The CH-148 Cyclone was a major disaster for The Canadian Military they were not only several years late but had serious avionics issues which made them late also Cost overruns that were met by Sikorsky as they had adapated The S-92 a lot say Canada should have purchased the MH-60R but this Helicopter was purchased so a Former Prime Minister wouldnt lose face as he had cancelled the original Canadian Hleicopter Program that called for Two versions of The EH-101 The Petrel which was The ASW Version and The Chimo which was for SAR and Canada had to pay Penalties for cancelling them The Prime Minister who cancelled them had said The Original Helicopters didnt need replacing and Augusta Westland then said if their EH-101 ASW was eventually purchased they wouldnt have to pay much as they would accept the Penalties as part Payment but this Prime Minister wasnt having it so to save him embarrassment The CH-148 Cyclone was ordered instead as they had purchased The EH-101 for SAR which became The CH-149 Cormorant as this Certain Prime Minister had blocked the purchase originally but The Military SAR Community wanted The CH-149 Cormorant

way too heavy for our puny new ships and wasted money on redundant ASW capability which should be on our ships (which are much less likely lost to errors and mechanical failure). the Cyclone is another oversized albatross ,introducing a completely different logistical supply train. should've replaced the Sea kings with similar sized Sea Hawks

Sure, except they're talking about the CH-149 Cormorant rather than the CH-148 Cyclone. Also the Sea Hawk is somewhat smaller than the Sea King dimensionally even though they are about the same weight-wise. I'm not sure which new ships you're talking about, but the Canadian Surface Combatant is based on the British Type 26 which will be designed with a hangar capable of handling the Cormorant and a helipad capable of landing a Chinook.

um first off the CH-149 is used exclusively by the airforce for SAR secondly the new ships were buying the type 26 was designed to fit a merlin which is the same aircraft as this in the hangar and a chinook on the light deck and thirdly by the time a Ship has detected a submarine its already to late as the sub is within torpedo range.
