I’m only gonna do video so it looks like the SL2 is my machineI finally got my SL2 for video. Gonna get some glass and kit it out. It’s great little gem.
I just bought the SL2 and I'm loving it. I use it for shooting Woodwork DIY videos. The kit lenses doesn't have a great optical zoom, but it's not that bad, and that's something for me to buy next.
Thanks for this video. Ironically I just ordered the T7i earlier this morning. Upgrading from the T5. I want to start adding additional content to my youtube channel. I didn't know the SL2 was comparable, but I still think I made a good choice now because I also use it for photography. Thanks as always!
I bought the SL2 about a month ago, it's my first DSLR and I couldn't be happier with it!! Not only have my videos gotten a lot better but the pictures are awesome as well, it's definitely worth the money!!
THANK GOD A PERSON WHO BRINGS UP VIDEO! I know these are cameras but jeez videos are the thing nowadays. We don't come to RU-vid for pics lol. Im planning on grabbing a dslr for video but was stuck between the t5i t6i and t7i until I saw this vid. The sl2 is similarly priced to the t6i so now I need to see how they stack against each other video wise. I'm planning on making guitar videos so frame rate and tracking are very important for fast fingers
I am definitely getting canon SL2 camera since I want compact light weight camera for camping, hiking, as well as able to shooting videos. It's 200 dollar differences but for what I am using for, those small minor feature on T7i I don't need.
Totally "in love" with the SL2! i´m a Photographer so my Main camera it's the 70D, but i really wish to add the little SL2 to my VIDEO Arsenal for de Channel. UN ABRAZO DESDE MEXICO. !
Heeey!!! Saludos.
Sonja made a Cameo!! WOOHOOO always makes the videos better 😉 so one thing not mentioned is ease of use - as a female, the SL2 fits in my palms WAY easier, but my husband actually gets a bit cramped using the grip. For VLOG portability, nothing really beats the SL2 because those backpacks that fit a camera body and let’s say the Sean Cannell required lenses 50mm, 10-18, 24mm, and two 18-55 (kit lens but it’s an amazing go to) - would NOT fit in a petite backpack that women would prefer and would only fit in something more heavy duty like the rugged thule camera backpacks. The side SD card port on the T7i is GREAT but it’s not necessarily worth sacrificing the small size. If we only filmed in one location and budget was the biggest concern, the T7i is perfect for beginners-intermediate users like me. The SL2 has been perfect because we travel a lot. The camera backpacks made for women can fit the SL2 with 18-55 attached and all my other lenses PLUS the videomicpro+ all in the camera portion, so that I can also pack an Osmo+ or Karmagrip along with my 13” mackbookpro - as always, LOVED the video - and so great to see Think Media blowing it up ❤️
Actually, I️ recommend you to check out these camera bags, they are a little pricey but, personally, I️ think they’re worth it. They’re called Gatta Bags and this is their website gattabag.com hope you like them!
Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the main difference in video between these 2 cameras is in camera stabilization. The SL2 does not have in camera stabilization and the T7i does. Meaning, there is a possibility for an even smoother vlogging/video experience.
I may be wrong....but it has digital Image Stabilization...according to more than one video on RU-vid. This video shows the menu system with Digital IS as an option. I am not saying it does the BEST job in the world, but it is there. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4x3iUAeGXs0.html
I have taken so much inspiration from your channel and professionalism. I am officially launching my channel in January 2018 and your videos have helped me so much. God Bless from South Africa
Great comparison video Sean. I was going back and forth between the two cameras and went with the SL2. With the 200 dollar price difference , I was able to get a lens better than the kit lens.
I purchased the SL2 based on one of your video's but now I want the T7i because I'm shooting pictures more than video and those 45 focus points sound sooooooooooo good!
Lorrancia Lusiba I love it! I only use video for the most part. So the 60fps at 1080 was what I was looking for! Also love the flip out screen and mic option. Depends what you’re using it for obviously but I love it for vlogging and videography stuff.
