier to grade quickly than cinema DNG files. the blackmagic ursa seems to look more like the Alexa or red in my opinion since it has bigger color depth.
Andre Welsh thanks for the info! I've had similar thoughts based on tests that I've seen, but I figure that a large part of that is the shooter. Truthfully, I feel like the footage that you've posted is just as cinematic as much of the stuff I've seen from Blackmagic. Look forward to hopefully seeing more!
@@AndreWelsh So after looking at the Ursa mini pro footage and shooting with the C300. Which would you use for a feature? By the way, this footage is BEAUTIFUL!! I'm trying to figure out now which camera to buy. I would love to be a "one man band" with the C300's autofocus but the Ursa mini pro footage looks a lot like film.
James Reed thanks! Yeah I agree the ursa cameras look more like film than the c300 mark2. I find the c300 mark2 much easier to shoot with from a run and gun standpoint which is nice but no question the ursa will have more flexibility in post. I shot my feature on the red scarlet-w and was generally happy with the decision though there were some scenes where the c300 would have been nice to have instead in run and gun situations
i love the textures, but may i ask. There seems to be a bit of banding, how did you shoot it, in RAW or compressed. Im interested in getting the camara and i know it captures 4:4:4 also. Or could it be the master compression? Thank you
Thanks! This was shot in 10 bit 4:2:2. You'd need an external recorder for it to record RAW. I think the camera only does 4:4:4 in 1080p though I'm not positive since I don't own it. The banding I would guess is mostly caused by the h.264 compression and then further compression from youtube, although I applied some light grading and a LUT which may have also contributed to it.
hi men, first congrats for the shots they look really nice! i wanna ask you how you attach the lenses Zeiss CP to the camara? in Argentina we are the only ones with this camara and is hard to get info on some stuff. Thanks
The camera uses an EF mount from Canon. The lenses can come with an EF mount or PL mount, you just need to specify which mount you need when purchasing or renting, in your case, you would need the EF mount.
Thanks! Much appreciated. They are the Canon EF mount versions of the Zeiss cp.2 so they should work with the camera with no adapter. They're definitely super sharp lenses and I highly recommend them.
Hi Andre, this looks absolutely beautiful. I just have one question, was this shot in 4K at 30p, or at 2K at 60p? Also, when you have shot 60p, do you find it possible to upscale it to 4K? The image seem so beautiful, I'm hoping that it is possible, and as I'm about to press the button on my C 300 mark two, I'm just trying to get a handle on whether I can upscale Slomo without losing too much resolution.
Thanks! It was shot in 4k at 24p 10 bit 4:2:2. The slomo seems to upscale pretty well to 4k though I don't think it's really the strength of the camera.
Really love this video and quality what do use to edit video and what kind of computer? Also what were your settings for export to RU-vid thanks again and I've subscribed to ur page so add more videos please
Amazing video, the shot looks very natural the way it is. May I ask what stabilization system you used for this scene? And what do you usually use? Since I normally only work on documentaries, I have found that it is difficult to replace handheld shots with any type of stabilization system. Using an easyrig or flaycam flowline, Glidecam, or monopod with the canon eos cinema line cameras are probably the best options which I currently have, but I would love to know what you used to film the scene .
That was my first guess. That's always the best for blocked scenes. For documentary however, the way which I figured out is to position a couple tripods and quickly switch the camera from one to another. I've found that nothing can replace handheld shots which I've always tried to avoid because visually it feels more casual in general, but it's the only way which I am able to react to the subject as quick as possible to get the shots. Thanks
Y. Zhao yeah that works. I personally really like handheld though it obviously depends on what camera and lens are being used while shooting - Can never go wrong with a tripod though
Yeah. As long as you don't over do it, you usually will end up with a cleaner image on people's skin tones (though the background highlights will be more blown out, especially with 8 bit color)
Nice. What did you use for fill? Looks like a clear sunny day, but somehow the sun doesn't look like it's pounding thru. About what time in the day was this?
Really? Wow that's impressive for a camera to pick up detail in the shadows like that when you have both indoor and outdoor in the shot. I guess this is the difference between a prosumer and professional camera!
I'm pretty sure the c500 needs an external recorder to record raw 4K but doesn't have the capability to do it internally like the c300 markii does (which is limited to 10bit in 4k). With that said, the c300 markii can also export raw to a recorder and probably has slightly better and newer color science but I'm not really sure.
@@georgianmobster6761 Yes, they are budget friendly Zeiss lenses that are pretty compact for the quality. Many Indie films shoot on them however huge budget movie usually shoot on something better.
No. Red raw has way more flexibility for post and looks much more cinematic in my opinion. I shoot with both cameras and they're great in different ways for different projects.
I haven't shot with a raw recorder for that camera so I don't know for sure but I think it depends on the compression ratio you're using with the Red...4:1 has far greater detail than 14:1 for instance.
Yeah - I'm not sure how many stops the camera has. The first shot had direct sunlight on her arm in a dark interior and I was exposing for her face but it may just be my lack of skill with grading.
Just saw your work on your channel and I gotta say, your videos are amazing! I could definitely see how this is "rubbish" when Niky's work is 10 times better than this!
