Canon RF 24-105mm Good for Portraits? 

Thank you! Since I shot this I’ve added the RF35mm 1.8 and RF85mm 2.0. Really happy with both. I think the 35mm is my favorite walk around prime lens right now. It’s just so versatile. I still use my EF50mm 1.8 with the adapter quite a bit too. Haven’t invested in the RF50mm yet.

Your kit is same as what I am thinking too 85f2/EF 85 1.8. I was going to swap this zoom for Tamron 24-70 F2.8 G2 but it was a brick LOL

It has its limitations. I for sure use my RF35mm f1.8 and RF85mm f2 a lot more, but this lens has its uses.

It depends on what you’re shooting. The RF 35 is less than half the price of the sigma 85. If you’re shooting portraits the 85 will have a more compressed background and be very flattering for your subjects. The 35 can take some really nice portraits as well, but it’s better for full body shots and when you want the background to be featured as well. I like the macro options of the 35 but of course the wider lens will require you to get a lot closer so it depends on the type of macro you might want to do. Honestly both are great focal lengths and eventually you’ll probably want to have both. The 35, 50 and 85 are all great lengths and useful to have for every photographer. If this is the only lens you’ll have I would go with the 35 or 50 because of their versatility. You can always get closer with those lengths, but with the 85 you’re a little restricted with where you can shoot because you have to be so far from your subject. Hope that helps!
