nice thanks man just plundered the attic with my dad and recovered his old canon eos 50E, went straight to the store to get a battery and some film and gonna start shooting some pics this weekend :D Great overview and explanation i didnt wanna read the endless long manual
I've had my EOS 50 since 1996. Just earlier this year, I took it out of its decade-long retirement, and it still works. In addition, I picked up an EOS 55 and an EF 28-80 lens for under US$80.
This is a really good review of this beautiful camera. Clear audio and video, with accurate commentary. I've had mine a few months, lucky enough to get a mint condition with added battery grip (AA). Thoroughly enjoyed the video, and learned a few things along the way, many thanks.
I now have collected 4 of these, all purchased at about $40AUD. Very cheap for an awesome camera. Plus I got talked into purchasing a EOS 5 😍. I think if you can purchase a few of these cheap then you're also going to have parts for the future to keep them running. The most amusing point of these is the fact that buying a replacement eye pad can be more expensive than finding the complete body. Make sure you find one with the eye pad.
I've got myself one of these too. Found one on ebay for free, so I only had to pay 5€ for shipping. It was for free because the hook for the rear door was broken, so another 9€ and I had my camera ready to go. 👍
I managed to get one for very cheap, but with the seemingly very common broken film door latch. I never would've bought one otherwise so I'm not complaining, but I'd love to get it properly fixed. It's an upgrade from my 650
Thanks for the review. Someone gave me one, they were going to throw it out. Box, flash, and everything. I don't think it was ever used. Very light weight but does feel solid and well made. I haven't used it yet but will put it through its paces this summer. I was worried about that rattle sound and was happy to hear it's normal. I also own an Elan 7 which I use occasionally with smaller, lightweight lenses. I have an EOS 1 as well which I use the 200mm f/2.8 and the 35-350 on it.
Hello Andrew Watson, Thank you for your comment and sharing your experience with this camera. I believe there is a button cell in the camera for maintaining such data but even so 20 years is impressive! Did it still have the main 2CR5 battery in it? That would keep data for quite a long time I should think. Kind regards MVC
Just bidding for a 50e hope I win it.... Great video and like the voice over...... Yes I imagine the date imprint is a pretty useless feature these days.... Why didnt Canon realise that they would run out of runway......with this feature I wonder??
Hi! I have a question…. I would like to know if there’s any problem when I change the camera lens in this camera. Is it possible that some light can enter in the film? Thanks from Barcelona
Hello virginianv39, Thank you for your comment and question. In short no, there is no issue in changing the lens while there is a film in the camera. The only qualification to that is obviously don't fire the shutter with a film in and no lens on. Kind regards MVC
Great video, I just bought one and I'm about to test it. Just one question, and I'm sorry if I missed it on the video, but what's the function of the button right above the control dial on the back of the camera?
Hello Gustavo Borges, Thank you for your comments. I think you are referring to the self timer button which also cycles between timer and ir remote function. All the best MVC
Hello Harry Gilliland, Thank you for your comments on the 380EX. I have to say I was not sure at first but looking into to it you are right. High speed flash, cool! The 380EX also works with e EOS 3 and IX7 (remember them?). It was the first E-TTL flash from Canon. Thanks for the input. MVC
Thd EOS 100 was the first one with the dial on the back cover. The EOS 5 can be bought very cheaply and is rather nice yo use. The 600 is my personal favorite though.
so im trying to learn with my mom's camera and its a EOS 50e but mine has a little pannel in the back where it says rec. im so confused because these are not supposed to record and i cant find any other 50e with this feature
Hi Theo Traut, Thank you for your comment. Not sure what it is you are describing, maybe drop me a photo to mostlyvintagecameras@gmail.com and I'll see if I can identify it. All the best MVC
@@mostlyvintagecameras4323 I think that this will be a model with a "databack" and the "rec" button will be for imprinting the time and date stamp on the frame. This can be safely ignored as it will no longer give the correct date.
Hello Mamiyapress, Thank you for your comment. Sorry to hear things didn't work out for you on your 50e purchase. You really need a return option or be prepared to find issues. In my view "untested" or similar usually "faulty". Better luck next time. All the best MVC
Hello Skullerhead, thank you for your comment. In short, yes you can. The flange distance on the EF mount makes it very versatile for adapted lenses. You might only get Manual or Apature priority in stopped down metering. Kind regards MVC
@@mostlyvintagecameras4323 I'm asking you that because I have one and i tryed but I don't know why it doesn't work with manual lenses, i click for taking the photo but it won't take the photo or going to the next frame (I'm in M mode) Can you tell me what I'm dong wrong? Maybe there is some mode to enable? I can't find an answer anywere on this topic for eos analog cameras
Hello shanghai, please see video link below for the answer to this question. Thank you fir your comment. kind regards MVC ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Me1no1Jzvfk.html
Hello Kingtut, Thank you for your comment. A P or green square mode will get you good results with little effort. There's no reason not to try them all but if you move away from P or green square just keep an eye on your shutter speed. It needs to 60 or more as a rule of thumb. In fact this is true in the full auto modes as well! Have fun MVC
