This is the first video with actual samples and proof instead of some idiot just going on to make the video last 10min with empty content. your video is much better then Think Medias video
Thanks for this video with the comparison. Convinced me to look for the original M50 since it's cheaper and there are more of the first edition to be found secondhand than the mark II.
Only three relevant differences. Servo mode with Eye AF. Good for photographers. Clean HDMI output. Good for streamers. Video af a little more snappier. Good for videomakers. The biggest difference in my opinion is the Servo mode for photos. Any photographer should choose the mark II. These points actually make the mark II much more interesting to me. I switched from my M50 to the EOS RP basically for these 3 reasons and for better low light performance. Now that the mark II addressed these 3 issues and Sigma launched the f/1.4 trio for EF-M, I'm considering switching from my RP to the M50II.
This has been an exhausting week as I attempt learn about photography and pick out my first serious camera. Settled on the M50 but wasn't sure if I should pay $50 more for the Mark II. Three different videos basically all tells me "No, don't pay the $50". This was the only video that explicitly recommended buying the original over Mark II. Everything I heard in 3 different videos had me leaning that direction, but your recommendation seal the deal. I have no interest in any of the advantages of the Mark II with the HDMI the only thing that might come up in the future, in which case I will probably be needing to buy a better camera anyway. Thanks for the video.
Damn, this vis saved me from a fraude. He was selling a m50 under a mark II title. But the cosmetic difference (side imprint) on the left was there like on the mk1
I hate how Canon markets these towards rich TikTokers, this camera is perfectly capable of taking amazing photos and video but Canon doesn't seem to think so. You can see this in their lens selection for EF-M as well, it took Sigma and Laowa to make good, fast lenses at multiple different focal lengths. It really annoys me and if there was a different apsc mirrorless system this cheap, I would definitely move away from my M50.
Comparing the specs details there seem to be below the surface improvements. E.g. The metering brightness range for the M50 is 2EV greater for still images. The number of pictures one can take has increased, etc. Overall I think the extra money for the Mark II is probably justified.
I've used m50 for 2yrs now i think or more. Very good camera and cheap. Who would've thought that I've used this camera for most of my studio work and even music video. Have certain lacks but still, for the price point, Great camera, I can't complain.
This is so helpfull since i'm going to buy one today and i was wondering which one. Im going to choose the original with a better objectieve. Thanks so much 🌹
Hi! :) Did you buy it? I'm not sure what to buy, the m50 is almost 90€ cheaper. I won't use it for video (for now), I just want it for photography. Thanks
Thanks so much for this comparison, because it definitely saved me about 200$, because the original M50 is now on discount :D One thing you forgot was the fact that the new one has the option to stream to RU-vid directly via Wifi :), a very niche thing for sure, but just wanted to mention it ^^.
Cheers for the video, I was looking at the original M50 and then noticed the new on and I looked at the info on it and it felt like the same camera. I'm glad I watched your video as that just proved my thoughts, definitely not worth the extra $300 for me. If they done a IBIS then that would be a good improvement for me, canon has only made some slight software changes and changed the look slightly then finished off by putting mark II on the outside. They must just have a load of the old M50 they are trying to shift or make money off of, something sneaky is going on for sure.
As I am looking for a not very expensive modern camera for a video, I would say that I like Mark's II video and autofocus more than the original M50, but, but I am not ready to pay for Mark II more (cause changes are minor). I would like to add some money and take M6 Mark II instead of M50 Mark II =)
4:48 You know, this was visible to me when you were doing the video comparison (I have sharp eyes) - so when you compared the stills, I paused it, opened the mac's color meter, and the MKII was definitely brighter for the same pixels. For it to be noticeable on a side by side like this, much less with the color picker, there has to be some kind of improvement there. Again, I noticed it in the side by side video and then verified it in the stills.
awesome I thought I made a mistake with buying the M50 I thought I ordered M50ii and already was pissed now after seeing your video I am happy again, hi hi, thanks so much
@@balanced_barrister The listing I bought is back up to 649. Mine still hasn't shipped yet. I bet too many people bought it quickly and they ran out and had to raise the price again.
