Nice video, but it's difficult to choose the EOS M50 when Canon has essentially abandoned the M series, and I think the Sony A6500 is more appealing for me. But, I'll give you a little bit of hope for this camera. The EOS M50 is one of the EOS M series cameras that uses EOS Firmware, beside the EOS M original and M2 ("Other EOS M only uses Powershot Firmware"), which means the EOS M50 is compatible with Magic Latern, so better 4K video or even RAW video is possible in the future.
Great stills camera in terms of image quality. For beginners its a great starter camera if ur coming from a smartphone or a cheap p&s. If ur coming from a DSLR and looking for an upgrade, dont bother. Maybe go for a 80 or 90D. My dealbreakers: -the battery life sucks. The amazing 10fps stills in one shot mode is ruined cuz youll end up draining the battery within an hour of shooting bursts. As a walkaround camera youre definitely gonna need to bring a couple extra batteries -my biggest peeve: the ergonomics is terrible. Its a very tiny fit in my hand, almost feels like a toy. And I have averaged sized hands. It only has one exposure dial which is a tiny ring around the shutter button and it feels really loose and cheap. If youre even just a hobbyist photographer ur not gonna like having to go to the touchscreen menu 90% of the time to change something. If youre a beginner just wanting some great SOOC jpegs as a walkaround camera do yourself a favor and get the 22mm pancake lens with this and use it as a point & shoot camera, nothing else
I sold mine to buy Christmas presents for my family in 2020. Wanted to make it a great Christmas for them. I don't regret the decision, but I sure do miss the camera. It was almost a photography / video Konami code. It was so easy to get great images.
I just finished my first road trip with my M50 Mk II. It did almost everything well. Video was great. Landscapes and portraits were great. But when it came to shots of the Vegas strip at night, it couldn’t match my phone camera. But I think it passed the test and will be my travel camera while the M6 II continues to be my street camera home in NYC. Still great in 2022? Oh yes. If I had $4000 I'd get a Fujifilm X-T4, but I am committed to Canon M. It's more than good enough for years to come. Plus, it's my camera for important Zoom meetings when I want to be seen clearly.
For me I think is better to go with an efs camera like an Canon SL3, for compatibility, and then make the road to an R10, R7 or RP with ef lenses and adapter.
I've been really considering grabbing an m50 as an upgrade and this video definitely sold me on it, one thing i noticed though in the video that i'd like to point out, if someone were to use the m50 for live streaming, they'd have to go with USB connectivity compared to micro hdmi as it does not have clean HDMI. the m50 mark ii does have clean HDMI but thats an extra $100-200 just for clean HDMI
Great video! New follower here. I see that you have a lot of videos on Canon. Do you prefer Canon over Sony? I’m thinking about getting the Sony A7iv but then trying to figure out what lens mount will max out the use should I get a professional cinema camera down the road. Thoughts? Thanks!
I personally use Sony more than Canon (I have an a7s iii, and I used to use an FS7), but both make fantastic cameras. I would either go with an a7iv so later on you can upgrade to an FX3, FX6, or FX9 cinema camera, or go with a Canon R6 so later on you can upgrade to a C70, or a future Canon cinema camera that will most likely have the Canon RF lens mount.
Bought one. The camera is cool, screen, evf and feel are great. I took it back 6 days later. Was not happy with the quality. Genuinely slot of phones can do similar quality.
Many RU-vidrs do that to make their videos more concise. I doubt many people want to hear awkward pauses and breaths when recording/watching long videos. It’s unnecessary so RU-vidrs get rid of those moments to seem more professional. Personally, I found his talking speed was understandable and clear. But if you think he’s talking too fast, you can slow down the video speed or turn on captions!
