Outstanding review! As a former Z6ii owner I went A7iv for the customization and lens options and price-to-performance of Tammy and Sigma glass. At heart I'm a Canon guy that adores Nikon colors. The color science on the A7iv and it's 33mp sensor was a great middle ground and easy to work with in post. With the exceptional customization options and "My Menu" on the Sony, I never have to deep dive into the menu architecture, but it is less confusing than the Nikon to me personally. Not quite as intuitive as Canon, but vastly improved over the A7iii. Canon is losing a generation of Camera shooters by not allowing 3rd Party lens development (me included). With a family of 8, I just can't justify the $$$ for Canon RF glass. I could buy EF mount adapted (and the adaptors are excellent), but that seems retroactive. IF Canon opens their mount, I'll be selling the Sony. The lower end options of Canon's lineup (including used RPs) are very attractive options for my kids. Would LOVE to see a series on the best adapted EF glass for Canon RF mounts. If you can't take phenomenal images with all today's offerings, it's not the camera that's the problem ... that coming from someone who made a living off the 1st EOS body and a darkroom :D>.
For landscapes, especially the scene you shot, you could have put them into "high resolution mode". The Lumix also can suppress movement. On the GH6, you can shoot high res handheld. For video, dynamic range is especially important, but only the Lumix offers proper tools to getting the exposure correct- Lumix all the way!
Its crazy to me that other brands have no functions like waveforms.I use Lumix and I would be totally lost without the waveforms, such nice tool to nail exposure!
When you have a proper LCD/EVF you don't need that at all, I never use them on my C70 and my image is always spot on. All those things are derived from the times when LCDs and EVFs were crap and somehow many cameras still have them. Having the ability to just look at the LCD/EVF and set a proper exposure and white balance is the key for efficient workflow, and Sony people had never heard about that obviously :) :)
We all know Canon R6 MII is an excelent FF camera, the problem with canon mirrorless cameras is the RF market: the bracket is so wide between poor lenses and very expensive lenses and Cannon has banned third party RF manufactures which turns out in committing at their RF optics to get a decent IQ, or the burden of the 100g EF adapter with the old ones (which I hate to carry on with). Thanks for the video, it was great
Thank you so much for watching. I completely agree with you, I think the lens issue should be the biggest consideration for anyone looking to get into RF mount right now.
@@markshirley01 they are not, I think all consumer lenses have both good performance and light weight (some even are like pancakes) but jump to the next level is a way too much. Besides they are thought for Full frame, James Reader demonstrated it in one video.
Awesome review comparison! One of the most detailed, unbiased and comprehensive review! Video quality production is top notch, you mentioned stuff that most reviewers I’ve watched didn’t even mentioned like the AF example, didn’t know about that issue till now. easily one of the best review comparison videos of these products out here! Thanks for the wonderful review video fam! I’m getting the Canon R6 Mark II soon!
Cool! Straight out of camera is cool if you don't have the time to process your images but as wedding photographers or portrait photographers we're all processing our photography so we shouldn't care too much about what colors look like 'straight out of camera' unless you are shooting JPEG only. It's all about how the camera makes you feel, ergonomics, lens choices, price, video specs (if your hybrid), size and weight... For me the Sony system is the most robust with all of these categories, especially on the lens options front.
Amazing review. Only one point, there is a distinct difference between the sigma 24-70 and the panasonic 24-70. The latter would have brought the colours much closer to the canon R6. The only real fault I find in the s5ii is the awful placement of the hdmi, the little wheel on the top right corner, the lack of touch subject tracking and the crop on 60p They were really close. Hopefully cameras in the future will all adopt the S1H/GH6 screen.
Thank you love your comparisons and observations. I shoot primary with an R6 and a RF 24-70mm. I have invested in the Canon Rf mount. It’s $$ expensive. I was a tough call as I am still recovering from business loss during the pandemic. This video confirms I made a good choice. However all brands are pretty good these days
Hey James amazing video, what camera did you used to shoot this 3:19 section on? and what log did you shoot in? The framing, the colors and the dynamic range is just 👌
@@JamesReader Nice thank you so much for the awnser! I definitely agree with you that the landscape photography on the sony is the best. But the colors on the video in that scene especially in the end of the scene is gold. So I don't know why the Lumix looks so cold in photos, but then in video can capture the nearly the same colors and dynamic range as the sony🤷. Did you shoot in Vlog or?
