It's a good lens, even today it's a bargain too using EF or RF mount. I have no problems using this it's right up where it needs to be in performance and optics
Great info, thank you. I was able to pick one of these up 2nd hand for around $300, you might even be able to find it even cheaper. What a deal for an L lens, and you are completely right - intending to use it for landscape and outdoor mainly so the higher f-stop is fine and don't even really want the IS either - often turn it off anyways for landscape work. I think it'll double nicely for some portraits as well.
At that price it's a steal almost! Some moan it's not weather sealed, never had a problem myself. If you look at the new RF F4 it's a ton more expensive and optically doesn't seem to have any advantage over this. I can see a lot more of these being sold if Canon do a sensor IS lower end camera. Either way if you're out and about in daytime the lack of IS isn't a show stopper, those F2.8's are quite heavy to lug around. 70-200m is always a solid choice for portraits I don't use 85mm's myself I find these lenses are much more flexible with the variable focal length
Thanks for the support. Sometimes it takes a while to build up views on photo items Seems most of the big channels don't do reviews anymore - tend to go with click bait type videos. Not my thing so I'll concentrate on actual items ;-D
I bought a canon 90 D.will this lense be a good choice for canon 90D because I got an offer for used one or do you have any other options to choose for 90 D? Thanks
It's a good lens I find it optically right up there even on APS-C cameras. Tamron do a 70-210mm with VC if you need IS I think the Canon is slightly better though so if the price is right on the Canon go for it
That's the problem, for many who consider this. Personally, I think the IS F4 70-200mm is too expensive for what it is new. In some places it's over double the price, not worth it at that cost. I would much rather get a used f/2.8 L IS II which are not too horrible price wise Depends how much you want the IS, it is useful in some situations
@@nicklambracht8138 If you're outside shooting action/events in decent light, or using it for landscapes etc. Then no the IS won't be that useful to you. On the other hand if you are sometimes inside, marginal lighting, people not moving that much, the IS can be very useful. Even at 1/200s, you can still get some camera shake at 200mm, you have to be quite steady. If it's 100 more I'd go with the IS one myself
@@DragonSkaterrr If you are thinking Canon a used 7dii is a good choice, 90d is newer better sensor but AF not quite up there. Nikon have a D500 but it's expensive, then you have other mounts and brands. Most wildlife shooters prefer crop, not all but it's a more obvious choice - and higher fps. Some of the cheaper cameras would do the job, a D7500 might be an alright cheaper option. Sony have some fast E mount crop bodies they are small and shoot fast fps, another possible choice. I'm not a fan of their handling much (even though I own one), but they can be had fairly cheap (s/h A6300 is not too pricey OK buffer and good AF)
@@DragonSkaterrr Really hard but I'd say long term I think Canon will be the top option. Right now Sony have a lot of stuff, it can be reasonably affordable, but I always preferred their A Mount v E mount handling. A6xxx the previous ones A6300/6000 are pretty affordable used and quite good AF, lot of lenses, if you are OK with the smaller body. Don't know about Nikon Z, I have some doubts about Nikon long term. Then you have micro 4/3 personally I think APS-C makes more sense. Then you have Fuji a bit different tried a few, lenses a bit pricey. I would look around at videos and review see what grabs you it's quite a personal thing IMO I suggest good used gear is the right path saves a ton of money, and you can buy from a deal to get a warranty if that bothers you. Otherwise you can't go wrong with EOS Canon DSLR's lot of glass and bodies and pretty nice prices on gear if you buy used. Even an 80d might be an OK buy at the right price. Use the adapter for EOS to R later on opens up the mirrorless options without re-buying lenses.
The value of a video to viewers is what counts. The problem with the light videos is the drop off in views heavily after 6-12 months. Lens reviews are very steady if not as dramatic in views short term. In a few years I'll probably have more views on this lens review than I do on some of the lights. This channel isn't about lights it's about stuff that interests me, that includes photography and anything else that might help someone by providing information.