It is a shame that all the camera manufacturers go out of their way to "OVER MARKET" the same device just to make more money off the consumer. Having used the Canon T6i, Sony A6000, Nikon D7000 I learned much from the camera companies that they have a habit of creating something just a smidge better than the original and feel they can charge consumers much more money for something that works perfectly fine. Thanks for the honest review and non biased perspective on these devices. The message that these companies send to me as well as the consumer is they are "NOT HERE" to help the consumer make a wise decision in choosing the right camera. They are telling me that the original offering has problems, when it does not. Most of us don't really care about the ergonomics of the device, it is nice to have yes, the image quality and video results are what we are after. . If the M50 produces great quality photos then just do a FIRMWARE update that's it. It is 2021 by now one would figure that these camera manufacturers should have everything a photographer needs in the device they choose without making a Mkii, Mkiii, MkIV etc. One does not see that in a Tesla P100D, then a P100-2, then a P100-3, then a P100-4....yes they have different models but they don't keep using the same cookie cutter approach and then rip people off. Canon makes way too many models which is so unnecessary, Nikon is following Canon, Sony is doing better but the leader is Fuji. Canon build quality on all their devices remind me of Target or Walmart and you will find Canon, Nikon and Sony there but not Fuji SLR's. You also won't find Olympus or Pentax at Walmart, Best Buy for a reason. I watched the review videos on the T6i being a great camera, I had it for 3 months and it was garbage. I also had 3 lenses specifically for that camera, the end results were very disappointing. Canon needs to build a camera they don't have to reproduce every year and rip people off just because the dial is painted blue or red.....so dumb.
Thank you! I would like to know if you are using the included lens 15 - 45mm for your test on both cameras? Because one guy is doing review with M50 but he is showing photos taken with other lens!!
Only three. Servo mode with Eye AF. Good for photographers. Clean HDMI output. Good for streamers. Video af a little more snappier. Good for videomakers. The biggest difference in my opinion is the Servo mode for photos. Any photographer should choose the mark II.
@@pterodactylman136 the mk1 will show all the controls and options via hdmi. Its not clean. You can disable most of the options, but the autofocus box will still appear unless you disable autofocus. So, the mk1 only has clean hdmi without autofocus.
comparison shots of 2 identical sensors, I guess the analy retentive folks are finally satsified. LOL. nice review. Canon estore is selling the old m50 with 15-45mm kit lens for $400. very good price for this setup.
Great job! My original M50 body bottom shattered (plastic body)at the tripod screw, I had it on a Peak Design shoulder strap clip i sent it to canon and they wanted $250 to fix it so i was thinking of getting the M50 Mark II, now i may just go to another brand... The camera still works just have to put up with small pieces of plastic breaking off periodically.
I'm pretty confused between canon m50 mark ii and canon 200d mark ii, I'm looking for most probably good photography and sometimes for videos, what would u suggest as both these cameras fall under same price range?
Thanks for the indepth review. The only thing you missed is that you only have to cross your arms to press record on the screen if you're right handed.
So I hear clean HDMI is great for live streaming, but is it also better for at desk recording video since it can record directly to your computer instead of to the memory card?
Thanks for the comparison! I'm looking for a second camera at the moment so I can keep one at my desk and not have to move it around to go shoot footage that isn't just my face. My current plan is to buy a second m50 so this was helpful.
I thought one of the big feature upgrades was the autofocus in 4k video. But I didn't hear that mentioned, and in the side-by-side comparison of focus at 3:55 you didn't mention what resolution this was shot at.
I actually called Canon and spoke to a tech support person. After being put on hold for about twenty minutes... and after he called someone else to make sure... he told me that the M50 Mkii has better autofocus in 4k. It includes eye detection. 1080 is improved as well, although it was really good to begin with, but according to a Canon tech, 4k is a lot better now with regards to auto focus, even though it's still not dual pixel and still contrast based. But eye detection is supposedly in there.
Canon is cheeky about what he does with cameras. The M6 ii also has a trimmed specification and no viewfinder. The perfect combination is the m50 body with the headphone jack and the m6m2 guts, but they will not do it because the r6 will sell worse for them, not to mention the underdeveloped earlier models.
You are right! The truth is: most only a software update. That is a shame and great disapointment. In Europe we have no choice - there is no M50II. OK - we save money. I go on with my M50...
The record button on the screen is good for left handers. I always have to cross my arms to press the record button on the body. Not justifiable enough to buy the mark ll though🙃
@@TbonesTech Thanks for the reply. I wanted to make tech videos ( reviewing Phones, tablets, laptops and consoles) I've gotten the lighting and microphones but the camera is where I have a problem. Really like this M50 mark ii but it's the 4k crop that holds me back.
What you don't mention, and if I understand it correctly, with the original M50 and because it does not have clean HDMI OUT; you will see the focus tracker display in LIVE video streaming applications, unless you switch your lens to manual, and therefore losing all autofocus capabilities. This is really the only issue that the mark II "fixes", and surely this could have been a firmware upgrade.. Looks like the Sony a6400 would be a better option perhaps.
Is it possible to install the firmware from kenon m50m2 to kenon m50?)) Pure hdmi is interesting. Is this a software improvement or at the hardware level? Yes, and what about overheating? On the canon 6mark2, according to the owners, it appears after an hour of continuous shooting, while the m50 does not suffer from this
personally i feel like the m2 has better contrast when it comes to video and photo making the image sharper and clearer. not but much but enough to be noticeable.