@@goodvibes8036 the Lumix video image quality is very hard to beat right now. It was indeed shot in VLOG which is my favourite log profile from any camera brand alongside CLOG 2
thanks for your review and those sample RAWs. I've been looking for a new Hybrid system and have been leaning toward the Sonys as I love all the lens options with that system. Then the S5ii came out and made the choice even more confusing. (as I'm a fan of the Sigma contemporary lenses, which both systems use) But after playing around with the Raw files in Lightroom, I can't not unsee how good the canon colours are, especially skin tones. Even when trying to match all three, the Sony image just looks like the model is ill, (very pale) Lumix does skin tones a little better, but seems to have more Cyan, but when trying to fix that, the face becomes too yellow. Canon just looks right, even without any correction. A shame, as it's the system that doesn't allow for the new Sigma glass.
I’m surprised that most reviews don’t mention that the Canon R6 II only shoots video in IPB instead of ALL-I. The footage would be of lower quality and would fall apart when you try to colour grade it. Sony and Panasonic have both options.
You missed the fact that the Lumix S5-II has an almost 6k video resolution. It's literally double 4k in megapixels. Yes, comparing 4k and 6k at a 200% crop easily shows that Lumix captures much more detail for post work. The cooling fan is another huge advantage Lumix.
I had the Sony a7r IV..all the primes..but the images it produced..it felt flat, cartoonish in some ways...technical and clinical in a way. Sold it with all the lenses..and bought the Canon R5 with the Rf 24-70 and it felt like home right away. Great colors and the picture felt more real and "alive" in a way. Looking forward to the R5 2 and will buy that as well. Great comparison James, interesting to watch. :)
Yes I have the same problem with a couple of the latest Sony (over $2500 dollars models), the problem I see in particular is the lack of facial details on people's faces (the nose, cheeks, forehead, bold heads), I even drop exposure to -1 or two stops (at the expense of other areas looking under-exposed) the Sony's still give less detail on human faces as if it is over exposed. "Shallow" skin representation (?) Even the old Gh5 did much better at that.
@@photogenic2010 My issue was the skin colors..and colors overall landscape wise. I might look into the A7r V in the future but right now I am happy with my R5. :)
Sorry James, but this is not a representative test for Lumix, you use a Sigma lens and not a Lumix lens. Lumix is known for his color and detail in combination Body and Lens.
thanks for the files that you are shared.. it's very useful.. my only complain with r6ii is the dynamic range in video..but I think at the end I can live with that.. maybe Canon will make an update with clog2 :) I'm dreaming
Is switching from photo to video very fiddly with the Panasonic, I ask because my work often involves switching back and forth. ⭐ Thanks really good comparison ⭐
It’s not too bad on the Panasonic at all, I just switch between Manual mode to Custom mode 1 which i have set to my video settings. So just two clicks of the mode dial. Not quite as refined as the Sony or Canon but still pretty quick.
Probably going to get crucified for this but I just traded my A7IV for an r6ii. But hear me out. My number one reason for making this switch was sensor readout speed. The A7IV is abysmal at 27ms. The r6ii has a readout speed of 14ms! That makes a massive difference when shooting sports or other high speed stuff. For video, good god man, i shot a video in downtown Cleveland recently, and any small sudden movements produced a tilting wobbly mess on the A7IV. That video is what made me decide to switch. That and I missed canon color science, and the 4k60 crop on the Sony was a blah decision, why, Sony? If the A7IV had a 24mp sensor, it would have stayed with me because that readout speed would have been much faster. But now I’ll likely spend at least a year or two with the r6mii and see what I can make with it. I almost got the S5II but again, the sensor readout speed on that is 22ms. That’s better than the Sony, but still nowhere near the r6ii. That reason may not be a big deal to some, but it’s a real big deal to me. I don’t want warped images or video.