Just bought the SL2! Your first video on it was what led me to the decision to purchase that camera. I use Nikon's normally but want to do some vlogging and the Dual Pixel AF was what sold me! Thanks Sean!
So I was on the fence about getting a Canon camera for filming online training videos and events. I purchased an 80d from Amazon, the International version with no warranty - great deal btw, can save you a few hundred bucks. The 80d was a great camera because I was coming from a t3i, felt good and no issues with the focus. But I ended up returning it and bought a Panasonic g85 because of 4k video and even crispy 1080p. The g85 I'm having a lot of fun with and cost much less than the 80d. Again I'm using it for mostly video and casual photography. It feels very cutting edge and the dual OIS is great with prevention camera shake.
Hi, new subscriber. This was the 3rd video of yours I've watched. To answer your question about which camera videos better, I'd say the T7i (slightly, but noticeable unless it's the lighting). As far as which one I would buy, it would also be the T7i. The determining factor for me, based on your info is that the T7i is better for photographs over the SL2. I would buy a new camera that performed both functions well. My question, and perhaps it stems from ignorance is: If all your buying a camera for is recording (no photos), why wouldn't you just buy a camcorder as opposed to a camera?
I asked this question if the Tech Gear guy on YT and he said that the video footage quality on DSLRs is better than camcorders. It may be the lens choices etc., Not sure.
Just bought the sl2, and thanks to you whom I think, you're the best reviewer ever. Which is why I thank you because thanks to this channel I have the right Equipment for my videos. now it will be just a matter of time and continues effort to make it grow and have a successful channel. Right Now I'm at 41 subscribers but eventually, that number will be just part of my past, and I can say right now those are the best 41 I ever had. I just expect everyone could learn at least a bit from my art. Thanks
I bought the SL2 after weeks of reviewing various cameras... and it seems like the best fit for me. Small form factor, flip out screen, mic input... how can you go wrong with it?
Just a heads up, but the autofocus sensor isn't being used during video. That requires the mirror to reflect light onto the AF module. When that is flipped up and out of the way during video operation, all auto focus is being controlled by the on sensor Dual-Pixel phase detect system.
Thanks for this video. I bought the 200D (SL2) a few weeks ago to start vlogging and so far no complaints. I'm new to the world of vlogging and think I made a good choice. Budget was definitely a major factor when selecting a camera. I watched all of your Rebel SL2 videos about 10 times each before purchasing! Thanks for the great content!
Very happy with the Canon SL2. I'm mostly shooting for video content. I made the right choice. Only complaint I have so far is that I have to remove the tripod mounting plate on the bottom to swap out the battery. Or twist to the mount to the side...small inconvenience. I also mounted a microphone on top of the camera and the connecting cord can be in the way at times of the LCD flip screen when your doing selfie videos. Minor things....but something for Canon to think about going forward. Great Videos...keep them coming!
I just bought my 1st DSLR so I got my self SL2 last week and LOVE IT :) originally I wanted 80D but it’s huge and SL2 has begginers mode so good way to learn if you new to DSLR. Amazing quality :)
I was set on buying the SL2, it had all the features I wanted. But when I first picked one up at the store I found something I didn't like, it was the way I hold and grip the camera. It's tighter from the body on grip side and where lens and camera are connected causing me to rub my knuckle on the lens. So instead I went with the T7i. Just bought it yesterday and have been playing around with it and watching videos on the T7i. Thanks for the great videos.
You and your videos are amazing! I have been a fan of your great, interesting, thorough yet to the point content for a long time now! Will keep on supporting you! THANK YOU!!!!
I owned the SL1 and now the SL2 and the SL2 is so much better in every way.. I now am shooting some of my rc videos with it and it works great, I think the video works the same on the SL2 and T7i you can see the full lcd screen in face detect mode can be covered with focus points.
