Marco thanks for another great lens review, always straight forward to the point, the images and footage were amazingly great. Really nice work, I love your videos.

Thanks for the review! Really informative! In the process of buying a Canon A-1 and it comes with an extra 28mm, very excited to try it out!

Very nice video again, Marco! I have the breech lock version, and that, and the EF mount 28 are my favourite 28s. For build quality, the older lens is the nicest. I love Canon FD lenses, but my experience is that many of them are hard to find, and rather expensive. A cheaper, good alternative is Minolta rokkor lenses.
@MarcoAries
@MarcoAries 2 года назад
Yes, especially in the last couple years FDs have become quite popular and prices have inflated. I keep hearing good things about Rokkors, but I haven't found one, yet...

Hello Marcos, I bought the Canon 50mm and 28mm 2.8 both FD mounts, surely it was because of your unbiased positive review. I just decided to go into the vintage glass way for my BMPCC 4K Micro 4/3 mount. How did you get rid of the mold/fungus in your lens? I got a couple of Minolta Rokkor's that would benefit from your knowledge about getting rid of mold/fungus. Please, I need your help.
@MarcoAries
@MarcoAries 4 года назад
Well, first of all I'm happy you got them and wish you to have a good time with them! Concerning fungus and mold, I don't really do anything fancy, to be honest. I just use some no name lens cleaner I got on Amazon and a microfiber cloth, and it seems to work fine so far. Some people use Isoprpyl alcohol but I haven't run into mold so resistant that needed that!

❤Nice review! You should try the FD 28-50 f3.5 and 24-35 f3.5 two of the best FD zooms, sharp wide open and parfocal. You can also get the early chrome nose 35mm f2 concave at a good price and is optically identical to the SSC version.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for them!

It looks almost modern, it has the canon FD color cast but lightly. I would say kinda brown/tan. Which is way more classy than the modern warm red sunset canon colors. Definitely a nice lens, maybe not if you are looking for a heavy vintage look.

hi how do you keep the constant focus on moving subjects since this being a manual lens? able to share? especially with a gimbal
@MarcoAries
@MarcoAries 4 года назад
Actually, that wasn't on a gimbal, it was just me walking backwards ;) The stabilized sensor in my Sony a6500 does a great job at smoothing things up! To answer your question, it's pretty simple: if you are standing still and the subject is moving, just rack focus (if on a gimbal you can use motorized focusing gears), if both you and the subject are moving, for as long as you keep the same distance you don't need to focus at all ;)

Hey Marco, thank you very much for that great video. I just recently got a Canon FD 28mm gifted and wanted to see what I can do, but unfortunately it doesn't fit my 40D. Maybe you are someone stumbling across this comment might give me a direction of what type of adapter I have to buy to be able to use it on my 40D. Once again, thank you alot for the great video, keep it up. Best regards from Germany! :)

Hi! So, yeah, adapting FD to EF is a pain, you basically got to have the lens rehoused by companies like Simmod. There are some adapters, but I'm not familiar with them given that I use Sony cameras, which along M4/3 are the easiest to adapt lenses to. If you are on Facebook, I would advice joining the group "vintage lensesforvideo", I've seen people discussing this exact topic many times 😉

@@MarcoAries I got an adapter that works perfect. Bought it in a german online shop. The brand of the adapter is Quenox I think. 40€ and I don't think I lose a lot of IQ with it, can recommend it :)

No problems with infinity focus?

Try leaving the lens in the sun a few days. I hear that gets rid of most of the mould at least for a short amount of time anyway. Catch A2M building FD collection!
@MarcoAries
@MarcoAries 4 года назад
Yeah, I've heard that too. Needless to say, it didn't work. But it doesn't affect image quality, so I don't mind that much
@jayzn1931

@@MarcoAries You need copper money...look at Ken Wheelers video about removing fungus :) but ofc if it's not affecting the IQ, not important.

What kind of Canon FD do you have-- is it the one with a chrome nose? If it is all black--do the aperture and focus numbers embossed or printed?
@MarcoAries
@MarcoAries 4 года назад
It is the all black version, you can see it at 1:40, and the numbers are embossed.

@@MarcoAries Thanks , it's the 1976 version.

It's the less sharp and more saturated version. The printed one is the newer version which has more contrast. Your video helped me choose the one that I will get. Thanks a lot.

@@mypixelgarden All the samples are straight out of camera, the intro with the model was color graded. I don't remember the exact settings, but the intro was shot in s-log. For the samples I stick to the standard color profile.