Sounds like a very sensible decision to base a switch on. I didn’t cover read out speed in this video but certainly a very important spec to many professionals that is often overlooked! I really think you’ll enjoy the R6 II.
@@JamesReader I think I will too! But I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have apprehension about making the switch. The A7IV produces some seriously sharp images and video. Seems like the r6ii starts to lose a bit of sharpness at high isos.
Hey man, thanks for the vid. I'm about to pull the trigger and buy the lumix s5 ii. I'm looking at the sigma 24-70 that you use here. It looks like a great lens, but what is the balance like with the s5ii weight wise? Does it feel a bit front heavy? Cheers mate
@@JamesReader, that's exactly what I wanted to hear! It looks awesome but was worried with the size. Its hard to find anywhere to go and see the lenses in person these days so thanks for getting back to me on that. Keep up the good work James. Cheers mate 😎.
There is something awesome about Canon colors. This aspect is intangible and unquantifiable unlike other parameters. People look so real and natural in Canon images. In some pictures, I feel as if I am actually looking at that person. It feels like an image from my memory, not a picture that a camera created for me. that's literally 'capturing the moment' for me. I don't get the same feeling when I see pictures from Sony. I don't like Sony skin tones. It's all technically perfect on paper and in tests but the image just doesn't feel real or organic, it's very difficult to find the right words. I can almost immediately recognize a Sony picture. Especially sky looks so off and weird. I never saw sky with that weird blue shade till now. I like Sony for shooting scenes that don't involve people I personally know. I use Sony for landscapes, architecture, and monuments. I hate the sky color sometimes but I am ok with that compromise for now. For people I know and love, I prefer Canon hands-down. I was even ok with losing some autofocus and dynamic range for those colors. That's why I didn't switch to Sony for photographing people despite all the hype. But now thankfully, there's R6 ii 🙂
Canon are not always perfect in colour reproduction But they're pychologically pleasing Additive too They add some life too colours Now Canons have better DR too (for photos >14EV)
I just wish canon would open the RF mount to 3rd party lenses. My dream kit would be the R6II with the tamron 20-40mm 2.8. I am considering buying a sony for the tamron lens, but I don't like the skin colors and find the sony cameras in general uninspiring.
Excellent review, must have taken a lot of time and effort. Glad you weren't at the "Free Japan trip for two" event that makes every review by the RU-vidrs who went worthless IMO.
Thank you Joseph! Couldn’t find anywhere to rent it in the UK unfortunately. I asked LUMIX if they would want to provide the lens for the video but didn’t hear back. Would of been great if I could of got my hands on it
Apparently this front focus issue is a very big deal and it could be due to faulty hardware, software or a combination of the two. Apparently asking Sony warranty center to "fix" it could correct the issue. Below is the document highlighting this issue. It is a very widespread issue than you know. docs.google.com/document/d/13DMNReo5zCSV1FjyIw7n8shEstmW0z2sqv-TVhk7We8/edit?fbclid=IwAR2kqETSLJm85KH_XhJPHD-6QpzKsAEaEUlM2mBVw7d6qe9PBPesrDkbl2g
I’m looking at buying my first full frame camera. My only camera I’ve had the past 5 years is my iPhone 10. I’ve watched tons of RU-vid videos/reviews and the more I watch the more confused I am. So I’m torn between Sony A7 siii or iv, Lumix S5ii, or Canon R something. Of course, I want to be able to take awesome videos, photos, and make vlogs. Given my total lack of experience, a lot of what I hear is hard to translate into what’s important and what I’ll be missing without even knowing I’m missing it. Can someone please simplify all of this for me?
If you want to shoot excellent photos and videos, I wouldn’t go with the a7siii, the a7siii is mainly a video focused camera. It’s an amazing camera, but if your needs are photo and video go with a hybrid camera
LUMIX recommends a programme called Silky Pix to convert the RAW files into uncompressed TIFFs. It allows you to open them in light room with the correct colour profile etc
@@JamesReader Thanks for the response. I think it would be a better comparison when files are directly processed within lightroom when support is out then.
