Éste muy buen clerigo era y mucho le agradaba leer sobre las vidas de los Santos Padres y además muy bien escribia;
pero lo que más le complacía era escribir el nombre de Santa María, hizo un escrito muy hermoso que pintó con tres colores.
El primero era oro, color rico y hermoso
a semejanza de la Virgen noble y muy preciosa;
el otro de azul era, color muy fascinante
semejante al cielo en su máximo esplendor.
Al tercero llaman rosa, porque es color púrpura;
Cada uno de estos colores describían a la Virgen
que es rica, muy santa y que igual nunca hubo en hermosura,
por lo que es la mejor de las mejores.

How Holy Mary took the soul of a friar who painted Her name in three
colors.
"The One who for Her great beauty is called Flower of flowers is much more pleased
when they praise Her name than by other praises."
Concerning this, I shall tell a miracle, as it was told to me, which happened to
a good ordained monk who gladly said the hours of this Virgin and took more
pleasure in this than any other pleasure.
This man was a good priest and zealously read in the lives of the Holy Fathers
and also wrote very well. Whenever he came to the name of Holy Mary, he
wrote it very beautifully with three colors.
The first was gold, a rich and beautiful color like the noble and most precious
Virgin. The next was blue, a marvelous color which resembles the sky in all its
splendor.
The third they call rose, because it is a reddish color.Therefore, each one of
these colors bears great resemblance to the Virgin who is rich, very holy, and who
never had equal in beauty, and is the most excellent of the excellent.
Therefore, the monk carried with him this sacred name of the Holy Virgin
Mary, to whom he was firmly devoted, kissing it often to conquer the enemy
devil who always strives to lead us into error.
Whereby it happened once that he lay gravely ill from a serious malady which
had him in its grip. Although he lay there thus, he was ever mindful of being one
of the most ardent worshippers of the Holy Virgin.
The abbot and the monks all came to see him, and when they saw him in
such bad condition, they assigned a friar to stay with him to keep him company.
After they had been there a while, they went away. However, the Queen of
queens
appeared in dreams to the friar who watched over the sick monk, and he saw
Her approach the bed and say to him: "Do not be afraid, for I shall cause you to
ascend with me to Paradise, where you will see those who have gone before.
For inasmuch as you painted my name in three colors, I shall take you up to
Heaven, where you will see the delights, and you will be enrolled in the Book of
Life among those who do not die nor have sorrow or pain."
Then the Holy Queen took his soul with Her, and the friar immediately
awoke and went quickly to the bed. When he found the monk dead, he had the
bell rung as was decreed by the holy church doctors.
The abbot quickly came with the monks of the community, who numbered
eighty or a hundred, and that monk told them: "Good gentlemen, I shall carefully
recount for you all I saw, if you will hear me."
Then He told what he had seen, as I have already told you, and the abbot im-
mediately had him put it in writing to destroy the works of the accursed enemy who tries to carry us off to where we shall always be in fear.
After they heard of the miracle, they joyfully praised the Holy Virgin Mary,
Lady of Mercy, and if in their carelessness they had erred against Her in any thing,
they tried to keep themselves from sinning.
