Really sucks that Canon didn't give us a heads up! Been looking online for months about when the Mark III would come out and nothing. Held out for months and ended up buying one the month. Total bummer.
Looks like a great camera and the mic jack is one big addition. Sonys going to have to lift their game now. The Image Stabilization did not look that impressive I noticed a lot of jitteriness still
@@Panda.gultom sadly none have made a great in body stabilizer. Imagine if someone managed to get the amazing stabilisation that the Hero 7 black and Osmo Action have working on a camera such as the Rx100 or G7X range :)
@@OzzieTech my problem with that means the product would be even more prone to damage. I've had two bodies with ibis from Panasonic and have had shutter shock failures. In also the type to carry my gear around like it's a baby so I was extremely disappointed when my second body had the same exact issue before the two year mark.
@@ryanthomas9306 actually if they manged to get digital stabilisation working like it does with the gopro hero 7 black and osmo action would mean less moving parts and less changes of getting damage.
wow. had been waiting for it for quiet while. Can't wait for it to be available in the local market to see the price. All the shortcomings of M2 has been fixed in this model of G7X. I hope my new videos on my channel will come with this camera.
It is the same sensor as in Sony RX100 Mark IV. Earlier versions used Mark II-III sensor. Sony keeps the newest sensors to themselves, they would have better autofocus. Apparently they have removed the rubber covered cut out for the power cord so the Mark II PSU does not work, one has to use USB.
Oh shit! Canon finally did it! And I just bought the a6400 bc the mark ii wasn’t up to Sony’s level but this changes things! What’s the price point on the mark3?
The thing that backed me off from the Sony A6400 was the lack of an in-body stabilizer (IBIS). This is a critical feature if you intend to use the camera for vlogging. Also, Sony just announced the RX100 VII, which includes IBIS and finally, an external mic input. I just hate the hefty price tag.
TIMagicProd I completely agree and the ibis is one thing I like on My G7x ii, but ive learned to be steadier now. The a6400 with kit lens is still 20% cheaper than the mark7 so I don’t know why anyone would choose that over the a6400 or a6500 with ibis.
Given the rise of 4k60fps, and fantastic video stabilisation, on new phones and action cams, I was hoping for something a bit more exciting from Canon here given the price.
Great review as usual. I now realize why Canon didn't put that 120 fps in any of their official release announcement stuff. It's so soft. Cool about the 4k with no crop and mic jack. Thank you for putting this together. It was really helpful.
The internal mic sounds really bad. I hope that the internal preamp is not the cause of this because if it was, even using an external mic will suffer. Also, is there a continuous recording limit for video at 1080 60p? I certainly hope not (the EU-driven 29 min 59 sec)!
Some comments I have seen for this video is 1) Asking for an APS-C Sensor. For a point and shoot in 2019, we shouldn't expect it to have an APS-C sensor. A 1 inch Sensor itself is good enough, when compared to our Cell Phone Cameras. 2) Complains about no Hot Shoe to mount mic. Seriously? Who expects such a compact camera to it? The mic socket itself is something to be appreciated. Clamps can be attached to mount external mic. 3) 4K Stabilization is not good. This is something yet to be reviewed more once the camera is released. Also Canon might be able to improve on it with more firmware updates, if not limited by hardware. 4) Bad Auto Focus. It the review is correct, then this is something Canon should have done better. But with Digic 8 Processor, I hope Canon has scope to improve it with firmware updates. Over All, Canon has listened to us users and given us the most asked for features - Mic Input and 4K. Only thing to be confirmed is the price. Hope they maintain the same price as for G7x MII, and do not bump up the price much higher.
The mark 2 is better than this. After all this time, it's unfortunate Canon could only improve a couple things, which aren't even very difficult to do.
Tech1Tv I’m curious what codecs and 4K options the mark iii has. The a6400 and gh5 although much different categories, produce amazing 4K bc of the different bit rates
Hi! Can somebody tell why Canon G-series cameras doesn't have pixel remapping feature ("sensor clean")? I think it's a relatively simple thing. EOS cameras has it! But I don't want a big camera... Someday any (even very good camera) need the remapping process. But the warranty will be expired to that time. And (in our lands) the service centers doesn't do this thing. I've didn't heard about that.
maybe the rode videomic ME would work . doesnt need a hotshoe. it's literally for smartphones. I just hope the G7x has the same mic input as the phones
@@astigmatik that or the rode wireless go... that said if your holding it via grip, "vloggin style", you could easy run lepal cable up your sleeve... not really the best option, but still better than the in built
Eliza Galang according to canon, a software update is coming out by the end of this month to fix the issue on autofocus so we’ll just have to wait and see
Hi again! Do you if it is possible to use Canon G7X II (not III) connected to a computer and use it to broadcast a live video? For example using OBS or eCamm or some other video broadcast software? If Canon G7X II does not allow that, I really would like to know what camera you suggest in order to accomplish a live video broadcast through a computer. Thanks in advance.
Damn it!!!!! I have the second version and there is no reason for me to upgrade... BUT I WANT THIS!!!! Lol 4k, mic jack, and 120fps! Sucks that there is no 24fps option! What’s up with that? Hopefully they can be added
I heard that the Mark iii can be charged through the camera. Does the kit include the wire to do that, or does the Mark iii use a battery charger, like the Mark ii?