I'm all about Lumix. Other then the AF history, they try to put as much features into their cameras as they can without put a 'Cannon/Sony tax' on it. In the end, the tool you have and are comfortable is the best. More about where your lens are at. They all do the job.
I have owned Nikon and Canon DSLR's over the years..and then a few years ago made the jump to Lumix. The S1 is still the best camera I have ever owned. Love it to death. It's a master of everything.
@@TrollMeister_ My first camera was a Cannon. Went with the marketing hype at the time. After using it for a year I learnt that Cannon is like iphone, they don't make the best things, they market the best things. They love new inexperienced youtubers promoting their products because they know they will invest in the glass that will keep them with their bodies. I will never buy Canon ever again.
I prefer to listen to your comparison videos than any other RU-vidr. You are very unbiased and give it to you as it is. It always seems that Sony is flawless and there are no downsides to it when we know that all of them have their flaws. It comes down to what you prefer and what flaws you can live with.
Great video! Thanks for taking the time to make this I imagine it was a lot of work! Have downloaded the files for some pixel peeping but am happy in the Canon ecosystem and was good to see the strengths and weaknesses of these 3
Have used A7IV & R6ii. Can’t go wrong with either. Went with R6ii for AF & build. Canon feels like a curvy smooth brick in the hand. I know RF lenses are pricey but they’re really good.
For the landscape comparison I think is not apples to apples, as the Lumix wasn't shot in the exact same light conditions as you can see in the far. This should have been made with the 3 cameras taking the picture at the same time. For the rest of the test comparison, it's a pretty good one you made. Very informative, thanks for it!
Thank you for your more than interesting videos. And this is very generous to provide the RAW files and it's a key difference with other reviews : I really appreciate to be able to make my own assessment of what very cares for me.
The landscape was a good opportunity to just test the high-resolution sensor shift from the Lumix S5 II and compare the resolution bump, how much difference there is. For some reason the S5 II has extra red/magenta not just compared to the Sony and Canon but also to previous iterations from Panasonic. The Sony always look more dead, for skin-tones the Canon looked better.
for videos there is only one way to go. the lumix. did you know, this camera also have some special features for astrophotography? and many other features. 😁
I think the S5 is kicking butt and is one of the best cameras for 2023. Unfortunately I'm poor and already vested in Canon from lenses, batteries to grips, so switching any time soon is out of the question. Awesome video, thanks for taking the time to put this together 💯
What really stood out to me, was how dull the Lumix looked in the nature pictures. It did lose many vibrant colors which the Canon and Sony did capture. For video however, the Lumix colors are very good, I think they are the most filmic out-of-the-box. Also, I really liked the contrasty look of the Canon for a commercial look. They look straight from a fashion ad or something.
If you take a look at the 3 nature pictures, the sun is totally covered in the Lumix one, that's why there's no contrast at all, and colors are gone. Sun is gone, while in the Canon and Sony is still pretty there, is not a good comparison in that matter.
To be fair, he was using native lenses for Sony & Canon and a 3rd party lens for the Lumix. That's not the best way to compare the brands imo. He still did an amazing job with the video though, and ya gotta use what you have, I understand.