Hi Sean, Greetings from the Philippines. I will buy my first camera. I will be doing mostly videos with slomo and a little bit of stills. These are my choices. I hope you give your thoughs or even suggest other camera not in the list: Sony A6300: Good slowmo, but it overheats Canon 200D / SL2: because its beginner friendly, lenses for future upgrade... and cheap Canon 800D / T7i: 2nd Canon choice Olympus E-M5ii: 5-Axis IBIS Lumix G85: 5-Axis IBIS Fujifilm X-T20: Because its a Fuji :) I am leaning towards the Olympus M5ii because it has everything I am looking for but the micro 4/3 sensor is making me hold back. I fear this might be terrible in low-light. I might be shooting dimly lit scenes and areas specially during music concerts. I will also be doing product photography for my wife. HELP PLEASE! Thanks for the Time! RAKK
You did an awesome job on this video! As I have shared before,I love the Canon sl2. I want folks here to know my experience in low light. I did a shoot for my daughter for her channel for Halloween . I used my Canon 80d and the sl2 to do a 2 camera video. The sl2 for wide shots and the 80d for close up shots. Lighting was Christmas lights and a small side light. It was serious low light for effect. Both these cameras did awesome! It got a great review from someone who is in the music business and makes lots of videos. The only hamper was that the sl2 has a smaller battery so I had to put a new battery in it, but no big deal as I keep plenty on hand. Keep up the good work Sean. It is very much appreciated. Many Blessings!
Basically, SL2: if you’re just going to vlog, do reviews or take photos for Instagram Rebel T7i: if you’re a photo nerd and notice details most don’t care about or love taking photos at sporting events.
Thanks for the review. I just bought the T7i because I do photo and video. Took me a couple of weeks going back and forth as to which one to grab. I decided on the T7i because of the location of the as card slot.
This was great and so helpful. SL2 is my dream camera I want to get and this video helped me feel more secure about it. I think it’s a perfect starter camera
First I want to say thank you. Your video reviews have helped me come to make a decision on the first really nice camera I have ever owned. I have subscribed to your channel and your views on other camera equipment has helped me a-lot in my decision making process on what gear to buy. I will admit I did not rely just on your material as I did watch other reviews on You Tube for the Cannon T71. I should get my new Camera here soon. This is my Christmas gift to my-self this year. I have a-lot to learn and look forward to the adventure with the Canon T7i. In closing, I saw a video on you tube for the new Canon Rebel T8i ...It's roumered to be coming out in Q2 of 2019. I look forward to seeing your video review at that time. Keep Crushing it....
You are right... there is not much of a difference and I can see that they are both very good. For the subtle differences I think it's definitely worth it to get the T7i. I have actually been thinking about purchasing one of these two for about aa month now; I am glad that I came across this video! Thanks. Kim. 💋
Awesome! Thanks so much for making this video Sean. This definitely helps answer my question from the last video...especially with the side-by-side comparisons. Keep up the great work my friend… In my opinion you absolutely dominate the gear space with your channel. I never miss a video!! I will use your affiliate links tonight when I order. Thanks again!!
I was really impressed with the way both cameras tracked your wife. The focus was really awesome. I'm a photographer looking to put more focus on videography this year. it will be a learning curb using a Canon because I've used Nikon since childhood. However, both brands are great for different reasons. I've been binge watching your videos, because I'm getting prepared to buy a Canon DSLR strictly for video. Thanks for your concise videos. You are one of the best on tech reviews.
Based on your test videos I think the T7i has a lower crop factor compared to that of SL2. And in the first test video the T7i looked slightly brighter than SL2. For me SL2 is awesome but T7i is a camera that begginers can grow their skills with (lending your quote).
