update ** This way was good years ago but today there is a much easier way The app is for Iphone and Android ( Called AutoPylot ) The icon looks like a 3 000 stack on each other with a white background. This app will allow you do the same thing Ben did but right on your phone. Its FAA approved and super easy to use. Basically type in where you want to fly and input some info like duration, radius super easy even gives the authorization code to unlock that area. One thing to note, every time you want to fly in a restricted zone you need to get permission its not like you unlock a zone and it stays unlocked.

I have a Mavic 2 pro. I have done this on this site almost 3 years back on a NFZ but now i think this doesn't work anymore as I'm not seeing unlock option after I select that Laguardia Airport , NY in the map. Can someone plz suggest how do i unlock it now to fly on a NFZ zone

The only areas the drone locks is the red. The rest of the zones should let you fly but "with caution"

Hi there. It could be interesting, I found the custom 1001 firmware for DJI Mavic 3 drones on the github platform... Everybody can find and download it. All restrictions should be removed.

I tried this with my mini4 drone but my rc2 controller has no idea about the approved unlock and also it says "cannot connect". I think I am going to return the drone to DJI.

Haha - i didnt have any certifications.. just play for hobby - try to apply but without any certificates, unable to proceed to fly restricted areas. Good video but not details enough on applications.. what requirements are NOT STATED - end up wasting my time logging into DJI..

DJI have no place restricting where you use the machines. The responsibility for the flight is the pilots and pilots alone. this is UTTER RUBBISH AND IN MANY CASES IMPOSSIBLE DUE TO COVERAGE ISSUES.

But who do you ask for permission? Or do I just lie and say I got permission? Please help!