Great ! Your ISO test just convinced me to buy one or two Panasonic S5ii !!! as it has the cleanest image even at iso 25600 !.. (and we all face low light whenerve asked to take a photo or Video). At 5:42 the Sigma lens on the Panasonic is 3 times as sharp as the Canon RF, and Sony's GM lens. Wow. This is a surprise. ! Looking at the background ceiling when I freeze your ISO test at 5:42 It is so obvious how "'dirty" the ceiling beams look on both the R6/2, and the A7/4 (which I nearly bought because of it's 33 Mpixels. Panasonic lives again, and boy... what a come back ! . Even at iso 25600 the S5ii blond hair is sharp! and the model's face is nicely separated from the background (You have to freeze frame to see it more easily) . On the Sony and Canon the noise is like a 'separate noise layer' applied at the whole screen, blending her face with the background .. 'Like soup' 🙂 Also, The noise particles at very high ISO are SO FINE on the Lumix that No one can see it on Social media/ phone. it would look ""Normal" and even on big 65 inch TV I see this fine noise looking like a mild, deliberate effect. adding to the "'Texture" Thanks for this practical test. Canon lens is good at micro-contrast but the sensor fails on Dynamic range as you mentioned, and Canon Lenses are overpriced since the Sigma is sharper ! Same with Sony Lenses, I seen others also complain about Sony's 'Chromatic Aberration' with purpule and blue colors on every fine branch and complex patterns (as you show on them branches), Plus The Sony has the worst Jello effect when panning both on video or stills work. They each have some good points, but adding all the points the Panasonic wins by about 30% I see you noticed R6/2's lower dynamic range against the Panasonic's superior D/R I will buy the S5ii now (Photo), also buy the -X- version when it comes out in 3 months (Video) work Such useful info here I know you went to a lot of trouble Not just to talk, but to do an almost scientific demonstration.. Thanks ** So How is the Auto-Focus on the S5ii with the Sigma? is there any disadvantage in Sigma focus accuracy or Panasonic focus-speed? because the Sony A7/4 seems to front-focus on the nose, not the eye.
Thank you for the great comment! You’re gonna love the Panasonics. I’ve now had a chance to try a few Sigma and LUMIX L mount primes and have generally found them to be both excellent for video. In photo it feels like the LUMIX lenses are a little more confident at grabbing eyes.
I hope Canon gets the whole 3rd party lens situation fixed. Everyone has their own preference but that issue alone is changing the perspective of a lot of photographers/videographers. I will always have a bias towards Canon but the Sony and Lumix are amazing....
Too bad we can't kludge all the best features of each into a super camera! This is a thoughtful review, and I generally agree with your assessments. Lumix for video, Canon or Sony for stills. With a Sigma MC-21 adapter, though, you can mount Canon EF glass on the Lumix. So if you are a Canon user with legacy lenses... There's little risk in switching to Lumix. Of course, the L-Mount alliance is growing steadily, with Leica, Sigma, Panasonic, Ernst Leitz Wetzlar, DJI, Astrodesign, and Samyang.all producing lenses that will work on the Lumix. Some of those lenses are unobtainable (very expensive) by many of us, but at least we have choices, as we do with Sony. Canon, WHY do we not have third party alternatives for the R-mount? You're just being greedy! Yet there is a lot to like with all of these. I'm intrigued by the downloadable LUTs feature in the Lumix, which works for stills and video, allowing users to match cameras across brands.
I had the Sony a7III and wanted to upgrade to the a7IV when it was launched. At the camera shop, I handled the new a7IV, took a few shots and didn't feel excited about it. The shop owner recommended me to try out the Canon R5 and RF 24-70L. I was blown away by the images produced by the Canon combo, and bought them instead of the a7IV, I agree with James' observation that images straight out of the Sony camera, in particular, human skin tone are not so flattering and I often required more time to correct them. Thanks for the great review of these 3 fantastic cameras.
The idea that a particular brand has some "magical" color science which fixes everything is a complete myth. Every damn camera for decades can shoot raw and thus anything can be made to look like anything. Everyone should simply buy what they like or use what they've got because the camera you use means very little.
@@Yupthereitism On the contrary, I should thank the camera shop sale person for the good recommendation. I have never been happier and I am still enjoying my Canon R5 and lenses, and gradually discovering new things. My Canon R5 is getting better and better with each firmware update and the upcoming update is rumored to be huge.
@@zenscape i was a former r5 owner but couldnt fall in love with the system. I felt the lenses were overpriced and inferior to every sony lens I tested. The final straw was when I tried a sony 70-200 f2.8 ii on the sony a7rv. the sony lens was lighter, internal zooming, and more accurate at focusing. The sony images were sharper and easier to edit. I just cant figure paying top dollar for canon lenses when sony is making objectively better stuff for much better prices. The tamron 35-150 is a GAME CHANGER. I use that lens exclusively for events now and it is amazing. Canon has nothing of the sort, and even if they did create a similar lens it would cost 3k. Anyway, im still trying to sell a few canon lenses and held onto my eos r because I enjoy using it as a travel camera, but professionally I dont think there is any reason to go with canon.
