A capacitive Proximity Sensor has more advantages over an inductive Proximity sensor. As Capacitive sensors can sense wood, plastic, grease, oil, and metal as well and can replace traditional Level Sensors, Flow Switch with few modification in sensing arrangement @dineshdiwani
It can sense any material having a higher dielectric constant than air. The ability to sense any material like wood, glass, liquid, grease, oil, etc makes it a universal sensor to act like a level switch or flow switch, or position switch. It has an advantage over inductive proximity sensors to sense anything than only metallic objects.
