Thank you Gil for the setup - that google app password setup was the missing link. Makes sense since we live in a world of multi-factor authentication!

Thank you! This is the only tutorial online that I've found to work. The magic is using the Google generated app password rather than the username/email password. I spent 2+ hrs with Canon technical support without success, but this tutorial helped me in 10 min. Loved the cameo from the dog and bird as well!

Cool! I am very glad you found it useful. I also pent a lot of time with Canon tech support, but that was due to a problem setting up the Scan To File feature. The problem, as it turns out, is I was using a "/" as a directory path separator, like we have in UNIX, Linux Operating Systems. Me, using a MAC, used the "/" for the caonon setup by doing aa Copy/Paste, wshere I was copying the path string using the Finder|Info output path info. It turns out I needed to replace the "/" character with "\" like we have in DOS and Windows. I later submitted my findings to Canon tech support in the hope it would help them save some grief. The person I reported the info to just kind of blew me off as if what I found on my own, after even more time burned following my session with Canon tech support previously, was not any big deal. I did a video on that setup for Scan To File also, and hope it will save other folks lots of wasted time and frustration also.

Yeah, I had scoured other videos looking for a solution at first also, but the ones out there were for Gmail for Business, not consumer level Gmail. I finally found some info between two other posts that worked, and I decided to merge the info together, plus my own findings, with a more clear video. Apparently it has been quite useful to a lot of folks - which is what I was hoping to accomplish. Most of my videos in my channel relate to First Generation Mustangs and Shelbys for diagnostic and repair matters (1965 - 1973), so this computer video stuff is a bit of a departure from where I normally focus my efforts. But, the desire is the same - share useful info in order to help others.

I am glad the information helped you. I can hardly believe the hours I spent on the target directory nomenclature, including the time I spent with Canon Tech Support and getting nowhere. The Gmail setup I found in a few other videos, but they were all assuming the Gmail account was business, class, which has a different setup in the Gmail configuration. I just don;t get how Canon could have had their documentation written where these common setups are laid out clearly. It is possible, even likely, they figured folks would figure everything out and do like I and others did - share it on RU-vid. No matter. I am glad my little contribution was helpful. I appreciate your sharing that with me.

I am glad I was able to help you gain some good value for your purxchase. These ImageClass machines are really nice. The instructions leave a lot to be desired, however. But, luckily with the ability to enjoin information from others on nearly any topic, via RU-vid, there is hardly any subject that is not addressed in a helpful manner. All I wanted to do is share in some of the benefit I could be to others. I know how helpful RU-vid has been to me on other subjects...

Kudos, sir! I knew about the app specific password, but I was forgetting to go to the network settings and change the SMTP port. I hate how the Google Drive scan buttons are set up, so the scan to email makes it easier to make color/B&W, and single or double-sided copies SO much easier. Thanks for sharing!

@@gilberthale7777 Totally agree! My previous machine, a Brother, did Google Drive storage a lot better, but it turned out to be a piece of junk. This is a real game changer for us, as we scan a plethora of documents, and having to re-invent the wheel just to do a duplex scan had me trying to figure out this method. I forgot that the machine defaulted to port 25, and expected that setting to be in the email/iFax settings; not in network That's what I get for assuming!

I totally get how good it feels to be able to find other folks who have walked in my shoes before me, and appreciate it when they try to pass their experience and solution on for others. So, this is my way of giving back when I feel there is a stone left unturned. Such was the case with this subject, as the other videos I saws were contered on using Google business email, which is a different setup altogether. Then I stumbled on a post by someone who pulled off the email magic when using consumer Gmaial, and felt I ought to try to put together a step by step video on how to get that issue handled. I was sure there were others besides me looking for help, and Canon tech support was essentially of no help.

I have been using Send2FAX.com for over 15 years, and have found it to be an excellent serive - and they provide an 800 # for our account no less. Excellent. I am glad that approach worked out for you. Why it is Canon does not have more clarity with their documentation is beyond me. I can only surmise it is because they anticipated consumers would find a way to make things work, then share with other consumers via RU-vid. I am glad I learned what I did from various sources, and saw a need for thed non-business Google gmail, as opposed to the business Google email setups - and then took the time to do a RU-vid for "the rest of us." HI Paul! You and I had likely gone down similar paths initially, where the RU-vid videos I came across showing how to set up Scan to Email with Gmail just was not matching what my setup screen were showing. I realized in one of them the posting mentioned the Gmail was the For Business account version. So I began to hunt for Gmail Personl version for any different info. I found the info, but it did not deal well with the Canon side of the setup. So, once I had gotten my system to work with Scan to Gmail I thought the least I can do is set up an easier, more clear cut video (for the rest of us). I had not noticed my phone # appearing in the video. I will need to look for that. Thank you for the heads up inn letting me know my post helped you, and for taking the time out to let me know you found the posting useful.. Ciao!