I also wanted to thank you for this great comparison and especially for providing us with the photos and footage to play around with! Probably gonna buy the S5II.
i guess the panasonic lumix here got disadvantage. he is using sigma a non native lens and use a lens from the orher company. i think if he use lumix s serience lens lumix will get a massive points here
I have EF 85 f/1.4 L and with adapter it's nearly twice as big and heavy as Sigma 85 f/1.4 DG DN for Sony. Works well but it's simply not very convenient. This applies to many adapted lenses.
This... I had been looking at the R6 and A7IV last summer and kept reading here and there about the eye AF issue with the Sony... but almost NOBODY would talk about it. I think either Mitch Lalley or Alex Barerra mentioned it but nobody else. I assumed maybe it was fixed with a later update but guess not. I read a bit about it here and there but mostly in Sony forums you would get lambasted as a "noob" if you mentioned it as I found the people in those forums often will bury their head in the sand rather than want to criticize their beloved Sony camera. Same thing used to happen with overheating issues with the A7III and A7RIII.
The A7IV eye AF issue is one of the reasons I passed on it and got the R6 II. Mitch Lally was the only other RU-vidr to mention this so I'm glad you found it too. Issues like this seem to get buried by Sony sponsored RU-vidrs and those that do quick reviews or only focus on video. There are mentions of this issue in some photo/Sony forums but most people get attacked and get called "noobs" if they bring this up. The same thing used to happen when people brought up overheating issues on the Sony mirrorless cams like the A7III and A7RIII/IV. Also, as great as the IBIS is on the S5 II, it also suffers from corner wobbles/jello at ultrawide angles. I believe it was Casey at Camera Conspiracies that showed this along with one other person. It's not quite as bas as the Canon, but enough to ruin shots for sure.
I definitely didn’t expect to encounter this kind of issue with the Sony. If this is a common issue I certainly wouldn’t be happy, I’m totally open to it being user error such as a wrong setting but I had no issues with the Canon/LUMIX. I do remember Mitch Lally mentioning some eye AF issues with accuracy. You’re right regarding the S5 II, unfortunately 24mm was as wide as I had access to so I couldn’t test how bad the wobble is at those super wide angles, but have seen from a few videos it seems to be an issue although already improved a little through firmware (somehow)
@77dris bro don’t you even act like you had any plans of choosing any other brand than Canon. It didn’t matter what the cameras were you were picking canon 😂😂😂
@@RockyMaiviaMiami Ong, this guy is literally on every photography/videography related video preaching about his R6II and how the Sonys suck. I've never seen such bizarre, obsessive behaviour, like bro you love your Canon good for you lol.
How did you grade the pictures? I'm a Lumix user and I find the colors vastly improve when changing out the adobe profiles for the native Lumix ones in Lightroom (I mostly go for cinelike v and vivid). I'm always amazed how much better they look when doing that. This might be applicable to the Canon and Sony as well.
These were all started in “Natural” colour profile, it was always my favourite on the S1. I’ll give some of the other profiles a try, it’s a little awkward at the moment because you still can’t open the S5 II RAWs in light room.
@@JamesReader Ahh I was talking about developing Raw pictures in Lightroom. I thought that was possible with the S5ii files by now. Straight out of camera "Natural" is really nice indeed.
