In this episode, I visit Ozone Falls State natural area with my Canon EOS R6 mark II. I used my new RF 14-35 f/4 L IS USM ultrawide lens to do landscape photography of the waterfall and more. I used the Canon Focus Bracketing feature to make these photos. Come with me to Ozone Falls!

Great video. Loved that last shot looking down the log. And you were right. It needed something to anchor it. I guess you’ll do. 🤣🤣

Okay, Phil can stack, but he can't get stacked 🤣 Thanks for this great howto video ! I mostly liked the image at 5:40. Nice to see you adding vignetting .. that's a trick my wife is also not afraid of. .. as you may notice, I have a big backlog of your video's, but I'm still hoping to catch up ;-)

Thank you, Mike! No, I’m still going to visit those places I’m just going to be much more careful, and I’m not going to wear slick sneakers like I did the day I fell. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Great getting some interesting compositions along with the tried and true side view. It's been a while since I have been there I will have to go back soon. I've been trying to get a composition from the top of the falls but It hasn't worked out.

Thank you, Stephen! It is beautiful at the top of the falls, but I haven’t been able to find a composition from up there either.

Loved the video Phil and all the different compositions. Lots of beautiful wooded colors and textures!👏The two shots with you in the picture certainly gives a great perspective of the size of the waterfalls and boulders.

I am a subscriber to your channel. Thanks for the video on composition, it's a great learning. Can you help me understand how to know the stops of light with CPL alone. I am using Haida Pro ii VND+CPL. How to understand the number of stops of light when using both ?
@PhilThach
@PhilThach Год назад
A CPL turned to full polarization usually blocks about as much light as a 1-2 stop ND filter. Thank you!

Hi Phil, just discovered you site. I just got the Mark II so far like it. What is the wireless trigger you use? Could you show how you set up the focus bracket on the camera.
@PhilThach

Hi, I use the BR-E1 trigger. Look for it in the description under "My Gear"

There is no reason to use the in camera focus bracket compilation that limits you to a JPG. Use DPP4 on your computer to compile the CR3 images produced by the camera and save the result as a 16 bit TIFF which will allow you to do what you need to do before limiting yourself to a lossy JPG. This will allow you to adjust the inputs and, more significant, remove bad input images. When you shoot a series starting at the near point and overestimate the number of shots it takes to reach the far subject (if it is less than infinity where the camera will quit anyway) you can delete them and not have excessive background sharpness. This is most important for macro where you really do not want a series all the way to the horizon. To me, the in camera routine is for quick and dirty work only. The DPP4 options include some other controls which you can tweak to improve the results. One allows you how much to specify to favor the near point when two overlap. I am only starting to explore this and have seen no expert help posted on the matter. No one likes DPP4 because it is free and everyone knows nothing free can be worth anything.

I enjoy experimenting with the focus bracket with depth composite feature. If it's not for you, that's totally ok. I may look into the DPP4 program at some point. Thank you!

@@PhilThach Each to their own but bracketing with jpgs and not raw files is a lame feature on the Canon R6. Sure one can post process with jpgs but one pays the price which can be significant in high dynamic shots.
@PhilThach
@PhilThach Год назад
@@lcador9 You are not bracketing with jpgs, you are bracketing with raw files. The output file is a jpg and while I wish there was an option to output a 16-bit TIF, nothing outputs a raw file. The process of bracketing makes the images no longer raw. One other note, the R6 will not make a depth composite jpg, it will only shoot the bracket files. If you want the depth composite made in camera, you'll need the R6 Mark II or R7 and perhaps some other newer than R6 cameras. Thanks for watching!

@@PhilThach Nikon 6/7/9 and other brands auto outputs raw photos for focus stacking in photoshop or other software.
@PhilThach
@PhilThach Год назад
@@lcador9 Yes, that's what the R6 does, but to stack in camera, you'll need the R6 mark II. The R6 Mark II will save all the raw files AND stack them and output a stacked jpg. I have all the raw files that went into making the stacks in the images in this video. I was happy with the in-camera stack so I used that instead of stacking the raw files using photoshop or some other software. So, the "lame" feature you talk about actually does everything you talk about a Z6/7/9 (and D850) does and then it one-ups those awesome Nikons and the R6 by saving the raw files and also stacking them for you if you want it to.