I bought the SL2 based on your videos for my YT movie review channel and shot my first video with the camera for my Justice League review. The results were very satisfying. This was a great review and side by side. I watched the whole thing and don't think it'll ever be necessary for me to upgrade to the t7i unless I get into photography. Oh, and it was great seeing your wife help you out as the video subject for the comparison.
im seeing all these comments all about the SL2 so that was sort of helpful. I BELIEVE I WILL GET THE SL2. Thanks to think media I also just found a review on the SL2. Now I know which camera I want, and I was not comparing the T7i with the SL2 but the T6I with the SL2....but now I'd say I'm leaning towards SL2. THANKS!
you helped me make a decision.. thank you.. I was looking for another Camera, my Nikon is 7 years old a little to put of date for video.. After seeing one of your other videos on the SL2 I was looking to see the main difference between the SL2 and T71 and this video nailed it.. I do like to shoot stills for fun, but we are looking for a good camera to do video with as well. and for our uses I think you have talked me into the T7i. Your explanation and information was very useful, thank you.
Thanks i am gonna buy the Sl2 and i really like that you want to help people that want to begin with photo or video but don't know which camera to choose.👌
I am new in this DSLR camera business. So I don´t now what to buy. I go for safe and buy the Canon SL2 mainly for videography. I am very happy with it. Thank to you video I pick the right one. You make me proud, because I pay good notice what you're saying. So for me is this video no surprise to me. Further I buy also occassion almost new lens Canon EF-S 24 mm f2.8 STM for €100 and Rode video micro microphone. Awesome combination. O my kit lens is EF 50 mm / f1.8. Thanks for ALL you video's. Cheers for Holland
Thank you for posting a comparison between the two cameras above. I want to get into photography and have always been interested in filming/documenting everyday activities. Naturally I would like a quality camera where I can get a solid balance between photos and video. I found video to be better on the SL2-watching the test videos you did on my 4k laptop, showed the SL2 to be a much smoother experience, especially while you were walking. Pictures were very close in quality, but the T7i was slightly better. Perhaps I'll buy a SL2 and work my way to a T7i or something more powerful later on. It took me a while to come up with a definitive choice, so Thank you for helping me get to this point. :)
Hey I'm early :3 I was considering the SL2 based on what you recommended in past videos, so now that I see this it is really helpful since both of these are in the price range that I'm into and also have good amount of features that I would actually use with a great body size. Thank you Sean and the team for making such an informative video as always :3
I always appreciate your videos so much. My question that you never really address is the "when" of investing in things like this. I'd really like to see a video on when is the right time to invest in a new camera/lighting/audio/etc. When you're starting out, when you get to a certain number of subscribers/views/etc., when you're thinking of doing it as more than a hobby? What? I'd like to invest in some better equipment, but is it going to be worth it in the long run if I'm still only getting a few thousand views??
Sean, thanks so much for the helpful info - and yes it is very helpful indeed. After watching one of your other cam reviews (which camera for youtube or so) I did, thanks to your review, opt for the Conon SL2 (200D) - its just arrived in the post, so Ill do my first vid of unpacking and then on to some more hopefully useful vids. Thanks again, really appreciate it, keep it up.
Another great video Sean, I've just put a positive comment on your G7X mkII video, so won't repeat myself, but I have also been looking out for a video comparing these two cameras. Excellent review, making all the key points clear and understandable. Fantastic and easy to follow comparison, thank you for your hard work :)
I've waited for this video for so long just until Black Friday. Based on all kind of reviews I bought the T7I because of the same reasons you mentioned: it's better for photography :)
This video review was so good I had to come back and reference it again. After all this time I believe I am going to get a used Canon EOS SL2. I’ve just been waiting for a decent used one to show up. I bought my wife a used SL1 for $150.00 and we love it. I have a Sony RX-100 first generation that I bought used for $250.00. It just isn’t enough because it has no mic input and you can’t change the lens. No flip screen or touch screen either. The auto focus isn’t as good and it doesn’t have WiFi NFS or Bluetooth. So in short it won’t do what I need it to do.