I'm always impressed by your reviews but this one was on another level. I think your channel has the potential to become one of the best photography channels on RU-vid. The images are smooth and pleasant. The music and voice acting are great. Most importantly, you maintain the best possible balance between technicalities and real-world experience in your videos WELL DONE
I wonder if the magenta look in Lumix is because a weak infrared filter, like happens in some Fuji cameras. It would be great to try an IR filter on the lens
I use my cameras more for video, and went with Panasonic S5II. Very happy with it, looking forward to adding a good value 35mm prime to the kit lens. The build quality is very reassuring. Any thoughts on the Panasonic 35mm f/1.8 compared to the Sigma f/1.4, for video? Leaning toward the lighter / smaller / cheaper Panasonic f/1.8, as have been very happy with my Panasonic MFT 50mm f/1.8. I'm based in Valencia, Spain, so felt the overheating would be a real problem in Summer with Canon or Sony A7IV. And I did want for it photography too, so EVF-less FX-30 was not for me. Other considerations were price/value. Canon is pricey in Europe and Panasonic had good Summer offers, making it 800 euros cheaper! Kit lens deal was a bargain for starters, and lenses, like Panasonics own primes and the Sigmas are better value propositions. But also IBIS is decisive for me, full HDMI is essential, 6k leaves me room to grow, am more comfortable with Panasonic ergonomics, familiar menus, great video tools. Already was on GH5, which am keeping as secondary camera. Even if I had $1000 more, I wouldn't have chosen Canon. I'd have sold the GH5 and MFT lenses, and budgeted for a second S5II with kit lens. With video, that price difference multiples when you will tend to buy more than one camera. So, I expect Panasonic will sell many S5IIs with budget conscious videographers.
This video is impeccable. Thanks to this video I made my final decision after racking my brain for an entire month. I am a beauty influencer on YT and there are certain features that you can’t compromise with when it comes to the right camera. It was between the Canon R6 ii and the Sony for me. Even tho the Sony has more pixels, the 4k 60 crop is a huge deal for me and 24 pixels is just as good as 33 imho.i just love more about the Canon r6 ii vs the Sony. It was a very hard decision tho. I just received my Canon R6 ii and I am blown away so far. Thank you so much for this informative video. Your hard work is definitely appreciated. ❤
Came to compare for the Lumix s5 II, fell in love with the Canon R6 II (especially the colors) thanks to this video, got myself the Canon R8 since it‘s the same camera with some stuff missing which doesn’t bother me and saves me 1k$ here. Will arrive in a few days and I‘m so excited! Replaces my Sony a6400 Main Camera.
You could make this test using the new sigma art lenses dg dn against canon. The canon lenses are so big. The sonys iso performace are terrible, even in the high end cameras, like A7R V. The best camera lenses are canon but big, i dont know, sometimes i think i will go so S5, because of the sigma lenses, they are smaller overall.
@@JamesReader i have a eos rp and rf lenses, rf 85mm 1.2 and 50mm 1.2, for me today would be easier go to eos r6 mk2, but i will go to panasonic, its really annoying big stuff, The body and lenses from canon are terrible big. I dont know why. Do you think for photography the plus of 800 for S5ii is a worth it against the old S5?
sony color science is with the Older models, such as 1,2,3 generation, I think from the 4th gen onwards Sony has improved a lot. after all Sony can't kill its customers in the first place, many other brands use Sony CMOS.
There is a reason Canon leads the market for the last 35 years. Even when down with features Canon cameras were always the best at what's the most important, image, ergonomics and lenses. R6 Marki II adds full set of features and have never been more complete for photo and video, and I can remember the changes in the industry way back to the 80s. Panasonic and Sony have exactly the same problems for decades, not that great colors, digital feel of the image compared to Canon, bad ergonomics and LCD/EVF with Sony, lenses with Panasonic, so I don't expect any change in that regard. And I would just like to add that Sigma lenses being made out of "concrete" is a bad thing. There is a reason newer Canon lenses have more plastic parts, and it's the weight. But that's not toy plastic, I have heavily used 10 year old Canon lenses made out of plastic that still look like new, and in the same time are way better than any Sigma in hands while using them. Also, focus and zoom rings are on another level compared to Sigma sticky fest.
Very good review. However and only a few reviewers speak about it, but the standard profiles on the S5II (Natural, Cine, Portrait) are worse than before. They use over sharpening and noise/chroma noise reduction, one of the worst 4K I ever seen from a Panasonic camera. I made some videos showcasing the issue. V-Log is not impacted but I don't use it in low light.