I have been using Send2FAX as a solution for incoming and outgoing FAXes for several years. Having sold our business and retiring I decided to keep that service for another few years to see if ever anyone had need for it with me ever again. In may, however, set up iFAX on the Canon MF644cdw just to be prepared to switch to not. We have VOIP for our land line, which does not play well with FAX or telephone modem communications. So, the iFAX feature may end up making sense to pursue. I am surmising the documentation on how to set up and run iFAX is as bleak as the info on setting up scan to email for gmail. If that is the case I will no doubt do a video on how to set that up also. I am glad you found this mine video useful. For me, now in my sunset years, more than ever it is all about live, learn, share.

MSN will most likely be using a different port numbering schema. And likely a different protocol setup as well. That said, I am traveling all the rest of this week until early next week. I have my iPhone to use for communication and a laptop I can use in our hotels rooms during our journey. I will do what I can to out together the setups you will need. But, although canon tech support was less than helpful with me the times I called, it may be worthwhile reaching out to them. In any event, I will try to do right by you. This may take more than a day for me to research. Luckily I am not driving so perhaps I can use the iPhone as a hot spot and connect to the internet on the laptop while Lynda is driving. If so that will expand my time available to find the setups you will need Hang in there. Help mid on the way. And, believe me it is worth the effort. It is a nice printer and scanner system.
@gilberthale7777
@gilberthale7777 9 месяцев назад
Incidentally, I believe you have both duplex printing and duplex scanning capability. On our 644 model we have both duplex capabilities. But the default setting is for single side printing and scanning. I wanted to have duplex scanning and duplex printing operating as the defaults. I ended up calling canon tech support on those and got the correct answers with no grief. Lynda (wife) did not want duplex printing for a project (labels) and not took me a while to figure out to to alter the File|Print settings to print to one side only through the application print driver on the PC. But once I figured it out it was easy to replicate and it worked perfectly. I guess the message is that even once you have your print to email working your journey is not yet over. The good news is the printer and scanner drivers are quite capable and you ought to be able to do pretty much anything you want, once you play with it enough to figure it out. Fun, fun, fun. But well worth the effort. The canon image class machines are that good. Seriously. One final word of mention. Your timers that came with the printer are known as Starter Toners. They have far less toner than replacement toners. It is best to order your toners in advance and always keep a timer for each color in reserve. Further, if you can get extra content toners it is usually with it. You can get oem toners if you like. I opted (for the past 12 years now) to get high quality 3rd party toner despite the ominous warnings from printer Manufacturers. Never a problem. Following is where I get them from. When you place your order tell Rob that Gil Hale referred you. I don’t get a commission or anything like that. I just like him to know I am out there trying to point folks in his direction. Okay, I found a few RU-vid videos where the person who made and posted the video(s) on how to seet up email settingss to use various Microsoft related email applications, which include Live.com, MSN.com, and several other MS protocols. I am not going to be back at my place to put together a comprehensive How To step-by-step video on this relating to the Canon ImageClass machines for at least a week. There for I have two suggestions. One is to look at the video in the link below, and take note of the port #s, and various configuration info re: protocols and settings used. Once you have that open up the Canon config menu for network, then for email, configurations and plug in the relevant info. But wait! There's a viable alternative! And one I feel is jst as practical. You could set up (for free) a Google Gmail account, and apply the settings in my video you already watched. If you concerned someone may send a reply that will go to an unwatched Gmail account, no problem. In the Gmail configuration you can set up an automatic Forward To email address, so any replies to your Canon built and sent (via the Gmail email account) Scan To Email documents will end up going to your MSN account. That is a definite work-around, but a viable one. If I were in your shoes I would give option #2 a lot of consideration if I could not get Option #1 to work with minimal effort. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FTudk_4aSv8.html