Great review but you fell short of mentioning the price. I film a lot of my opening scenes, time lapses and B-roll scenes with my G7Xmk2 before switching to gopro for the action scenes.. I actually record most audio with a rode mobile mic and my mobile phone and sync it later on because the audio is so bad on the mk2. The addition of a Mic input is a major reason for me to upgrade, so too is the 120fps. I'm pretty sure my Mk2 max's out at 50fps. Do you have a ballpark figure for price?
Hey Robbie. Absolutely, pricing is here: www.digidirect.com.au/cameras/compact-cameras/canon-powershot-g7x-mark-iii-black Note that is in Australian dollars
@digidirect can u please suggest me which one is best for travel vlogging either mark II or Mark III... And DPAF issue has been solved with the update...i have primerly to use for travel vlogging videos. please reply...thanks in advance..
@ digiDirect your demo of stabilization is jittery and does not show the true stabilization quality as it actually is. Can't imagine why a supposed expert reviewer would use a frame rate from 1927 chosen to support audio recording on celluloid film. Any true expert would know that "cinematic quality" has little to do with framerate and is a combination of lighting, framing, angle, sound quality, editing, story-flow, setting, surroundings, exposure, and other non-framerate factors related to the final goal of the clip. An expert should know that RU-vid does not employ Telecine 3:2 pulldown as streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc. use do smooth out 24-fps movies. You should know that outside of a 24-fps or 120-fps monitor standard 30/60-fps monitors have a math problem with 24-fps. You do an injustice to Canon's product by introducing jitter/judder.
the video quality looks great! i think i should upgrade. as for the mic input, the rode videomic ME should work perfectly with no need for a cold/hotshoe. or at least i hope so!
...with no way to mount it unless you wait for a 3rd party manufacturer to make an L-bracket or a cage. But that is an extra cost of about $60-$80 and will add weight; which defeats the purpose of such a tiny camera.
@@demarcusdavis1257 A cage? $60-$80! Have you not heard of a lapel mic? That easily clips on to your shirt goes direct into camera. Or better still, I have a small bracket now for $4 off ebay that holds the camera and video micro mic, but was useless because it had nowhere to plug in, this camera lets you do that.
@@Cellcell.22 I stand corrected. The Rode Videomic ME is external shotgun mic is one you can use that is of any worth. The rear portion of the mic's male jack comes off so that you can plug it into this camera (It's original design is for mounting on a cell phone). You could use cheaper smartphone mics, but sound quality will be an issue beyond a foot away from the mic itself.
Put in a pop-up viewfinder and I will buy the G7X in a heartbeat. I don't want to buy a RX100. I love my S100 and its size, and would love to stick with Canon.
@digiDirect Sadly though it doesn’t have the same kind of computer inside it as a SmartPhone like an iPhone X. It’s Digic 8 Image Processor is different. I think the AUTO mode isn’t quite as good at capturing that professional picture as compared to an iPhone especially in close quarters. Hmm...
No, unfortunately I have to go with something else as I am need of a camera before the end of the month, hence why I contacted Canon about it. I simply cannot wait.
Nah, never was in the Canon 1" premium compact space either. But I agree it's oversight. They get the sensor from Sony as they don't make 1 inchers themselves, so no DPAF. In fact, this is probably the stacked CMOS sensor we've seen in the Sony RX100M4. Which means it has no type of phase detect AF and is contrast based only.
Can someone please help me? I just bought this camera and I can’t record in 120fps. I have tried everything to make it work but in only tells me I can record in 100fps. What did I do wrong?
Good info...thanks. Please consider slowing down your speaking speed...you tend to get going and talk really fast. It is OK to pause...it give us (the viewers) time to absorb what you're saying.
mrpepperman And how exactly are you going to use a lens cap when the lens sits flush. Who also wants the hassle of a lens cap ... only dolts like you that can’t use a camera without damaging it perhaps!
@@neli5p Thanks for being so polite, actually the lens doesn't sit flush, and I'm an oldie that's used to having a lens cap, and I do care about my gear. But hey I must be stupid because I had to look up dolt as its not a word used in my vocabulary.
mrpepperman if anything you need glasses because when retracted the lens DOES sit flush ... so you’d have to put a ‘cap’ over the whole lens mound ... hardly practical or aesthetically pleasing! Why on earth would you choose to do that on a compact as opposed to the current method I’ve no idea .. and thank goodness Canon don’t either.
I presumed you were talking about the whole lens mount, I’m terribly sorry I misunderstood you, hope you do well at the charm school... my preference would be a lens cap, yours isn’t. Let’s leave it at that.
@@vince.lesremarques i think u misunderstood. mic output is good. no where did i say it wasn't. fact remains the mk iii is a ii with 4k most dont need and a mic output. if ppl wanna upgrade just for the mic upto them.
1. The demo video like vlogger - where is the image stabilization? it's totally shaken. 2. No hot/cold shoe? why? to cut 10 cents of cost? I really don't understand why people who want to vlog would buy it. Go buy G85.
